Get your Popcorn ready, cause these girls are about to put on a Show!!!
The Groove hitting coaches stress being aggressive at the plate. Some hitting coaches talk about picking the right pitch to hit. The Groove hitting coach stress timing and confidence. We don't worry about the ball being a strike or ball. If we can get our bat on the ball we are going after it. We have had plenty of hits that were not strikes. We don't care where you pitch us. We are going after it and if we can get our bats on the ball we are swinging.

Bomb Squad Tips
#8 French Fry
Tips from the Groove hitters.
1. A hitter that walks up to the plate knowing they are going to be successful has already won the battle.
2. The STRIKE ZONE is for pitchers and umpires. The batter's zone is anything they can get their bats on. Plenty of hits come from balls that are out of the strike zone.
3. Hands to the ball is a nice phrase to help beginners but knowing where the barrel of the bat is and getting the barrel of the bat to the ball is one of the keys to hitting.
4. Timing is another key that pitchers try to destoy. One of the greatest abilities a pitcher can have is varying speed. A batter that times the pitch will overcome a lot of other flaws.
5. Don't follow the ball to the glove like you were told a million times by dads when you are growing up. Follow the ball to where you want to make contact, make contact, then follow the ball to where you hit it. Following the ball to the catchers mitt means you are missing the ball but more importantly it makes it difficult to rotate your shoulders and hips properly.

6. Many hitters shift their weight from back leg to front leg. How far you shift depends on the type of hit you are looking for. If you want a powerful swing you must keep the head behind the front foot. It keeps the weight from going too far forward and losing the power. If you want to bunt for a hit or slap then it's ok to move the head over and even in ahead of the front foot. When slapping and bunting for a hit you don't care about the power so the head in front helps with your speed.
7. Hands close to the body vs away from the body. Do both. Hands close to the body for an outside pitch and hands away from the body on the inside pitch gives too much advantage to the pitcher. You have to be able to move the hands in both directions. The key to solid hits is the ability to get the meat of the barrel of the bat on the center of the ball. Start with the hands where they are comfortable to you (usually close to the body) then move the barrel to the ball.
8. Timing the pitch starts in ON DECK CIRCLE. Start by being much too early and slow the start of your swing until your timing is perfect. It's much easier to slow your timing down than it is to speed it up. Be careful that you don't slow down the speed of your swing too. Keep the swing strong, just adjust when it starts.
9. Don't let the ball stop your bat. The ball is coming at a high speed and can actually stop the movement of the bat. Keep strong wrists at point of contact and swing through the ball.
10. Good hip rotation starts at the feet, then moves to the knees. The back foot has to turn so the back knee can turn in. The front foot has to turn or roll over so the front knee can turn out. Without those moves your hips are going to have a hard time getting in the proper position to give you the power you are looking for.
