WEEK 7 POWER RANKINGS
We’re officially to the halfway point of the CCWA season and with the expansion Orioles finally getting caught up on their games it’s time for a new Power Rankings. We have slightly tweaked the formula to put more emphasis on the W/L record. Previously the highest “Power Number” a team could have was 70, now it is 100. A team with a perfect 100 would mean that they dominate at every aspect of wiffleball.
The Eastside Expos stay at number one in the rankings due to their amazing 14-0 start. The Red Sox jump back up to three and the Brew Crew settles in at 2.
Here we go.(previous rank in parantheses)
1. Eastside Expos (1)
The Expos started off hot and haven’t cooled down at all. “Book’em” Danno Sefner looks like the favorite for Cy Young right now. Omar Steinberg is absolutely murdering the ball at the plate and the rest of the team is playing all around good wiffleball. With another seven wins they will tie the 2007 Laurelhurst Pirates for the best start in CCWA history.
| AVG | HR | RBI | W/L | ERA | K | FLD% | PWR# |
| .296 | 30 | 110 | 14-0 | 1.40 | 204 | .962 | 95 |
2. Lexington Brewers (5)
The Brew Crew have heated up recently behind ROY candidate Kyle “Little League” Godinho’s pitching. They’ve lost a couple of close games but should easily make the playoffs where they hope to finish better than last year.
| AVG | HR | RBI | W/L | ERA | K | FLD% | PWR# |
| .278 | 10 | 83 | 8-4 | 2.88 | 131 | .951 | 75 |
3. Rose Valley Red Sox (8)
The Red Sox started off the season getting swept by Jackmove but have bounced back with some big wins. It will be interesting to see how they finish the season after losing Karlis Liepa. Mike Wilson is playing some great all-around wiffleball and could be a MVP contender.
| AVG | HR | RBI | W/L | ERA | K | FLD% | PWR# |
| .442 | 10 | 63 | 10-4 | 5.36 | 62 | .929 | 71 |
4. Gresham Yankees (3)
The Yankees haven’t cooled off yet. These guys are playing better than any new team in league history except for maybe the Expos. Their hitting has been there all year and the pitching is coming around. They could surprise some teams in the playoffs.
| AVG | HR | RBI | W/L | ERA | K | FLD% | PWR# |
| .363 | 19 | 143 | 8-6 | 9.00 | 50 | .941 | 62 |
5.(tie) Jackmove Giants (2)
Jackmove’s pitching has always been their strong point and it is once again this season. The duo of Scott Coleman and Matt Jones are one of the top rotations in the league. If their bats can get hot they could do some damage in the second half of the season.
| AVG | HR | RBI | W/L | ERA | K | FLD% | PWR# |
| .219 | 9 | 45 | 8-6 | 2.15 | 168 | .944 | 56 |
5.(tie) Cowlitz Cubs (6)
Josh Burckhardt is off to another good start and has carried the Cubbies at times. They’re looking like a playoff contender this year, it’ll be interesting to see what they do in the second half. Erik Williamson will be out for the rest of the season with a broken leg so they’ll need to find a reliable #2 starter.

| .301 | 6 | 76 | 9-5 | 5.60 | 78 | .901 | 56 |

WEEK 5 POWER RANKINGS
May 11, 2008 --
The Jackmove Giants have been on fire since they lost their Opening Day matchup with the Brewers. They've now won eight straight and have looked good doing it to jump to the #1 spot. With the Giants jumping to 1 both the Yanks and the Brew Crew drop a spot. A couple other teams trade places after five weeks of play.
Here we go.(previous rank)
1. Jackmove Giants (5)
Jackmove is on fire! Scott Coleman is probably the best pitcher in the Northern League right now. Matt Jones is top three. Together they are dominant. They haven't lost since Opening Day and currently have a eight game winning streak going.
| AVG | HR | RBI | W/L | ERA | K | FLD% | PWR# |
| .318 | 13 | 78 | 8-2 | 3.21 | 101 | .949 | 59* |
2. Vancouver Yankees (1)
Josh Burckhardt is once again proving that he is the best player in the CCWA. But with the Yankees missing a couple of weeks they drop a spot. They haven't been swept in a series since last season when the Pirates got them. They are the clear favorites in the Southern League.

| .342 | 13 | 52 | 6-1 | 1.09 | 58 | .911 | 48 |
3. Lexington Brewers (2)
The Brew Crew lost a little bit of their luster when they got swept by the Mariners last weekend. Denny King and Erik Guttormsen have both been hitting extremely well and should help this team challenge for a title.
| AVG | HR | RBI | W/L | ERA | K | FLD% | PWR# |
| .370 | 16 | 68 | 7-3 | 4.09 | 91 | .912 | 55 |

| .234 | 15 | 41 | 7-4 | 3.51 | 151 | .907 | 47 |
5.(tie) Rose Valley Red Sox (3)
The Red Sox continue to look impressive and should easily make the playoffs. Tony Liepa and Mike Wilson have both been pitching great and the whole team has been hitting well. They were recently swept by Jackmove which leads to them dropping a couple of spots.
| AVG | HR | RBI | W/L | ERA | K | FLD% | PWR# |
| .303 | 5 | 42 | 5-3 | 2.07 | 41 | .931 | 35 |

| .199 | 7 | 38 | 6-4 | 2.75 | 91 | .962 | 44 |

9. Gresham Braves (9)
Branden Bradford has stepped up as this teams number 1 pitcher and could possibly lead them to the playoffs. They have a couple of key series to make up against the Mets and Yankees. After those series we should have a better idea on this team's playoff chances.

