FLEMINGTON-RARITAN BASEBALL
Serving the Youth of Flemington-Raritan since 1953
Flemington Raritan Baseball (FRB) little league was founded in 1953 with only 4 teams. Today over 900 boys and girls play baseball in divisions from 5 years old to 16 years old.
Games are played at the FRB complex on Williams Street in Flemington and at Lenape Park on Route 523 in Raritan Township. The complex on Williams Street consists of three (3) lighted little league fields, six batting cages, and a snack bar.
Spring Baseball
In the spring over 70 teams play baseball in the following divisions:
Instructional (5 years old): Players are introduced to basic baseball skills. The program is set-up as a clinic as players learn throwing, batting, sliding, and running at various coach instructed stations.
Bambino (6 years old): The instructional concept is continued as players begin to learn the various positions on the field.
Mantle (7 years old): Skill development is continued and players are introduced to the rules of the game. Coach pitching is also introduced.
Rookies (8 years old): Players begin playing simulated games where limited player pitching and catching are introduced. There is an increased focus on the rules of the game and continued development of hitting and throwing skills.
Minors (9-10 Years old): Players play games with umpires, player pitching, and official scoring. Teams also hold separate practice sessions during the week.
Majors (11-12 Years old): Game is played on a 50-70 field with leading is. League play is continued where base-stealing is part of the game. Players begin preparing to move to the ‘big’ field in the Seniors Division.
Seniors (13-16 Years old): League play on the larger – 90-foot field. Finer points of the game are introduced – hit and run, leads. Games are held at Lenape Park.
Summer/Travel Baseball
In the summer FRB provides players who wish to enhance their skills the opportunity to play on travel teams. These teams consist of a select group of players from the spring season. The travel program offers a more competitive environment as teams play in various tournaments throughout central Jersey. Close to 200 players participate on travel teams at ages 8 through 15 years old.
The FRB teams also compete in Cal Ripken and Babe Ruth District Tournaments with the possibility of advancing to State, Regional, and National tournaments.
For the last several years, FRB has also sent teams from the 12 year-old division to a National Tournament in Oneonta, New York at Cooperstown Baseball World and to the Cal Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach South Carolina.
Fall Baseball
In the fall, Flemington Raritan Baseball offers a baseball season that runs from early September through October. Players from ages 6 through 15 are given the opportunity to experience play at the next level – or what they will encounter in the upcoming spring season.
The fall season is a non-competitive league format. There are no league standings or playoffs. The emphasis is entirely on learning baseball in a game environment. The Fall League has included teams and players from many surrounding towns both inside and beyond the Hunterdon County borders. Over 400 players participate. The league in recent seasons has used the Jack Cust Baseball Academy field for the Senior Division games.
FRB is a member of Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth Baseball.
