BCYL Varsity James River District Runner Up

BCYL Varsity Captains hit the field

The Buckingham County Youth League Varsity football team had a rough start going 1-5 in the varsity league. But the BCYL Varsity Knights went 4-0 in their last four games to come in 3rd place. After defeating the Nottoway Gators, the Buckingham Varsity team had to play the 2nd place Lunenburg Lightning in the James River District Champion game.

BCYL Varsity Defense ready for the snap

The Buckingham Knights made some mistakes that gave the Lightning the up hand by putting them in scoring position early in the 1st quarter. The Lightning also score in the 2nd period to go up 13-0. The Knights battled back scoring a TD of their own and went into the half down 7-13.

At the snap, the defense fire off

The 2nd half of the game, the Knights could move the ball and get into the red zone, but could not punch the ball into the end zone. The Lunenburg Lightning could not get pass the Knights defense to score again. But their defense wouldn't allow the Buckingham Knights to tie or get a lead as their fell to Lunenburg 13-7.

The offense could move the ball, but couldn't score in the 2nd half

The Buckingham County Youth League Varsity ended the season as the 2016 James River District Champions Runner Up.

BCYL Knights Get Revenge on Raiders

The Buckingham County Youth League Varsity Football played the Amelia Raiders back in September and Loss 6-0 in the fourth game of the season.

The BCYL Varsity Knights came out moving the ball on offense to start the game pretty well. However the Raiders stopped the Knights on the goal line and took over on downs. But that allowed the Knights defense to step up and got a safety to start the game with a 2-0 lead.

BCYL corners shut down the Amelia passing game

On the kick off, the Knights got great field position that lead to a Buckingham Touchdown and with PAT, the Knights lead 9-0 early in the 1st quarter. But on the kick off, the Raiders Special team to the ball all the way back for a touchdown to close the gap 9-6. The Knights came right back and scored another TD to take a halftime lead of 15-6.

After the half, the Knights defense held up until late in the 4th quarter at the Raiders scored another TD. But it wasn't enough as the BCYL Varsity Knights took the win with a final score of 15-12.

In the first meeting this season with Amelia the Knights fell to 1-4 and just in front of the then (and now) last place Nottoway Gators with a 0-5 record. Since that time, the BCYL Varsity Knights went 3-1 and after defeating the Amelia Raiders this weekend was in a 3 way tie with the Raiders and Charlotte Patriots for the 3rd place spot in the league. After the calculations the Buckingham County Youth League Varsity team will be in the 3rd place spot in the Varsity's league.

BCYL Varsity Handle the Patriots

The BCYL Varsity team hit the field

The Buckingham County Youth League Varsity Football team hosted the Charlotte County Patriots on Sunday afternoon instead of Saturday. Due to the excess amount of water left on the field after hurricane Matthew over the weekend.

During the last meeting between the Patriots, the BCYL Varsity Knights took a 21-2 beating at Randolph Henry High School the second game of the season. Now it was time for revenge!

The BCYL Knights came right down the field and scored a touchdown in the first quarter of the game. When switched to the defense side of the ball, the Patriots couldn't get close to the end zone to score. At the half, the Knights maintained their 7-0 lead. In the second half, the Knights scored TD's in the 3rd and also the 4th quarter of the game. While converting on all of their 1 point PAT for the day and continuing with the tough defense like in the first half of the game, the Knights defeated the Patriots 21-0.

The next game for the BCYL Varsity team will be at Gene Dixon Park next weekend. The Knights will host the Nottoway Gators for our Homecoming.

Knights vs Lightning...A Heck of a Battle

The Buckingham County Youth League Varsity Football team went into Lunenburg to go up against the first place Lightning. The undefeated Lunenburg Lightning has been rolling along the James River Southside Youth Sports Association League. With only six Varsity teams in the league, there is no James River or Southside District with the Varsity football teams.

With a short run, the BCYL Knights punch into the end zone with another TD.

The Buckingham County Youth League Knights with a good kick off pinned the Lightning back and with good defense kept them from making a first down. After a couple of plays, the Knights was up on the Lightning 6-0 early. Something Lunenburg haven't experienced this season...being down to another team.

The Lightning got back on track and added a TD of their own but converted on the PAT to take a 7-6 lead. Both teams scored another touchdown and both failed on the PAT as time ran out with Lunenburg remaining undefeated with a 13-12 victory.

The Buckingham County Youth League Knights will have a Bye next week and their next game will be at Gene Dixon Park as the Knights will host the Charlotte Patriots on Oct 8, 2016'

BCYL Varsity Knights takes 2nd Loss

BCYL Varsity Captains at Coin Toss.

The Buckingham County Youth League Varsity football team travel to Charlotte Courthouse for their official first Away game of the 2016 season. Last season the BCYL Varsity team split with the Patriots going 1-1 in the regular season. Defeating the Patriots 13-0 in the first game of the season and losing their last Home game 2-0 in a defensive battle. This season, how will the Knights do with a team that usually get up early to play?

The Charlotte Patriots Varsity football team jumped on the BCYL Knights early in the first quarter scoring on a long TD run to take the early 7-0 lead. Going into Halftime, the BCYL Knights was losing 21-0 against a Patriots team that was hard to stop.

The BCYL Varsity trying to make a comeback in the 2nd half of the game.

After the 2nd half of the game, the Knights made their 2nd half adjustment starting with a tighter defense by not allowing the Charlotte team to score anymore TDs. Later the Knights defensive stand put points on the board with a "Safety", and they started to put a pretty good drive together. But it was too late as the time ran out in the game as the Charlotte Patriots defeat the Knights 21-2.

Next week the Knights will travel to Nottoway to play the Gators and try to get their record to .500. Check listing for game information.
