FL Girls Softball Rules - MAJOR LEAGUE

Fort Lee Girls Major League Softball Rules
1.   Teams can begin a game with a minimum of eight players. 
2.   All games will begin at scheduled game times.  Any teams not being able to field a minimum number of players will forfeit at this time. 
3.   When coaches exchange lineups these are the only girls eligible to play.  A predetermined exception can be made with the consent of the opposing coach.  Players arriving after the start of the game will be put in at the bottom of the lineup. If a player arrives after the start of the 5th inning, she cannot enter the game.Any religious commitment will automatically be an exemption.  The girl will bat last in the batting order. 
4.   Each game is six innings - extra innings in case of a tie until one team wins....
5.   No one can pitch more than four consecutive innings per game
6.   Maximum of five runs for each team in each inning.  Only exception is the last inning where both teams can score an unlimited number of runs. 
7.   Each player must bat in the rotation in the batting order.  The batting order will be progressive with all players in attendance included. 8.   Any team batting out of order will be penalized by an immediate out
9.   All players must play at least three innings per game in the field
10.  Players can switch positions, but after a pitcher is taken out, the pitcher cannot return as a pitcher
11.  Maximum of four walks per inning - (HB) hits batsman is counted as a walk
12.  After four walks, the coach of the batting team will finish pitching the inning.  The coach will not field, but if inadvertently catches a ball, a foul ball will be called on the batter.  If the coach who is pitching is hit with the ball or makes contact with a player, the play will continue as if he were an umpire.  The "removed" pitcher must play defense maintaining one foot on or in either side of the pitching circle
13.  Teams may use up to five infielders.  The rest of the players must stay on the outfield grass.  Infielders must stay behind imaginary arc created by the distance from the pitcher’s mound to the home plate.  All fielders must wear face guards. 
14.  Slide or avoid when going into any base - if the runner makes contact with the fielder, she will be called out by the umpire.
15.  Bunting is allowed. 
16. Stealing will be allowed, but only to third base.  In the event of an overthrow, the runner is not allowed to advance.  The player may leave the base when the ball passes home plate.  If the throw from a catcher to the pitcher is errant the runner may also go to the next base.  When the ball is in the pitchers possession, the runner must then return to the base
17. The pitcher must have one foot on the rubber when beginning her pitching motion. The pitcher may not step backwards before delivering her pitch. One foot must be touching the rubber upon the release of the ball with their back foot dragging on the ground – NO HOPPING.  The Pitching rubber will be a distance of 40 feet from the back of the home plate.
18.  When the ball is in the pitchers possession in the circle surrounding the mound, the play is dead.  If the runner is less than half way to the next base, she will be sent back to the base from which she came.  If she is more than half way, she will go to the next base.  No play at that point can be made on any runner.
19.  Player gets on base when hit by a pitched ball even if the ball hits the ground.  The umpire may overrule the call if the player did not attempt to get out of the way. 
20.  Any pitcher hitting two batters in one inning is "replaced" by another pitcher on the team, however the replacement pitcher is now assessed one inning pitched even if she only pitched to one batter.  The offending pitcher will be allowed to come back and pitch the next inning provided she has not pitched to her max 4 innings.  If a pitcher hits three players in the game, she must be removed from pitching and replaced by another pitcher but she can play other positions
21.  Only three coaches per team are allowed on the field at any time.  Only certified coaches can be on the field of play.
22.  When a player throws the bat, the first offence is a warning to the batter.  The second offence is an automatic out to that batter.  The third offence is an automatic removal of that player from the game however, their position in the line up remains but will be considered an automatic out each time up there after the removal of the game 
23.  One base on an overthrow going into foul territory. 
24. Any inappropriate behavior by anyone attending the game will not b tolerated.  If it continues, they will be asked to leave the field and may not be allowed to return.
25.  If any dispute exists, the umpire has the right to make the final decision.  During the season, the league will not accept any protest of any kind.  During the playoff, a league official will oversee all games.
26.  Only rubber or plastic cleats are allowed.  All players should be in appropriate uniforms
27.  The infield fly rule will be in affect
28. Only 12-inch balls will be used
29. No wooded bats may be used at a game
30. If the weather is threatening, games will begin with the consent of both coaches.  Once the game begins, the umpire will make the decision to continue or suspend the game due to bad weather.  A game will be deemed official if the losing team bats at least four times.
31. If a coach is ejected from the game, he will be suspended for the rest of the season.
32. Under no circumstances will coaches be allowed to remove their team from the field.  The game will be played out and if an unfair circumstance has occurred, it will be dealt with after the game.
33. If a team knowingly does not notify any of the girls for practices or games they will be eliminated from the year-end tournament.  The team will be notified when the tournament begins.
34.  Leadoffs are not allowed. Baserunners must hold the base until the pitch croasses home plate. Running with the pitch is not allowed.
35. For safety reasons no player may wear jewelry of any kind.
