How does my child get on a New Jersey Magic team?
The Magic have open tryouts in March and every player has a chance to make one of the teams. Your child is encouraged to make all the tryouts so that the coaches can evaluate her fairly.
What is involved in the commitment to a New Jersey Magic team?
It is expected that a player will make all the games and practices. There are always conflicts but absences disrupt the team and are unfair to the player’s coaches and teammates. Communication with the coaches is crucial. If your team is entered in the Regions your child must be able to make that tournament.
What about the time involved?
There are at least two practices during the week from March through June. Teams other than the (9-10) group will play in six tournaments (Saturdays & Sundays).
What are the costs and how are the registration fees used?
The cost for an AAU season is approx.$450.00 depending on the amount of tournaments and unforms chosen. About 80% goes to tournament fees and gym rentals for practice and the remaining goes to insurance, uniforms and equipment.
What other costs are a part of playing for the Magic?
Your registration fees pay for the first six tournaments. If your team travels to non-local tournaments or qualifies for Nationals then there are significant additional costs including travel, room and board, etc.
