*Must be signed and handed into coach PRIOR to placement on either squad*

As the head of the Livonia Cheerleading Program I hope that you cherish the experiences, memories and challenges you will have throughout this season. You will learn things like self discipline, how to work as a team, how to work through frustrating times and the importance of helping others. Please understand that a winning team comes from hard work and a strong commitment. Therefore the following rules have been established so that each team member can enjoy the experience and we can work towards rebuilding this program!! – Coach

    Livonia Cheerleading
    Code of Conduct

    A. Participation in the Sport
    1. Grades - The student must be academically eligible to try out and to participate in games/competitions. (For Fall, June report cards will be checked. For Winter, the first marking period will be checked.)
    2. Attendance - All athletes must be in school for all of their classes the day of practice, a game, or tryouts. (If there is a Saturday game, this applies to the Friday prior to the contest). You will not be permitted to participate in the respective activity on the day the requirement is not met, unless there are special circumstances.
    3. Physicals - All cheerleaders must have a valid physical form and be recertified by the school nurse PRIOR TO TRYOUTS.

    B. Injuries, Illness, or Absence
    1. If any injury occurs while cheering, without the coach’s knowledge, it is the responsibility of the cheerleader to inform her immediately. In that way, proper procedures may be followed.
    2. Once a cheerleader has been restricted from cheerleading as a result of serious injury or extended illness, she must obtain a signed note from a physician, stating permission to resume total participation in the sport. It will be to the coach’s discretion as to the injured cheerleader being able to compete in upcoming competitions.
    3. All practices are MANDATORY. It is the responsibility of the cheerleader to be at all practices for the entire amount of time. (Be advised that games occur during school vacations, as well. You are required to be present at these games.)
    4. The only legal absences are sickness or injury.
If the injury permits it, the cheerleader is required to attend practices, and attend games in complete uniform. The only exception is a long-standing doctor’s appointment that can not be changed. DO NOT MAKE APPOINTMENTS ON GAME OR PRACTICE DAYS.
    5. If an absence is necessary for any reason, a parent/cheerleader must call the coach ahead of time. Please find the appropriate phone numbers at the end of the document where messages may be left. If the coach is not notified, a suspension may result. We strongly advise that you talk to the coach in addition to leaving a message.
    6. Arriving late or leaving early from practices/games is not permissible. Also, it is required that cheerleaders return to the field or court before the time has completely elapsed from the half-time intermission.
    7. No athletes are allowed to be at parties or functions where alcohol is being served. The athlete must leave the function, or suspension will ensue.
    8. Cell phones need to remain in the possession of the coach or in your bags throughout the duration of the games. There is to be NO text messaging or cell phone usage on the sidelines unless it is an emergency. Parents are able to contact you via your coach’s cell phone at any time.

    C. Appearance
    1. Minimal make-up is permitted, when used in good taste. The girls may be permitted to wear more makeup for competitions but ONLY when permitted by the coaching staff.
    2. Hair must be kept out of the face while cheering. Long hair must be in a ponytail. Bangs, per the new National Federation of Sports Rules, must be out of the face. Make-up and hair should be done prior to coming to school for games. If hair needs to be done at school, the cheerleader must be at school one half-hour prior to the required arrival time. Bobby pins and gymnastic clips are allowed.
    3. Nail polish is not permitted. False nails are also not permitted; they pose a safety hazard to teammates.
    4. No jewelry of any kind is allowed at practice, games, competitions, or any time uniforms are worn (including when uniforms are worn at school).
    5. No gum chewing is allowed during practices, games, competitions, or whenever uniforms are worn.
    6. Uniforms must be kept neat and clean at all times. This includes sneakers and socks. Only regulation socks, body suites, and briefs can be worn. If your uniform is not turned in or turning in damaged, a fine may result in order to replace it.
    7. No drinking, eating, applying make-up, cellphone use or brushing hair during a game. At half time, make-up and hair may be freshened in the restroom.
    8. Socializing must be kept to a minimum during games. That includes socializing with squad mates, spectators and parents.
    9. No holding hands, hugging, or kissing -in uniform- in public.
    10. Athletes may not use alcohol, drugs, or cigarettes while a member of the cheerleading program. This includes in or out of school.
    11. Insubordination (rudeness/disrespect) to coaches, teacher, or other adults, will result in an immediate suspension.
    12. While waiting for a game or competition to start you are ONLY allowed to wear one of the following; warm up suit (with shirt and bundies on underneath and zipped up) or your full uniform ZIPPED/on correctly and appropriately. No skirts should be worn without being zipped up or rolled to make them shorter. Also you are not allowed to wear your bundies or your body liner without clothing on top. If found doing so, you will sit.

    In Case of Absences
Parents must call one of the following numbers. Please keep these numbers in an accessible place. If a parent does not talk directly to a coach, a message must be left (the coaches will call you back at their earliest convenience). Parents and/or cheerleaders must speak to the coach at some point in the SAME day they are absent.

    Head Coach: Melissa Coveny 576-5312
Junior Varsity Coach: Krista Benson 230-7086
    Assistant Coach: Karen Reeder

    TRANSPORTATION
Transportation is provided for most contests and tournaments. Members are expected to be on the bus to and from contest. Cheerleaders will not be allowed to go home in family cars from away contests without written permission and a 24 notice to the athletic director. No cheerleaders will be allowed to ride in cars with other students or friends from contests.

    MYSPACE/FACEBOOK CONTENT
We all know that www.myspace.com/www.facebook.com have become very popular and most, if not all of you, have a page on these websites. For those of you that don’t know, so do members of the coaching staff. That means we have access to anything you post and can look at your pages at any time. If you make a team and are caught with any inappropriate pictures and/or comments, you could be benched and possibly suspended from the team. Inappropriate content would be anything related to the following: alcohol, smoking, drugs, sex, negative comments about rival squads and vulgar language. The information/pictures obtained will be sent directly to the athletic director. We realize that you are able to make your profiles private so that they are not visible to certain people. Yet even if the coaching staff cannot see your profile, other people can and if there is inappropriate content on your profile, you may still get caught. As part of this program, we expect you to carry yourselves as respectable young ladies and act as role models. If you make a team, you will 2 days to clean up your pages.
