As April begins, construction on the new rink will begin to rapidly speed up as the weather becomes nicer and nicer. With a slated start date less than a month away (May 1), we've provided the following progress bar below to help illustrate how things are going on the rink's progress. The New Castle Community YMCA's newly re-built dek hockey rink will officially open on May 5th, and will be free to everyone to come and drop-in for the week. Also during the entire week, registration for program offerings will be available to the public.



Here's the schedule (for May 5-9 ONLY):

Monday, May 5th 2008:

Drop-In Skills Competition, 4:00-9:00pm

Program Registration (optional), 4:00-9:00pm



Tuesday, May 6th through Friday, May 9th:

Youth Hockey Drop-In, 4:00-6:00pm

Adult Foot Hockey Drop-In, 6:00-7:00pm

Adult Roller Hockey Drop-In, 7:00-9:00pm

Note: On Wednesday, May 21st 2008 at 5:30PM (at the New Castle YMCA) we will be hosting a hockey referee certification course taught by Gary Miller of the AAU / USARS. The cost of the course is $50 per person (required before the start of the course) and will not only include two years of certification in addition to other benefits. For more information on this course, please contact Jason Kmick by Monday, May 19th at the very latest by calling 724-658-4766. Consideration for individuals wanting to officiate league games at the New Castle rink who are certified will be given the utmost first consideration.

On Saturday, May 31st the official ribbon cutting ceremony will begin at 11:00AM to commemorate the community effort led by the New Castle YMCA to renovate our dek rink facility.



The final steps in the completion of the dek renovation are coming to a close, and to commemorate this event, we will be holding ribbon cutting ceremonies. Here is a schedule of events for the day:

Free adult pickup - 12:30-2:30PM

All players should be hearing from their prospective captains soon. Team names are subject to change and right now have temporary names that involve the color of their shirts. To make it easier on everyone, please be sure to bring your color shirt to every game.