WEEK 3 POWER RANKINGS
April 21, 2008 --
We've got a couple of weeks of some top-notch wiffleball under our belts so it's time for the latest installment of the Power Rankings. The one thing that really stands out is the Northern League has been better at batting while the Southern League has had some great pitching. It'll be interesting to see how the season plays out.
For season 3 I've added a stat called Power Number (PWR#). It's basically a rating of how well that particular team is doing against the rest of the league. The higher the number here the better, with a 70 being perfect.
Here we go.(previous rank)
1. Vancouver Yankees (1)
Josh Burckhardt is at it again. He's started the season off with six bombs to keep the Yankees at number 1. Josh Philpott has stepped up his pitching and has already pitched two great games. It'll be tough to beat these guys this year, you're going to have to bring your 'A' game.
| AVG | HR | RBI | W/L | ERA | K | FLD% | PWR# |
| .265 | 8 | 25 | 4-1 | 1.33 | 50 | .886 | 48 |
2. Lexington Brewers (2)
This team is playing some great wiffle this year and actually has the highest Power Number at 51. But they've only played four games and their next series is against the Rose Valley Red Sox who have shown that they can play. Rookie Denny King is off to perhaps the greatest start in league history at the plate. He's looking like the front runner for ROY.
| AVG | HR | RBI | W/L | ERA | K | FLD% | PWR# |
| .366 | 6 | 32 | 4-0 | 4.00 | 33 | .935 | 51 |
3. Rose Valley Red Sox (9)
The Sox have come out hot at the plate and on the mound. Tony Liepa has been as good as advertised. Rookie Mike Wilson has been downright nasty from the mound. This team could jump a couple more spots if they can knock of the Brewers this weekend.
| AVG | HR | RBI | W/L | ERA | K | FLD% | PWR# |
| .368 | 3 | 29 | 4-0 | 0.00 | 18 | .951 | 49 |
4. Couch St. Reds (5)
Dan Hurley has picked up right were he left off last season. Rookies Sam Fox and Casey Bradley have stepped right in and helped this team on the mound. They were the first team to hand the Yankees a loss this season and could build on that series. They have a key series upcoming with their Rivals, the Laurelhurst Pirates.
| AVG | HR | RBI | W/L | ERA | K | FLD% | PWR# |
| .241 | 3 | 29 | 4-2 | 3.47 | 60 | .956 | 50 |
5.(tie) Laurelhurst Pirates (3)
The Pirates have stumbled out of the gates with losses in both of the first two weeks. They're looking to bounce back behind Eric Keele's pitching, which has been top notch this season. If they can beat the Reds in an upcoming series look for them to possibly jump a couple of spots.
| AVG | HR | RBI | W/L | ERA | K | FLD% | PWR# |
| .206 | 3 | 15 | 3-2 | 3.65 | 66 | .812 | 32 |
5.(tie) Jackmove Giants (4)
Jackmove recently scored a CCWA record 49 runs in a two game series behind Matt Jones' five homeruns. It was just the series they needed after getting swept by the Brewers in week 1. They're hoping to build on that last series and work their way back up the rankings.
| AVG | HR | RBI | W/L | ERA | K | FLD% | PWR# |
| .431 | 11 | 56 | 2-2 | 8.33 | 25 | .939 | 44 |
7. Portland Royals (NR)
Pitchers Nick Mason and Wayne Miller look to lead this team. Both of them have started the season off with some good plate appearances and some great pitching. Look for the Royals to dominate the All-Beer team if they keep their partying ways up. Always a fun team to play against.
| AVG | HR | RBI | W/L | ERA | K | FLD% | PWR# |
| .188 | 5 | 31 | 2-4 | 3.89 | 57 | .885 | 38 |
8. Kelso Mariners (NR)
Reggie Williamson has this team right in the hunt for a playoff spot. They should only improve in a couple of weeks when Laura Marcil joins the squad. Rookie Cury Curnelian has been impressive at the plate so far in this early season.
| AVG | HR | RBI | W/L | ERA | K | FLD% | PWR# |
| .278 | 1 | 19 | 2-2 | 8.28 | 22 | .818 | 21 |
9. Gresham Braves (NR)
Branden Bradford has been great so far in this early season. After a surprising win over the Pirates in week 2 it looks like this team is for real. Kyle Schulz should start to excel with the bat and from the mound. Both Dave Gunderson and Todd Schulz have looked good at the plate.
| AVG | HR | RBI | W/L | ERA | K | FLD% | PWR# |
| .107 | 0 | 5 | 2-2 | 6.00 | 32 | .861 | 11 |
10. Quizno's Indians (6)
This team has gotten off to an extremely slow start and they need to turn things around if they want any chance at the playoffs. Garrett Booth has been the one bright spot, showing a decent stick at the plate.
| AVG | HR | RBI | W/L | ERA | K | FLD% | PWR# |
| .111 | 1 | 8 | 0-4 | 7.71 | 22 | .933 | 14 |

