Wolves Go Undefeated in Durham West Tournament
February 17, 2008 --
The Wolves went through the round robin portion of the Durham West tournament without a loss. Playing in a very strong Pool B, they tied Mississauga 2-2, Woodstock 1-1, and Nepean 0-0. Unfortunately the 3 points were not enough to advance to the semi-finals as they were edged out by Nepean on goal differential. Both Woodstock and Nepean won their semi-final games, and will play for the gold medal.

11th Annual WGHA Rep Tournament
Friday Nov 30/07 - Wolves 4 - Lightning 0
The Wolves played their best 'early morning' game of the season, as they opened their hometown tournament with a 4 - 0 win over the Lightning.
The scoring was spread around, with 9 players collecting points. Sarah opened the scoring in the first period, assisted by Bethany. In the second period Jennifer finished off a strong forechecking effort, getting the puck past the Lightning goalie with JC and Katie helping. The Wolves put it out of reach with two goals in the third period - Ainsleigh from Leslie and Jennifer, and Ali from Lauren.
Jessica didn't have a busy morning in net, but saved everything that came her way to register her 2nd shutout of the season.
The Wolves will try to repeat the early morning success on Saturday at 8:15 against Niagara Falls.
Saturday Dec 1/07 - Wolves Shut Down Niagara Falls
The Wolves produced one of their strongest efforts of the season, as they defeated Niagara Falls 4 - 0 on Saturday morning. Jennifer lead the scorers with a goal and two assists, Ainsleigh, JC, and Sarah each had a goal and an assist. The Wolves outshot the Thunder 38 - 3, with only strong goaltending keeping the score as close as it was. Melissa made the saves when needed, to earn the shutout.
The Wolves are now 2 - 0 in the tournament, and take on London tonight.
Saturday Dec 1/07 - London 2 - Wolves 0
The Wolves gave a good effort in their final roundrobin game of the tournament, but fell 2 - 0 to London. The Wolves' strong efforts in their first two games put them in position to capture the wildcard spot, and will look for revenge on Sunday morning when they take on London again in the semi-final.
Sunday Dec 2/07 - A Tough Loss For The Wolves
The Wolves faced off against London on Sunday morning in the tournament semi-final.
Having played a tight game with the Devilettes the night before, the Wolves knew they would be in for a close, hard-checking game. London scored an early goal, but the Wolves never gave up and worked hard to shut down the Devilette attack and create some scoring chances of their own. Mid-way through the 3rd period the Wolves persistence paid off as they got one by the London goalie. Unfortunately, everyone in the arena saw the puck go into and out of the net except for the two referees, who waved off the goal. The Wolves didn't give up, and outplayed London throughout the 3rd period. However, it wasn't to be, as they were unable to score the elusive equalizer, and the score remained 1 - 0.
The Wolves can be very proud of their effort throughout the tournament, and will continue to build on these results.

Cornwall Tournament - Game Reports
October 21, 2007 --
Friday 3:00 pm Game 1 vs Nepean
The Wolves opened the Cornwall tournament in fine fashion with an exciting 1 – 0 win over Nepean. The game was a close checking affair with few scoring chances for either team. With less than a minute to play Jennifer fired a quick shot off an offensive zone face-off. The Nepean goalie made the save, but Ali jammed in the rebound for the game’s only goal. Nepean pulled their goalie and poured on the pressure in a final attempt to equalize, but Jessica made a big save to preserve the win and the shutout.
Saturday 10:00 am Game 2 vs Cornwall
Saturday morning saw the Wolves return to the Bob Turner Memorial Centre to face the hometown Cornwall Typhoons. The Wolves faced an additional challenge when players began complaining of flu-like symptoms before the game. Ainsleigh was unable to play, and three others were questionable as the game began. Investigations have ruled out any subterfuge by the opponents, and it appears that Friday night’s pizza may be to blame. Despite the obstacles the Wolves came out and played a hard-working, (dare we say) gutsy game against a tough Cornwall team. JC gave Whitby a 1 - 0 lead in the first period, assisted by Sarah and Lauren, but Cornwall replied with 4 unanswered goals to take the game 4 – 1. Despite the loss, the coaching staff was very proud of the girls, who never gave up and battled hard right to the end.
Sunday: 7:30 am Game 3 vs Gloucester Cumberland Stars
The Wolves had an early start Sunday morning against the Gloucester-Cumberland Stars, the only Peewee BB team in the tournament. The Wolves skated hard and had the bigger, more experienced Stars worried. Trailing 3 – 1 going into the third period the Wolves poured it on looking for the equalizer, but 2 goals by Gloucester put the game away for the Stars. Katie scored the lone Wolves goal on the power play, assisted by Bethany and Jessica.
While the results weren’t as good as the team would have liked, there were lots of positives from the tournament. Coach Mike commented “…from a development point of view I think this weekend was great for the girls. It showed us some things we need to know and it showed the girls some things that work and do not work for them. The 2 losses may do more for our team in the long run than if we had played 3 weak teams and beat them all easily. We aren’t quite there yet but we may be closer than it seems. Provincials are won in April, so one step at a time!”
A great time was had by all, and a separate report on the rest of the weekend will appear soon. Thanks to all who contributed to the weekend, and especially to Jessica T who filled in admirable in goal on very short notice.

Oshawa Tournament - Tough loss for the Wolves
September 29, 2007 --
Saturday 8:15 am vs Woodstock
The Wolves lost 5 - 0 on Saturday morning to a very good Woodstock Wildcats team. The loss eliminated the Wolves from the Oshawa Fall Classic.
The Wolves were in a strong pool. Woodstock and Hamilton advanced from the Wolves' pool, and both won their semi-final games to play each other in the tournament final. Woodstock came away as the tournament champions, winning the final 4 - 2. Congratulations to the Wildcats...but you haven't seen the last of the Wolves!
Friday 3:00 pm vs Hamilton
The Wolves played to a hard fought 1 - 1 tie with the Hamilton Hawks Friday afternoon. The Hawks came out playing a physical game, but the Wolves responded with a good skating game and weren't intimidated by the bigger opponents. Katie played tough in front of the Hawks' net, pushing a loose puck past the goalie, to score the equalizer in the third period.
Friday 8:00 am vs Clarington
The Wolves opened the Oshawa tournament with a 1 - 1 draw against Clarington. Ali scored an early unassisted goal, pouncing on a juicy rebound. Despite out-chancing the Flames the rest of the way, the Wolves were unable to put any more by the Clarington goalies. Play continues this afternoon when the Wolves take on Hamilton.
