The Wayne Wolverines were organized as a competitive travel team and joined the Main Line Junior Legion Baseball League in early 1998. With the help of Ralph DiMaio (G.M. of the Wayne Senior Legion Team), Manager R.J. Guyer, and coaches Gary Bosma and Dave Eichinger, the team began play under the nickname of the Wolverines.

The team fielded a team of 18 players and had no idea what was ahead of them. The league was composed of Roxborough, Del Val, Brookline, Ardmore Manor, and Narberth playing each team 3 times for a 15 game schedule. The team finished in second place with a 10-5 league record and lost in the finals to Roxborough.

The 1999 season saw the team pick up the additional territory of the Marple Newtown School District because of the small population base in Radnor. The team however was unable to get a big draw as only 15 players tried out (only 4 players returning due to graduations and players moving) for the team.



1998 Season Recap



The 1998 season began with 18 players from 7 different schools coming together to form the first ever Wayne Wolverines Junior Legion baseball team. The team was able to jump out with some good wins but had problems against the upper echelon of the league at first. By midseason this would change as they were playing everyone tough and winning the close games as they ran finished with a 10-5 league record coming in second place putting them in the league semifinals. After a sweep of Narberth in the semi's they were unable to do anything against Roxborough as they fell to them 2-0 in the league finals.
