1st Day of PRACTICE: Monday, August 10th, 6-8 - Tyngsboro High School Fields

August Practice Nights:  Mon./Tues./Weds./Thurs.  6-8 - THS Fields

Jamboree Date:   Saturday, August 29th - Clinton - Time TBD

First Game:  Saturday, September 5th - Still Waiting on Game Schedule
*Games will be played every week, including holiday weekends.  With the exception of Labor Day Weekend's game and the weekend of our local cheer competition (10/17 & 18), most games will be played on Sunday’s and are both home and away.  Our schedule is not yet available and probably will not be until mid-August.

FUNCOMP:  Sunday, October 11th
FunComp is a Cheer Competition hosted by a town in the AYF, Central Mass league.  There is a Judging Panel to score the teams as would be done in an ‘official’ competition, however the scores do not count towards the National competition.   It is a fun day for all the cheerleaders and gives them the competition practice they will need for the real thing.  This year Shrewsbury will be hosting the FUNComp.   All of our cheer teams will participate.

LOCAL CHEER COMPETITION:   Saturday, October 17th
All cheerleading levels will compete in this competition which will be held in Lowell, MA at the Tsongas Arena.  With the exception of the Mitey Mite Teams, teams have the opportunity to 'place' so that they can move onto the Regional Cheer Competition.

REGIONAL CHEER COMPETITION:  November 21st (tentative date)
Winners of the local Cheer competition will move forward to the regional competition.   All teams will be eligible except for the Mighty Mite Division.  In 2009 this Regional comptition will take place in Connecticut     Teams that place 1st or 2nd in their division in this competition will than move onto the Nationals, which are usually held during the first or second week of December in Florida.

Additonal Rules/Important Information:

  • Please make sure to have all your paperwork in. Each cheer squad has a team mom that will keep track of your paperwork. They will be available to take paperwork the first night of practice.   Any cheerleader that does not have all required paperwork will be required to sit out any practice until it is received. NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • Once school starts practices will drop down to 3 nights a week of practice for all teams EXCEPT the Mitey Mites.   Mitey Mites will drop down to 2 nights a week.  Your head coach will let you know nights/times.
  • PARENTS: You must pick-up your child behind the school – We will not let them walk out to the parking lot by themselves at 8:00 and PLEASE be on-time!!!!   Also, please do NOT Drive behind the building for pick-up. Once we move indoors, we ask that you come into the building to pick them up.  Please note that should you choose to bring siblings into the gym, a parent must accompany them at ALL times and we have been asked that everyone stay in the gym at all times and not roam the halls.   Also, siblings that have cleats or muddy shoes MUST take them off before entering the schools.  Thank you for helping keep our costs minimal by following these rules :-)
  • Dress comfortable for practices in shorts, t-shirt, & sneakers
  • Please pull your hair back into a pony-tail to keep it off your face.
  • Please be sure to remove all jewelry and nail polish ~ they are not allowed
  • Its hot ~ please remember to bring your water bottle.
  • The schools are not open for us to use during the warm weather, please remember to use the bathroom at home before practice (there is a porta-potty).
  • We will move into the school to use the gyms and mats somtime in September.
  • As the weather gets cooler, cheerleaders can wear their bodysuits under their uniforms.  They can also wear sweatpants/gym pants (BLACK ONLY- so we all match.)   I leave it up to you to wear them if you want.  Coaches will NOT be calling everyone before each game.  It is O.K. if some cheerleaders have on sweatpants and some do not.  I would rather everyone be comfortable.

This year (2009) we have specific items that must be worn for cheering.  Cheerleaders must be completely uniform in style/color, etc so it is imperative that you follow the rules below in outfitting your cheerleader:

Uniforms:    BRAND NEW Uniforms Will be given out Weds. August 12th.  We will distribute them to a parent ONLY - because you must sign off on them. Uniforms must be returned at the end of the season in good, clean, dry condition. Cheerleaders are responsible for their uniforms. If not returned parents and/or cheerleaders are responsible for its replacement.   This year we are asking that you do not put the uniforms in the dryer after you wash them.  We have been told that they will retain their shape and last longer if we do not dry them.    (Please do not allow your child to drink any beverages that will stain while wearing their uniform.   Have them put a coat/sweatshirt over them when they eat or drink while in uniform.)

