Game Review for 3rd October 2009

On Saturday 3rd October 2009 at Oxford Brookes University, the Oxford Hoops Sharks played their first two games in the Oxford Central Venue League. For the first game, the Sharks headed onto court to face the Abingdon Eagles.

The game started brightly, with both teams fighting hard, and the score was level until near to the end of the first half. Despite trailing by a slight margin, we went on court for the second half with more confidence having had an encouraging team talk. We started to score more baskets, and gradually we got closer to levelling, however Abingdon’s height was a key advantage to their play, as they had the upper hand in the rebounding department. We continued to press forward, but as the final buzzer sounded, the match ended Sharks 25 – 45 Abingdon.

Our next match was against Faringdon. We knew from our last game that we had to strengthen our defence, and try to grab as many rebounds as possible, however Faringdon also had a lot of height in their team, and were able to dominate the boards. As half time came, we found ourselves down by a couple of baskets and we knew that we were not playing to our best standard. Despite some brilliant baskets in the second half, the score was Sharks 25 – 31 Faringdon.

Thanks to Coach Porter and Coach Smith who helped us out through both of the games and gave great support to everyone.
