In the 5th grade there are two programs available:

The traditional Sunday program will continue to be the cornerstone of our GCYL experience. Any player who wishes to participate is eligible to play. Teams will be formed and registered in the Nassau County P.A.L. program and will enjoy a full travel schedule against towns like Manhasset, Cold Spring Harbor and Port Washington. The schedule will have a balance of home and away games. There will also be two practices during the week at St. Paul’s.

A competitive committed team program is offered to those players who wish to augment their P.A.L games. Due to the skill level required, this team is selected by open try-outs which are conducted in mid-July. These two teams will practice 2-3 times per week and will play games on both Saturdays and Sundays.

For those that were selected for one of the two select teams, a competitive Saturday afternoon schedule will be offered in the spring and during the summer the two skill based teams will participate in three tournaments and two round robins. Past tournaments have included the Long Island LaxFest, FLG Spring Shootout, UMass Gorilla Classis and the Harvard Crimson Lax Classic.

NOTE: 5th graders interested in the competitive committed team program for the winter training, spring 2019 (6th Grade) and summer 2019, should be prepared for the try outs following the season.

The evaluators for the try outs will be asked to select players with the complementary skill sets required to form a competitive team in all aspects of the game. This may entail asking the boys to try out for a specific position. Those wishing to try out with "long poles" will be permitted to do so.