Bloomers/Boy Shorts:   For  your convenience, the vendor (Dancer's Closet) will be at the Weds., August 12th practice from 6:30 to 8:30 to take orders for boy shorts. The dancer's closet can accept checks or cash if you order at practice.  These need to be worn under the skirt. They must be purchased through The Dancer's Closet, 112 Daniel Webster Hwy, Nashua (603) 888-6700.  (You can either place your order at the 8/12 practice or you can go to their store.  If you go to their store they will accept credit cards too.)  Please mention you’re from Tyngsboro Youth Cheer so, they can direct you to the correct style and we have a discounted rate.  The color is red, the style is a 'boy short'  and the price should be around the $9.50 range with sizes available from 6x/7 through Adult Medium.  These are required by Aug. 29th which is the Jamboree.  (If you purchased one in 2008 and it still fits, you may continue to use that one.)  .

Bodysuit:  For your convenience the vendor (Dancer's Closet) will be at the Weds., August 12th practice from 6:30 - 8:30 to take orders for the bodysuits. This needs to be worn under uniform in cold weather and at the competition. You can purchase them at The Dancer's Closet as well.   The color is white and  price will be approximately $24.50 for Adult sizes (XS, S,M) and $22.00 for Child's sizes 6/7 through 12/14).  These are required no later then October 11th- for our FunComp however you will probably want to purchase them in advance to wear during the cooler games.   Again, you can either purchase this at the 8/12 practice and pay with cash/check or you can go to the Dancer's Closet store.  (At the store they will also accept credit cards.)  Please let the Dancer's Closet know that you are with TYFC so that you get the correct price and the correct style.  (These are also the same style that was worn in 2008, if you have one from last year that was purchased from The Dancer's Closet and still fits and is in great condition, please continue using it.)

Cheer Shoes:    We  will be using the same cheer shoe that we used during the 2008 season this year.  Modell's will be coming to practice on Tuesday, August 11th for sizing Your coach will tell you what time your team is slated to be fitted.   Payment will be required at time of fitting.    The cheer shoe are regularly priced at $54.99 for womens and $39.99 for girls.  We can apply our 10% off coupon and the discounted price is $49.49 for women's sizes and $35.99 for girls sizes.   Payment for the CHEER SHOES is required at the fitting.  Checks  must be made out to "FOOTBALL, INC"- we can also accept cash but we must have exact change as we won't have a way to make change.   (Please note, that you are welcome to use a different vendor should you be able to find the SAME, EXACT sneaker for a lesser price, however it must be exactly the same - please let the Cheer Director know if you plan to do this.  Andrea Dillon_2000@yahoo.com)   Please note that these sneakers should only be worn at games and during competitions. They must be kept in 'new' condition at all times.  The girls should not be wearing them to school or even to practice.

Socks: Cheerleaders must all wear white, NO-SHOW socks.

Hair bows:  These are being made for us and will be approximately $10.  This year the league has decided to pick up the cost of the ribbons for each cheerleader  in lieu of the usual cheer t-shirt that is given out.  (We thought that the money was better spent towards a required item.)  As long as we receive the order as promised, these will be given out with the uniforms on Weds., August 12th.

Hair pieces/Wiglets:  We will be ordering hair pieces for our competition. They attach to your hair with a comb. Price is approximately $15-$20. (we will order these in August for anyone that doesn't already have one.)  We will give you details on how to order as soon as we have this information as this information is still to be determined.

Jackets:
Jackets are optional, however we do recommend that all cheerleaders purchase the same style so we continue to be uniform.  We will notify everyone by e-mail when we will be taking jacket and other apparel orders.   (Questions on apparel should be directed to our apparel coordinator, Karen Roderick at Krod1@comcast.net )

Leggings: For the colder months, the girls will usually wear some type of exercise/gym pants under their uniforms to stay warm.   For 2009, we are still in the process of getting quotes/styles, we will update as soon as know.  It probably won't be until September and we estimate the cost to be about $20.

If you have any questions or concerns about any paperwork or anything else – please contact the Cheer Director, Andrea Dillon via e-mail at:   Andrea_Dillon2000@yahoo.com.
