Our U6 league is for beginning soccer players with ages of 4 and 5 as of July 31, 2011. We have boys and girls teams. Games are played against teams from Sierra Oaks, Arden Park and St. Ignatius soccer clubs. The games are played at 5:00 PM on Friday evenings at Sierra Oaks School, Cresta Park, St. Ignatius School and Mariemont School, with occasional games at Edison School. Directions to the fields can be found under the 'Directions' link on the main page.
At the U6 age level, the players aren't the only ones learning a new sport. While the Referees have been through a certified training class, they are usually just beginning their careers at this level. And no matter how much soccer experience first time parents have, they usually learn as much about youth soccer as their kids do.
The top priority in U6 soccer is to have fun. Everything else will take care of itself. Make sure to read the Rules for U6 games and contact your coach or the Club Manager if you have any questions.
The 2011 Under 6 season will begin Friday September 9th, and end Friday October 28. All U6 games are played on Friday evenings.

U6 Boys and Girls Rules 2011
Sierra Oaks, St. Ignatius, Arden Park
Coaches, please feel free to share this info with the parents.
Home team is responsible for center referee {$10}, (home team listed first on schedule) Sierra Oaks referees are compensated by the club. Coaches should not pay Sierra Oaks referees. Sideline asst referees are parent volunteers, call in/out only.
Coaches please make sure each player plays at least half the match, and there should be 5 players on the field for each team. There are no goalkeepers in u6. The offside rule is not used.
Sportsmanship is always important, and at this level with many young and inexperienced soccer players, success is defined not by counting the number of goals scoredÖ in fact, except for the referee, the teams should avoid keeping score. Although we have tried to rank the teams and schedule younger/newer teams in the same brackets, there is a chance with some matches the teams will be uneven. If there is a clearly dominant team, check in with the referee and ask to add players to the field for the weaker team, or if you have the stronger team reduce the number of players temporarily. Also, if one team is short players, the other team may consider reducing their numbers on the field accordingly.
On Cresta (1,2) and St. Ignatius (1,2) matches are played across the field not the length of the field, with goals marked by cones or flags, the goal width is 15 feet. The other fields such as Winterstein, Mariemont, and Edison use the permanent goals and the entire field as marked.
Referee chooses which side/kickoff for each team, and teams swap ends at the half. Games are 10 minute quarters, with a one minute break at quarter and a five minute break at half, for a total of 40 minutes of game time.
Only licensed coaches may enter the field, and/or coach from the sidelines. Coaches and parents may not stand at the end of the fields near the goals.
Referees are encouraged to demonstrate/teach the players where to take a throw in, kick off, etc.
THERE ARE NO GOALKEEPERS IN U6 SOCCER. NO PLAYER MAY USE THEIR HANDS, EXCEPT ON THROW-INS. NO PLAYER MAY STAND IN FRONT OR IMMEDIATELY NEAR THE GOAL, UNLESS THE BALL IS THERE, IN PLAY.
