2005 Track & Field Season Preview
The Fulton County Track & Field program begins its 2005 campaign March 31st with a Tri-Meet at Ballard Memorial and will showcase their athletic talents during meets at Crittenden County, Murray, Marshall County, Massac County, Union City, and Paducah in their journey to Lexington and their quest for the ever elusive team title. Both the Boys and Girls teams have been practicing and weight training since December in preparation for the Spring Season. While only losing one athlete to graduation both teams, though still young, carry a great deal of experience. Many now in high school have been competing since they were in 7th Grade.

2005 Season in Review
The 2005 Track & Field season was was a season of firsts for the Pilot and Lady Pilot Track Teams. For the first time the track team had over 30 athletes between both the Boys & Girls Teams. The Middle School Girls brought home the first track trophy at that level when they placed 3rd at the West KY Middle School Meet of Champions. The High School Girls brought home the first Girls High School Trophy when they placed 2nd at Fill the Lanes. Fulton County Hosted the Region 1 Class A Track Meet for the first time and it was a success. For the first time in 12 years the track team had to take a bus to Lexington when 10 athletes qualified for the State Meet. At the State Track Meet Sharika Smith broke the Class A & All Class Triple Jump Records with a jump of 39 feet becoming the school's first female state record holder. First year runner Malcolm Busby became Fulton County's first Boys State Champion in the Sprint events when he won the 100m Dash State Championship and paired that with a 2nd Place finish in the 200m. Senior Catrina Turner finshed her high school track career as Regional Champion in the Shot Put and Discus and earned a 4th place finish at State in the Shot Put to close the book.
2005 also showed promise for the future of Fulton County Track & Field when Ladaria Gaston, Gwenetta Bess, and Alex Barnett who along with Smith placed 1st in the Region and placed 9th at State in the 4x100m Relay earning them 1st Team All-State Recogniton. Destany Johnson threw the shot put to a 2nd place finish in the Region and placed 12th at State as an 8th Grader. Gwendolyn Bess made huge strides in the Triple Jump and earned a 5th place medal at Regions. Freshman Tony Udley Placed 2nd in the 400m Dash at Regions and earned him his first of soon to be many State bids. His 400m Dash Partner Ladrekus Moffatt also scored a 4th Place Finish at Regions. A young Boys 4x100m Relay team placed 5th at Regions with Antoine Gaston, James Moffatt, Chaz Dial, and Nathan Grasfeder and we had our first distance runners come out for the team in Lance Mudd and Jance Snisky.
