Dedication of the Innaugural Season (2005)
Our innagural season of the first Severn Athletic Club Girls Lacrosse program is dedicated to my coach and friend Mike Ballas. He past away in October 2004 when I was getting this program together. He was a great coach and a great person.
Coach Ballas was a pioneer of Lacrosse at Anne Arundel Community College. He came from a small town in West Virginia, graduated from Frostburg and went on to become the head coach of the mens lacrosse program at AACC. While playing for him for two seasons, he lead us to two national championship finals. An achievement that he managed to accomplish yearly with prior teams.
Shown below is a Maryland Gazette article of him receiving an award for winning 100 games from the US Lacrosse Coaches Association.

Here's the print from the MD Gazette CIRCA 1980
MIKE BALLAS, Associate Professor in Physical Education at Anne Arundel Community College, recently received an award from the United States Lacrosse Coaches Association's Century Club. The award was given to honor Professor Ballas, an Annapolitan, for coaching AACC's lacrosse team to over 100 wins. Coach Ballas has coached AACC's lacrosse team for 13 years and has participated in national championships for 12 of those years.
Here's one of our teams. Coach Ballas is to the right. My other good friend and coach is Alan Pastrana, who is hiding in the back row too. I'm #20 in the middle.
It was a long time ago OK!
