    FROM: COACH HOHENBERGER

CHINESE PROVERB: IT IS HARDER TO LEAD A FAMILY, THAN TO RULE A NATION.

Quote from Book Given to Me Today:

Thomas Watson, the old Puritan sage, once said that “Some providences of God, like Hebrew letters, are best understood backwards.” Many times in life we find ourselves not understanding why we were permitted to be in a hard place or in difficult circumstances. But if you wait a few years, and then read your life backwards, you can often see his good purposes.

I believe in our boys, program and parents. Very difficult challenges lay before all of us.

    FRIDAY, 9/19/08
    FROM: COACH HOHENBERGER

We wanted to say thank you again for your continued support of Nimitz Football. We feel blessed to be working with you and the Nimitz Student-Athletes everyday.

On Monday and Tuesday night, our JH teams were in action and each team played well. DeZavala ended up beating Grand Prairie Lee 44-0. Great job guys.

Last night the Freshmen, Sophomore and JV teams were in action. All three teams played hard and continued to fight even though the game wasn't going their way. The students are to be commended on their efforts last night and their, never give up attitude.

Tonight brings a lot of excitement as the Varsity takes on Arlington Lamar for the Homecoming. The game is guaranteed to be filled with excitement as the Nimitz Vikings look to bring home a win and even our record going into district play. We look forward to all of you coming out and supporting your current and former students tonight 7:30 at ISS. Show up early and see the Homecoming festivities as each organization has spent countless hours making sure this is going to be the best Homecoming ever!

We look forward to seeing each and everyone of you tonight!!!

    TUESDAY 9/16/08
    FROM: COACH HOHENBERGER

Thanks again for your continued support of the football team and the coaches. Your support and presence means a great deal to all involved.

The game was full of excitement as the Vikings rallied back after a 21-7 deficit at halftime to tie the game at 21. The team again continued to fight even after having the chips against them. The kids never gave up and never stopped believing they could win. Although they have come up short the past couple of weeks, there is something special about to happen with these kids and we would like for all of you to be on board when it does.

The game was filled with a lot of excitement both on offense and defense. The offense was led by solid running by JJ Gaines, Corey Carter and Deonte Myrick. Defensively, Beau Burkhalter proved solid stopping the North Garland attack. Despite the great TEAM effort the Vikings came up a little short when time expired final score 30-21.

Again there is a new feel to the 2008 Vikings and something special is going to happen. Don't stop believing and "don't give up, don't ever give up!"

    MONDAY, 9/9/08
    FROM: COACH HOHENBERGER

First of all we wanted to say thank you for showing up and supporting your student athletes on Friday night at ISS. It was a great game if you were a spectator despite the heartbreaking loss the last 3 seconds of the ball game. The kids played hard and never gave up despite the many mistakes that were made on the field. There were plenty of opportunities for the players to give up and say, "its just not our night", but they kept fighting and scored to go ahead with 16 seconds left. The final score ended up 37-38.

The team was led offensively by JJ Gaines who accounted for 4 total touchdowns, 2 running and 2 passing, as well as Deonte Myrick who scored 1 touchdown and had over 100 yards of offense. Defensively the Vikings were led by Erik Martinez who led the team with 10 tackles.
Again, thanks for your continued support and we look foward to filling the stands again this Friday at ISS as we take on North Garland at 7:30. Everyone come out, make it a date and cheer on your students, we should fill the stands on home games!! It means a lot to your student athletes.

You can check out game information by going to the football website at www.leaguelineup.com/nimitz or by going to www.maxpreps.com and searching for Irving Nimitz football.

Thanks, have a great day and GO VIKINGS!
