SFHA YIPS Intermediate girls visit Midland, Michigan.

The Intermediate YIPS team visited Midland, Michigan this past weekend, playing in the Midland Rainbow Tournament.

Game one of the tournament had the YIPS team facing the West Kent Hawks. West Kent took advantage of some early first period miscues by YIPS to lead 3 0 after one period of play. YIPS would control most of the rest of the game but the West Kent goaltender was solid in goal and kept her team ahead. YIPS made a huge run late in the third period, but wound up on the short end of 4 3 score. Ashley Bradley was game MVP for YIPS.

Game two the YIPS girls faced a hard, fast skating club from Gladwin Michigan. The YIPS girls never got their legs going in this contest and fell to the Gladwin team by a 5 0 score. Game MVP for YIPS was Sara Waite.

Game three was a winner move on to the play-off round game against Ann Arbor Pioneers. This turned out to be a back and forth goal scoring affair, with both teams finding their scoring touches. The game would end 6 6 after regulation play and require overtime to decided a winner. The game would go into double overtime and three on three play, before YIPS player and game MVP Katie Pietrzakowski found the back of the net with two minutes to play, to give YIPS the 7 6 victory.

The semi final match-up against the Michigan Capitals proofed to be a very feisty affair. A steady stream of players to the penalty box, with some trash talking in between, seemed to be the order of this game. The Sault girls battled hard but came up on the short end of a 6 3 score. Game MVP as not available.
