THANK YOU FOR COACHING

“The Coach is first of all a teacher.”- John Wooden

The Grand Rapids Area Basketball Association welcomes you to the basketball program. Your dedication as a mentor to our young athletes is to be commended! A goal of GRABA is for all youth basketball participants, both parents and athletes, to have an enjoyable basketball experience. Skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship is the main focus of GRABA. GRABA’s programs are made possible by the dedication of volunteers, with many volunteers putting in several hours of work to make the GRABA a success! We can't do what we do without you!

COACHING BACKGROUND CHECKS

All GRABA coaches must go through a background check with the company Verity, in order to coach in the program.

CONCUSSION TRAINING

GRABA mandates that the following is adhered to by all coaches, parents, and players:

Minnesota Concussion Law

The Minnesota Legislature passed a "Concussion Law" that requires any municipality, business, school district or nonprofit organization that organizes a youth athletic activity and charges a fee to follow the statute's requirements, including implementing concussion training and education to improve player safety and establish safe return-to-play policies for athletes who sustain a concussion.

The law mandates that:

All coaches (head and assistants) receive concussion training once every three years.

Coaches must remove an athlete from activity if they exhibit signs, symptoms or behaviors consistent with a concussion and/or are suspected of sustaining a concussion.

The law also requires an appropriate health care professional's signature to return to play if an athlete is removed due to a concussion or is showing signs or symptoms of a concussion.

Coaches: Click here to complete the free, 30-minute concussion training course. You will be asked to provide your name and email in order to register and complete the course. At the end of the course, please print your certificate of completion and turn it into the appropriate coordinator.
