Stick Length *Updated* - From SMYLA (Spring League) 2009 rules:
"U9 allows for all players to have a minimum stick length of 36", including the head".
"U11 allows for all players to have a stick length of 40"-44", including the head".
"U13 & U15 allows for Attack-man and Middies to have a stick length of 40"-42", including the head".
"U13 & U15 allows for Defensivemen to have a stick length of 52"-72", including the head".
"U13 & U15 allows for Goalies to have a stick length of 40"-72", including the head".
It is an important element of the game to learn to protect your stick while cradling the ball. Obviously if the stick is too short, it could ultimately hinder an athletes development. If the stick is too long for the athlete, it will be very frustrating and could discourage him from the sport of lacrosse.

BUYING A GIRLS STICK
Many coaches and parents have found the Stick Buying Guide link below very useful. It will take you to an very informative Longstreth article about buying Girls Lacrosse sticks. Longstreth continues to be one of our most ardent supporters. Please do all you can to support them too!

Be sure to get a girls stick. Boys’ sticks have large mesh pockets, girls sticks do not. Look for a stick with an “offset” head.(see pic at the bottom of the page) If you look at the stick from the side, an offset head dips down, allowing for a deeper ball set… easier to catch and hold onto. The non-offset heads are straight across, and do not allow for as deep a pocket. All sticks come one length… they are cut down to fit the players’ size. Do not buy the “shorty” sticks… they’re not very good!
