Vince Ahearn
Head Coach

Head Coach Vince Ahearn began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Good Counsel High School in 1989. From there he moved to Bladensburg High School as an assistant before being named head coach at Suitland High School. While at Suitland he brought that team out of a 13-year losing streak and turned it into a program that appears regularly in post-season play. In 1996 he moved to Frederick and took over the Cadet program. After 12 seasons, he is the second-most winning coach in Frederick High history. He has sent many players on to play college ball over the years and this school year alone he can boast that more than twenty former Cadets who will be playing at the college level. Several former players have even gone on to play in the NFL- most notably Lamont Jordan of the Denver Broncos and Ebenezer Ekuban, formerly of the Broncos. Among his coaching staff this year are seven former players from Frederick High School. Coach Ahearn's wife, Becky, is a teacher in Montgomery County. His son, Vinnie is a sophomore defensive back at Salisbury University, Alec and his daughter, Natalie, both currently attend Frederick High School. Past honors for Coach Ahearn include the 2006 Jerry E. Mears Service to Football Award given by the Maryland State Football Coaches Association, being named to MDVarsity's top 15 most influential people in Maryland high school football list, and organizing state all-star games in 2003 and 2004. Coach Ahearn continues as an active member of the Maryland High School Football Coaches Association and participates in many combines and training events each year. He teaches special education classes at Frederick High School.

Coach Ahearn earned yet another feather in his cap from the NFL this year by being asked for a fourth year to coach an all-star 7-on-7 team at the national championship held at the Minnesota Vikings  training facility.. Coach Ahearn's team represented the Baltimore Ravens franchise at the three day event. Players were selected from boys who attended the HSPD Camp in May and included Deon Walker, Tyler Kight, Greg Ehabe and Jalen Gee of Frederick High School. Coach Ahearn and the twelve team members were treated to round-trip airfare, hotel accommodations and meals at local places of interest. They also received lots of NFL merchandise and all called it a great experience.  Coach Ahearn was also awarded the AFC Coaches Sportsmanship Award for the tournament.

Coach Ahearn continues to work very hard at Frederick High School to assure that our athletes enjoy a quality high school football experience. It is also important to him to maintain the first class reputation he has established at Frederick High as a home to many rewarding and exciting events. During his tenure at Frederick High he has developed and successfully runs the MDVarsity.com Passing Jamboree-the largest high school 7-on-7 event in the east. He organizes and oversees the local NFLHSPD Camp (NFL High School Player Development Camp) which included more than 450 athletes this year making it the largest such camp in the country. This is not only a great learning experience for players, but also an important one as college coaches are allowed to attend and watch players that could be future recruits to their programs. FHS has also become a favorite venue for combines sponsored by the Sparq/Nike organization.