SEASON 3 POWER RANKINGS
With the start of season 3 still two months away, here is the first pre-season look at the Power Rankings for the CCWA. We'll be ranking the top ten teams this year.(previous rank)
1. Vancouver Yankees (formerly Penguins) (2)
After winning the CCWA Championship last year as the Penguins, this team is a favorite to repeat in 2008. Their whole lineup returns for season 3 including last year's Player of the Year Josh Burckhardt. Erik Williamson and Josh Philpott will also be back to defend the title. Look for this team to once again lead the league in offense.
| AVG | HR | RBI | W/L | ERA | K | FLD% |
| .384 | 26 | 108 | 30-6 | 2.88 | 153 | .873 |
2. Lexington Brewers (1)
After almost winning the Championship last season by going all five games against the Penguins, this team went out and signed the top two free agents on the market. Ty Baker and Erik Guttormsen join a lineup that already included Northern MVP Timmy Kramer, Jim Hewey, Phil Shero and Brian Eyer. They are the favorite in the Northern League.
| AVG | HR | RBI | W/L | ERA | K | FLD% |
| .310 | 14 | 145 | 29-8 | 3.57 | 191 | .921 |
3. Laurelhurst Pirates (3)
The Pirates had another great season but were stopped by a very good Penguin team in the playoffs. Rookie Jeremy Emerson is rumored to be one of the best right-handed pitchers the league will see. Cy Young winner Eric Keele was dominant from the mound all last season and should continue to improve from both the mound and the plate. South MVP Ed Bert is going to be leaving the team to move to Hawaii. Look for this team to bounce back strong next season and challenge for a playoff spot.
| AVG | HR | RBI | W/L | ERA | K | FLD% |
| .304 | 24 | 141 | 28-8 | 2.93 | 186 | .896 |
4. Jackmove Giants (4)
Possibly the best pitching team in the CCWA, Jackmove finished the season strong to go into the playoffs against the Brewers. They barely lost the closest playoff series in CCWA history, narrowly missing a return trip to the CCWA Championships. Look for them to come back strong next season behind pitchers Zac Warren and Matt Jones.
| AVG | HR | RBI | W/L | ERA | K | FLD% |
| .251 | 14 | 60 | 27-10 | 4.66 | 215 | .882 |
5. Couch St. Reds (formerly Wizards) (5)

| AVG | HR | RBI | W/L | ERA | K | FLD% |
| .278 | 10 | 65 | 26-8 | 4.17 | 63 | .912 |
6. Quizno's Indians (8)
This team could've made some noise if they could've gotten their roster in shape. Look for the majority of their team to return and compete for a playoff spot. The Booth brothers will team up with Ryan Anderson and Avish Bhalani to provide a potent lineup.
| AVG | HR | RBI | W/L | ERA | K | FLD% |
| .242 | 9 | 46 | 16-18 | 6.85 | 126 | .876 |
7. Cowlitz Cubs (formerly the Wiffleball Furies) (10)
After disappearing at the end of last season, Tyler Johnson stepped up and took control of this team. He convinced Justin Johnson to return and signed Kelle Ogden from the now-defunt Femme Fatales. This team could possibly challenge for the Wild Card. They are set to play in the toughest division in the league.
| AVG | HR | RBI | W/L | ERA | K | FLD% |
| .273 | 8 | 39 | 5-29 | 12.20 | 72 | .850 |
8. Rose City Padres (NR)
This team has playoff experience and could compete in a recently expanded Southern League. They'll have a tough rival in their division with the Yankees also playing in the South-West.
9. Rose Valley Red Sox (NR)
Tony "Ducky" Liepa leads this new team into the CCWA. With his brother Karlis also playing for the Sox they should compete for the playoff spot in the North-West.
10. Toutle Angels(NR)
Matt Bailey leaves the Brewers to start his own team. Former Pirate Tim Davis joins his team along with a couple of blue-chip prospect rookies who are rumored to be amazing batters.

Compiled according to last season's stats, this season's rosters and pre-season evaluations. Here's where all the teams stand with two weeks left until the season starts. (previous rank)
1. Laurelhurst Pirates (1)
Defending CCWA Champions. With last season's Homerun Derby Champion Erik Guttormsen joining this lineup expect the Pirates to score a lot of runs. Rookie Eric Keele should make an immediate impact at the plate for this team. It will be interesting to see how this team fares with the losses of Tony Liepa (DL) and TJ McNeely.

| .276 | 21 | 87 | 17 | 2.84 | 117 |

Widely considered to be the best of the new teams in the Southern Division. This team is led by team captain Matt Schaper who can hit, pitch and field. Josh Burckhardt could be one of the top hitters in the league. Josh Philpott is a natural athlete. "Chilly Willie" Williamson crushes the ball with so much authority that we will most likely test him for steroids in the upcoming season. Look for this team to compete for a playoff spot.
