Sting 93 placed third out of eleven 16U Elite League teams at the state tournament qualifier on July 12 and 13 in Buffalo. In the first game, Sting redeemed two June losses to the Cottage Grove Wolfpack by defeating them 4 - 1. In game two, the 93's shut out the Twin Cities Twisters 4 - 0.
In the third game on Saturday, it was Hastings who avenged their early-season loss to the Sting in the Rookies tournament by shutting out the 93's 9 - 0 in five innings. Sunday's game was a nail-biter against the Northern Extreme. The Extreme had a 1 - 0 lead going into the top of the sixth when the Sting tied the game on a long double to left center. But with two outs in the bottom of the sixth, the Extreme drove a two-run homer over the left field fence to win the game.
Sting 93's season record now stands at 33 - 11. The girls play warm-up games against Bloomington and Sting 92 on Wednesday before heading into this weekend's state tournament in Ham Lake. After the State Tournament, Sting 93 heads to Indiana on the 21st to face their first 14U competition of the year at the NAFA National Tournament in Crown Point (just south of Gary).
Congratulations girls on a great season so far and good luck at state and nationals!

93's Place First at Colorado Classic
June 30, 2008 --
On Sunday, June 29, the Sting took first place in their pool at the 16U Colorado Classic in Fort Collins (the Classic is a simple round-robin tournament in which teams are grouped into six-team pools - there is no bracket play). Sting 93 won their first four games of the tournament defeating the Cincy Storm, Fort Collins Stars, California Tornadoes, and Northern (Illinois) Ice to clinch first place. Four different Sting players hit over-the-fence homeruns in the tournament. It was an outstanding effort by the 14U Sting 93's to win against top national 16U competition. Congratulations girls on a great tournament!

Sting Win Lakeville Grand Slam Tournament
June 9, 2008 --
On Sunday, June 15 Sting 93 defeated Omaha Sizzle Red 3 - 0 to claim the championship of the 24-team Lakeville Grand Slam Tournament. The win was the team's third shutout in the six games played. Overall, the Sting outscored their opponents 55 - 5.
The Sting had two homeruns in their 12 - 1 semifinal victory over New Prague giving the team four "over-the-fencers" for the tournament. Their first bracket play game was a 6 - 3 quarterfinal win against Spring Lake Park. The team had a first-round bye as a result of winning their pool on Saturday.
Sting 93 opened the tournament on Friday, June 13 with a win over Lakeville Ice-Olson by a score of 8 - 0. On Saturday, Sting beat Cottage Grove-Harden 16 - 1 and Wayzata-Higbee 10 - 0. Against Wayzata, the Sting started the game off with a homerun over the left field fence. Then, three batters later, the Sting drilled another homerun - this time over the center field fence. Both games Saturday were ended after the fourth inning by the tournament's 10-run rule.
Winning the 16U title in Lakeville was a nice achievement for the 14U 93's whose next tournament will be in Colorado for the 16U Sparkler.

Sting 93 Take Second at Rookies Tournament
June 8, 2008 --
Sting 93 played excellent softball on Sunday, June 8, to claim second place in the 16U "A" division of the Harding Rookies Tournament in St. Paul. The Sting shut out MN Irish Carlson in the quarterfinal game to win 2 - 0. In the semifinal, Sting 93 shut out Hastings for the first six innings before giving up a meaningless run in the seventh to win the game 2 - 1. In the finals against 16U State Champions, MN Irish Hahn, Sting 93 again played well, but came up short by a score of 4 - 2 in six innings.
The Rookies tournament draws the state's very top 16U teams and a second place finish was quite an accomplishment for our 14U Sting 93's. Congratulations girls!
