BLUE GAME HIGHLIGHTS

June 28 – Springfield Blue 12 – Westbrook Park 3

Dennis Giaquinto gave Springfield a lift in their second game on a hot Sunday as he pitched a complete game 1 hitter with 9 K’s.  Only 1 run was earned as Springfield defeated Westbrook Park 12 – 3.  Giaquinto was also in a groove at the plate with a single, a double, 3 RBI’s and 2 runs scored.  Denny completed the show with a nifty bare handed catch over his shoulder to end the 4th inning.  Blue exploded for 12 hits with Ryan Smith going 3-4.  Mike Baksi had 2 runs scored and 3 RBI’s off a single and double that was smoked to left.  Ryan Thomas had 2 RBI”s off 2 singles and a delayed steal of 3rd that led to a run scored.  Lead off hitter Dave Pecunia was on base 3 times and had 2 runs scored and an RBI.  Kyle Pappa remained hot in the 5 hole going 2 for 3 with an RBI.  Chris Desiderio was 1 for 1 with and RBI single and a run scored off of a walk.  Defensively, Ryan Smith made a couple of great plays on shots hit to 3rd while Pecunia-Thomas-Pappa turned two 6-4-3 double plays.

June 28 – Springfield Blue 0 – Briarcliff 3
Springfield out hit Briarcliff 6 – 1 but the numbers that counted most weren’t there as they fell 3-0 and saw their 4 game win streak come to an end.  Bob Bolye gave Blue a gutsy performance and a chance to win as he settled down after a shaky 2nd inning to go the distance and strike out 8 and yielding only 1 hit.  Blue battled hard, only striking out 4 times and picking up 6 hits against a strong pitcher in Jim Carabrese but couldn’t put it all together.  Dave Pecunia had 2 hits while Kyle Pappa, Mike Baksi, Matt Judge, and Matt Culbertson each had one.

June 27 – Springfield Blue 6 – Lansdowne 1
Tim Finnegan came up big for Springfield as he pitched the complete game scattering 4 hits and striking out 7.  Finnegan also was hot at the plate with 2 singles, an RBI, and a run scored.   Springfield trailed 1-0 into the 4th inning when Bob Bole led off with a single and stole second to get into scoring position.  The steal proved unnecessary as Dennis Giaquinto bombed a home run to the parking lot in center field.  Blue struck again in the 6th inning by a Boyle sacrifice fly that scored Alex Jeffers.  Dennis Giaquinto doubled to right field and Matt Fuchsel who came in as a courtesy runner scored on some aggressive base running.  Kyle Pappa beat out an infield single and Fuchsel scored as the ball got past the 1st basemen.  Ryan Thomas also had a knock in the game to complete Blue’s 7 hit day.  Matt Judge had a big play from left field when he gunned down a Lansdowne runner at the plate to end the first inning

June 25 – Springfield Blue 6 – Ridley Park 2
Springfield scored 4 runs in the top of the 2nd and never looked back as they went on to defeat Ridley Park 6-2.  Matt Fuchsel was 2 for 2 with an RBI, a run, and a sacrifice bunt to lead Springfield’s offense in the win.  Chris Bertolino had a single, smacked a double, and scored a run for Blue.  Kyle Pappa also had an RBI, a run scored, and 2 singles.  Alex Jeffers a key 2 out single in the 2nd inning to plate 2 runs.  Tim Finnegan, Chris Desiderio, and Bob Boyle also had hits.  Dennis Giaquinto (5 K’s) worked the first 3 innings and Bob Bolye (7 K’s) pitched the last 4 to combine for the win.

June 22 – Springfield Blue 4 – Ridley Park 1
Chris Desiderio pitched a great game striking out 11 and going the distance for the victory.  Blue opened the scoring in the bottom of the 4th when Bob Boyle crushed a lead off triple and was knocked in off a single by Kyle Pappa.  Boyle had a sacrifice fly RBI in the 5th inning knocking in Matt Culbertson who was safe on an error, stole 2nd, and advanced to 3rd on a fielder’s choice.  Dennis Giaquinto followed with an RBI single knocking in Alex Jeffers who was on base all 3 times with walks.  Kyle Pappa delivered a lead off double in the 6th inning but was left stranded.

