Please make checks out to "RBBYS."
I left a message on the league line. Why has no one returned my call?
At peak times of the season, there are more than 20 messages left on our voicemail in one day! RBBYS operates solely on parent volunteers. We are regular working moms and dads with busy schedules who have children with busy schedules, just like you. We respect the fact that your question is important, and we will try to get your calls directed to the proper person and returned in a timely manner if at all possible. Your patience and understanding in this matter is much appreciated.
Is there another way to get my questions answered?
Yes, through E-mail. In the Menu section of the web site, click on "Contact Info." This will give you e-mail addresses of league officers and board members to whom you wish to direct your questions.
When does the basketball season begin?
Practices for grades K-8 usually begin in mid-October if facilities are available. Games for the 2009 season are tentatively set to start around November 10 or 17.
Your child’s team will practice one night through the week and on Saturdays until games start. Once games start your child’s team will only practice on Saturdays. RBBYS highly encourages coaches to continue the Saturday practices throughout the season.
What days and times are the games played?
Game times this year will be 6:00 and 7:15. Games are normally played on random weeknights, Monday through Thursday. There may be an ocassional Saturday game.
What if I need the practice and game schedule now to see if it will interfere with our family schedule?
Our staff understands that today's families are very busy (including ours!) but it is not possible to create a practice and game schedule until we know how many children have signed up and the number of teams we will have in each league. Practices and games are scheduled on various nights of the week and Saturday so chances are you may encounter a conflict at some point.
What about bad weather?
If there is inclement weather you can call the league weather line at 876-5010. Your coach may call with additional information regarding a make up date. NOTE: If school is canceled due to a snow day, we will not be permitted to use the school gym that evening.
When will I find out what team my child will play on?
The league has sign ups in September. If your child is enrolled at any of the three local elementary schools they will bring home a registration form in their Friday folders. (Jr. High and High School students will have forms available in the school offices.) After try-outs are complete, the coaches get together and have a draft. This usually happens the week following tryouts. After the draft is complete your child’s coach should contact you within a few days. He/she should at that time be able to inform you of the team practice times.
Can my child be placed on a team with one of their friends?
Richland Bean Blossom Youth Sports can not accept specific requests to be with friends, with the exception of parents asking for siblings to be together. This is due to the player selection process of the draft. The leagues are created using a balanced draft process that helps promote even and competitive leagues.
Does my child have to attend tryouts?
All children must attend tryouts (except the K-1st Grade league.) If your child does not attend tryouts they can not be drafted by a coach; instead they will be selected by a blind draw at the end of the draft. Ultimately each child will be assigned to a team. No child will ever be "cut."
If my child is unhappy with the team they are placed on, can they switch teams?
No, RBBYS does not allow children to switch teams.
If my child decides to quit, is it possible to get a refund?
Sorry, the fees are not refundable for any reason after you have registered. This is clearly printed on the registration forms.
Are the coaches and board members paid?
No. All coaches and board members volunteer their time for the children of our community. The only paid positions are the umpires and referees.
Can I keep my child down in a lower division or bring him/her up a division a year early?
RBBYS strongly supports age appropriate competition and development. RBBYS does allow players to try out for a league higher than their age/grade. The child MUST attend BOTH the try out for his age group as well as the league he wants to move up to. The coaches then have an opportunity to draft the child in the higher league if they wish. If he/she is not drafted in the higher league he/she will be drafted in their age appropriate league. The only time an adjustment may be made to let a child play in a lower league is when there is a safety risk and all requests must be made (prior to try outs) in writing to the Board of Directors.
Are there any rules of conduct?
Yes--absolutely! RBBYS does not tolerate foul language or taunting at any level by players, parents, coaches or spectators. There will be one warning, then the person involved will be ejected from the premises and may be banned from the venues for the rest of the season. There is no alcohol allowed and PLEASE do not use tobacco on school property.
Who do I contact if I have a problem that needs to be resolved by the league?
If you ever have a problem or concern you can click the CONTACT INFO icon located on the "menu" column of this web site. There you will find email addresses and/or phone numbers for current board members. You can also call our business line at 876-5009 and leave a message.
