Status update on the new Pioneer field

“Fielding our Pioneer Pride”

Here is an update on the fantastic new field and cheer building to be built behind the new Walmart for our Pioneer athletes!  As you know, the township has been very generous in letting the Pioneers lease the land and the building for a nominal fee.

Although a small committee of volunteers has been formed to focus on fundraising to pay for and maintain the new Pioneer field, we need your help. We understand and appreciate the financial demands that have been placed on the Pioneer families in the past and the kind and generous support you have always offered to our fund raising efforts.  We are formulating new plans to include seeking corporate sponsorships, local business support and reaching out to the town and Pioneer alumni for assistance.   We appreciate any assistance you can offer in obtaining corporate sponsorship from local businesses.

The builder will begin work on the cheer building’s “shell” shortly.  Also, scheduled to begin is the  grading of the field itself.  The land must be cleared, leveled and seeded.  Following the land preparation, we will purchase lights and fencing. These are our short-mid term goals. Longer term goals would be to build a permanent snack shack and to complete the cheer building’s interior.  The hope is to have the field and the building ready for all practices and games by the 2010 season.

We know that many of you have been affected by the downturn in the economy.  That is true for the Pioneer organization as well.  We have a large requirement for funding over the next 1-3 years to prepare the field.  We have applied for a loan from a local bank to help fund the construction and lighting requirements for the new field.

Over the coming months, we will update you on our fundraising efforts.  We hope that you might find ways to help with these efforts so that we can achieve our ultimate dream…"Fielding our Pioneer Pride”!!

November 11, 2008  --

On Monday, November 10, 2008 the Raritan Township Committee unanimously voted to approve an ordinance to allow the Pioneers to enter into a 25 year lease agreement (with 5 year renewals thereafter) with the Township to build a full, regulation size football game field as well as a smaller practice field. This land will also house an 8,000 + sq ft building that we will share with the Flemington Food Pantry. Our plan is to house our Cheer program in the building right by our field!

Thank you to all our Pioneer families who took the time to attend the November 10 meeting, your presence truly made a difference. And, thank you to the many families who over the past few years have lent their support to this cause.

We also ask that you please remember to thank the Raritan Township Committee, John Kendzulak, Rich O'Malley, Richard Kuhrt, Chris Harcar, John Belardo, led by Mayor John King, for their support in this process.

Thanks also to James Humphries, Township Planner, and Fred Coppola, Township Engineer, for answering our many questions along the way.

Last but certainly not least, each and every one of our present and future Pioneers owe a huge debt of gratitude to George Dilts, Esq. of Dilts & Koester in Flemington for legally representing our organization as a community service. We would not have been able to succeed without Mr. Dilts' expertise and generosity.

THANK YOU!
