Late Rally by Juniors Wins Delaware Crown

July 30 -- The scoreboard operators were busy at Midway on Saturday night as Brandywine and Dover combined for 23 runs. Brandywine eventually won the offensive battle 12-11 in seven innings. The two teams combined for 28 hits, including four extra base hits.

There were plenty of hitting stars on both sides. Billy Vernon racked up six RBIs on four hits for Brandywine. Vernon singled in the first, third, sixth, and seventh innings.  Mikey Bannon got on base in all five plate appearances with two doubles, a triple and two walks for Brandywine. Zack Stone racked up two RBIs on three hits for Dover. Stone homered in the sixth inning and singled in the first and seventh innings.

With two out in the Brandywine seventh, Dover walked Mikey Bannon and Billy Phillips. Chris Mako was hit by a pitch which was followed by a Billy Vernon single.  Joey Voge ended the game with a bases-loaded walk-off two-run single to left field.

Evan Moser threw two-thirds of an inning of scoreless ball in the top of the seventh to record the victory for Brandywine.

Brandywine advances to represent Delaware in the Junior League Regional Tournament in Freehold Township, NJ. where they will open against Maine on Saturday, August 6.

Juniors Coming Home After 8-5 Loss to Rhode Island

Courtesy of the News Journal:

Brandywine staged a seventh-inning rally against Rhode Island but fell short in an 8-5 loss and was eliminated from the Junior League Baseball East Regional Tournament at Freehold Township, N.J., on Wednesday night.

Brandywine had entered the day at the double-elimination tournament with no losses, but a 15-9 defeat at the hands of Pennsylvania in the afternoon forced the Delaware team to play a second game in the evening for the right to advance to today's final. Rhode Island had taken an 8-3 lead entering the top of the final inning. Brandywine scored twice, but couldn't sustain the rally. Danny Bannon had two hits -- including a double -- and an RBI for Brandywine. Joey Voge and Billy Phillips each added a hit and an RBI for the Delaware team. Michael Bannon had four stolen bases and scored three runs.

In the first game of the day against Pennsylvania, Phillips had three hits, two stolen bases and scored two runs and Ian Campbell added a home run and two RBIs. Evan Moser had two hits, two stolen bases and two runs scored.

In the first game of the tourney, Brandywine LL jumped on Massachusetts early on its way to a 7-2 win on Monday at Freehold Twp. LL in seven innings, scoring three runs in the first inning.  Brandywine pounded out nine hits including doubles from Billy Phillips, Chris Mako(2), and Joey Voge and a stand-up triple from Mikey Bannon.  They also stole four bases in the contest. Phillips and Brian Canfield combined for five-hitter with five strikeouts, one walk and only one earned run.