June 21 – Springfield Blue 5 – West Chester 2

Dennis Giaquinto returned from the DL and made a splash with a single and 2 triples, 3 RBI’s and 2 runs scored.  Chris Bertolino had 2 hits and knocked in the other 2 runs as Blue defeated West Chester 5-2.  Tim Finnegan (3 innings) and Bob Boyle who got the win (4 innings 8 K’s) each gave up just one hit and one run   Chris Desiderio doubled while  Matt Fuchsel, Boyle, Matt Judge, and Ryan Thomas each had hits to complete the offense for Springfield.  Great defense by Matt Judge who threw a stike home from left field to hold a runner on 3rd, Alex Jeffers who made a diving catch in center, and Ryan Smith who through out a runner at the plate from right field to end the game.

June 13 – Springfield Blue 1 – Briarcliff 2

Springfield broke a 0-0 tie in the top of the 6th when Charlie Small led off with a double, stole 3rd, and scored on an overthrow but could not hold the lead as Briarcliff rallied for 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th.  Charlie Small pitched great, working the final 5 innings and striking out 9 but was victimized by the baseball Gods when a broken bat single tied the game and a bloop single over 1st won it.  Ryan Smith was the offensive standout for Blue with 2 doubles and a single.  Chris Bertolinio also doubled and singles were delivered by Dave Pecunica and Kyle Pappa against Degalbo, one of the leagues best pitchers.

June 9 – Springfield Blue 7 – Westbrook Park 2

Bob Boyle went the distance for the win and also did it at the plate with a single, double and 3 RBI’s.  Mike Baksi had a pair of hits and 2 runs scored.  Kyle Pappa, Ryan Thomas, and Charlie Small also contributed singles.  Patience was the name of the game as Blue cussioned a 2-1 lead in the top of the 6th thanks to 5 walks in the inning.  RBI’s were delivered by Tim Finnegan, Ryan Smith, and Kyle Pappa

June 8 – Springfield Blue 3 – Lansdowne 4

Blue took a 3 – 2 lead in the bottom of the 6th but couldn’t hold it as Lansdowne scored twice in the top of the 7th for the win.  Chris Desiderio pitch a strong 6 1/3 innings with 10 K’s allowing just 3 runs (2 earned).  Good pitching by Lansdowne limited Sprignfield to just 5 scattered singles on the day by Chris Bertolino (RBI), Kyle Pappa, Matt Culbertson, Ryan Thomas, and Bob Bolye.  Alex Jeffers had a sac fly RBI as well.

June 7 – Springfield Blue 11 – Clifton Heights 3

Dennis Giaquinto pitched a solid 6 innings allowing just 3 earned runs but defensive miscues cost him the win.  Giaquinto also singled and trippled.  Dave Pecunia had a pair of hits while Bob Boyle and Ryan Smith each had a double and a single.

May 31 – Springfield Blue 4 – Norwood 3
Matt Judge had the game winning hit in the top of the sixth as he stroked a single to plate Bob Boyle who had singled to lead off the inning. Tim Finnegan was the winning pitcher working 4 strong innings and leaving the game with a 3-2 lead. Charlie Small pitched strong in the final 3 innings to earn the save. Boyle also scored in the top of the 2nd off a smash double by Kyle Pappa. Justin Coyne singled moving Pappa to 3rd followed by Chris Bertolino who delivered an rbi knock. Dave Pecunica came throug with a 2 out basehit to score Coyne and complete the 3 run inning. Great defense by Kyle Pappa who was in the middle of a double and tripple play got Blue out of jams. Norwood already had 1 run in in the bottom of the 4th with runners on 2nd and 3rd and no outs when 3rd baseman Dennis Giaquinto fielded a grounder, checked the runner, and trew to 1st for the out. The baseman broke for home on the throw and Pappa made a strong throw to Mike Baksi at the plate to catch him in a rundown. Finnegan ended up appling the tag and threw to Small covering 3rd for the final out. Baksi also came up big behind the plate picking off a baserunner in the game.

July 22 – Springfield Blue 3 – Springfield Gold 2

Bob Boyle pitched 6 1/3 innings striking out 11 to gain the victory. Charlie Small stranded the tieing run on base as he struck out the two batters he faced for the save. Boyle also blasted a double and scored a run in support of his mound effort. Alex Jeffers was on base all three times and scored two runs for Blue. Blue trailed 2-1 in the top of the 7th when Kyle Pappa was able to hit a tailing single to right field to score two. Mark Anenucci, Nick Kemmey, and Tom McFeeley were equally impressive for Gold on the mound as they only allowed two hits in the game.
