    GUWBC Tournament 2006 - Update

A record 22 teams entered into this year’s tournament – a huge thank you to all teams who entered and especially to all those who organised each team. It’s all gone for another year, after such a fantastic weekend of basketball and socialising how could I not agree to do it for another year! I wish all those unfortunate players who picked up injuries throughout the weekend a full and speedy recovery (in time for returning to Glasgow next year!)

Team Photos will slowly appear on the website and all teams who managed to get their photo taken will be e-mailed a copy in the very near future!

Another huge thank you must go to our Tournament Officials – 18 officials from across Scotland as well as our travelling refs – you are all more than welcome to come back again next year! Without your support this event would not be possible!

All game results are now on the website, click on Game Results and follow the link for the tournament competition to view the tournament standings then you will need to go to the Standings section.

Congratulations to Saints and Scotland CW who managed to go undefeated in their respective women’s groups. Saints managed to see off Strathclyde University in their early Sunday morning semi-final, the fact that the students probably managed to drink their own body weight in alcohol the night before may have had a slight effect on the game. The youth of the Scotland team had an impact on London Storm in their early morning encounter! A very closely competitive final saw Saints edge over the under 16 national side by only 5 points!

The mixed sections proved to be closely fought with Section A having an outright winner and the remaining places going to points difference. Warriors 1 managed to win outright, even after forfeiting a game to Glasgow Storm to watch the football (we won’t mention that result!). Section B was less of a points difference affair with West Cost Phillies coming out on top undefeated closely followed by Warriors 2. The first semi-final was a Warriors match-up and the other semi-final was a battle of the West of Scotland. Warriors 1 and West Coast Phillies seeing off Warriors 2 and Glasgow Storm in their respective games.

The final was a closely fought affair with the giant Warriors 1 coming out eventual winners!

Warriors also managed to secure the 'Spirit of the Tournament' award for being hugely entertaining on and off the court!

Thanks again to Curlers for providing the venue for Friday night’s and allowing us to sell tickets for our fantastic raffle and for those of you who still think it was a fix – I can assure you it wasn’t as I managed to win some prizes ; ). Congratulations to Shonagh Fullarton from Warriors who managed to see off Anna Gordon of GUWBC fame in the final of the limbo competition – my back hurts just thinking about how low you both got. Thanks to all competitors who made the competition highly entertaining and to Alyson who seemed to have a slight problem with judging the height of her end of the pole!! The Sports Café played host to the Saturday night entertainment – big thanks to all those who bought me drinks (and thanks to those who didn’t as I’m not sure it was physically possible to consume any more!!)

Think that's enough rambling from me, if anyone has photos they would like on the website or anyone wants to make suggestions/comments about this year or next then please e-mail Tournament Organiser , sign our guestbook or chat online in our Forum!

Provisional dates for next year's tournament Friday 29th June - Sunday 1st July 2007!
