Frequently Asked Questions:
1. How much playing time will my child get?
Most competitive soccer teams play within division 3. Division 3 is
considered recreation soccer. Recreation rules continue to apply. All
players must play at least one half of the game.
2. What is the cost?
Registration is $85.00 per player. This covers referee fees, insurance
and field upkeep. Costs per team vary based on the coaches and
parents. The minimum would be $150.00. This would cover the uniform
and ten league games. Fees are based on tournaments, upgraded uniforms
and if the team hires a trainer.
3. How much travel is involved?
Five of the league games are played at Riverfront Park. The other five
games are at the teams' fields within your division. Most away games
are in the Sacramento area. If the team takes part in tournaments most
are in the Sacramento area but can be as far as Tahoe, Redding, and
Santa Cruz.
4. What is the time commitment?
Most teams practice two days per week. All league games are scheduled
on Saturdays. If a team plays in a tournament it will be both Saturday
and Sunday. Practice usually starts in May and games end in December.
5. Why competitive soccer?
Competitive soccer is a step above recreational soccer. It teaches
more advanced skills and team play. It prepares the players for high
school soccer. It is a lot of fun.
6. Who can play?
Both boys and girls from 10 to 18 years of age. Anyone with recreation
soccer experience and enjoys soccer should consider playing.
7. How are players selected?
Players are run thru a try-out process and will be evaluated by a
selection committee. The players that are selected are placed on a
team by the committee. There is usually 2 to 3 teams per age group and
gender.
