2009 Bronco Champion Pirates
On Sunday June 28, the 2009 Bronco Championship Tournament found it's final game in Weirton, with the #1 seed Weirton pirates facing off against the #3 seed Wintersville Yankees. Much like the Mustang finals, the Weirton Pirates capped off thier own undefeated season with a 9-1 Championship victory. Congrats to Tom Bever, his staff, players and families on an incredible season.

2008 Weirton Pony Stars Advance to McCandless
The Weirton Pony All-Stars defeated West Allegheny to win the area Satellite Tournament Championship, and secured thier spot in the next round in McCandless, PA. The McCandless tounament will run from July 24th - 27th. Weirton will open against the winner of the Cranberry Satellite Tounament on Thursday, July 24th at 5:30pm.
A special Thank You must go out to the team parents. With many of our resources out of town competing in other tournaments, Pony santioned and otherwise, you did a fantastic job making the WBA shine, as the host to this satellitte tournament. Pony officials were very thankful, and the entire WBA Board thanks you. It's no easy task, but you made it look easy.

2007 Weirton 8's Win 2nd Tournament
The Weirton 8's, Pinto division All-Stars, continued to shine, as the were crowned champions of the WBA 5th Annual Open Pinto Tournament. This championship is the 2nd in 2007 for the Weirton 8's having won the Wintersville tournament a week ago.
This tournament endined similar to the last with Weirton facing Wintersville Blue in the championship game. Only difference was this time Winterville Blue was coming from the losers bracket. Weirton defeated Wintersville in game 1 to become 2007 Champions. Historians indicate that they represent the first Weirton team to win a tournament hosted by the WBA since this tournaments inception. Next weekend, the 8's are off to Warren Township for the 3rd tournament this season. Good Luck boys!

Weirton Baseball 2007 OVYBL Champioships
The WBA was well represented in the OVYBL (Ohio Valley Youth Baseball League) in this 2007 season, with champions in both Mustang (9-10) and Bronco (11-12) divisions.
The Weirton Reds defeated the Wintersville Cardinals on Monday June 9th to take the 2007 Mustang OVYBL Championship. Good pitching and defense by both teams made for an exciting game. However, aggressive base running by the Reds led them to the 4-2 victory. This victory caps off a 16-3 regular season record for the Reds. WAY TO GO REDS!!
Members of the 2007 Mustang championship team are Jacob Brodine, Coty Culler, Jacob Wypasek, Domenic Silvestri, Mike Thermes, Luc Pannett, William Larch, Matthew Thompson, Kaleb Baire, Fargo Camerlengo, Christian D'Angelo, Jacob Kennedy, Ryan Kirk and Shane Little. The Reds were sponsored by Moutaineer Gaming Resort.
Congrats to the Weirton Reds in the Mustang division, and the Weirton Pirates in the Bronco division! 2007 OVYBL Champions, great job!

WBA represented well in OVYBL Tournament
On Saturday, July 2, 2006 the OVYBL (Ohio Valley Youth Baseball League) championship games for both Bronco and Mustang divisions were held at the Weirton Baseball Association complex grounds, with both division tournaments coming down to two Weirton teams in the finals.
The opening game was the Bronco Division championship. It was the Weirton Pirates vs. the Weirton White Sox. In a very well played game by both teams, the Weirton Pirates came out on top with a thrilling victory following a walk off home run hit by Eric Hutchinson in the bottom of seventh inning. The Weirton Pirates are managed by Joe Tunno. Players include Nickolas Battista, Dylan Bongiorni, Michael Drizake, Drazen Frankovitch, Michael Harris, Eric Hutchinson, Seth Klar, Logan Linder, Zachery Midcap, Connor Mogan, and Dominic Notni
In the night cap, the Mustang division was decided in, again, another very well played game between the Weirton Braves and Weirton Phillies. The Weirton Braves prevailed with the victory and were crowned OVYBL Mustang Champs. The Weirton Braves are managed by Terry Viakley. Players include James Harvey, Cory Poling, Zachary Reeves, Zachary Robinson, Michael Rogers, Zachary Springer, Dakota Swan, Matthew Thompson, Mitchell Viakley and Levi Wright.

Weirton Advances to 2005 Regionals
Weirton's 12U team took the Bronco League sectional title July 16 in Monessen, defeating teams from Morgantown, Mon Valley and McCandless (North Allegheny) on their way to the crown.
The win advances the Weirton team to regional play July 21-23 in Canonsburg, where they will compete against teams from Bucks County, Waynesburg, Canonsburg and Chambersburg for the right to represent the area at the PONY World Series, Bronco division, semi-finals in Greensboro, NC.
Weirton defeated Morgantown, 8-4, in the opening match-up and downed Mon Valley 11-4 in the second round before losing to McCandless, 6-5, in eight innings in the semi-finals. Weirton rebounded in the championship, however, coming back from a two-run deficit to defeat McCandless and claim sectional honors by an 8-5 score.
Logan Linder was named Most Valuable Player of the tournament with a stellar performance at the plate and on the mound. Along with a pair of home runs – one in each game of the doubleheader with McCandless – Logan also contributed two doubles, four singles and two walks and was the winning pitcher in the championship game.
Also earning tournament wins were Weirton's Clay Rokisky, who anchored the 8-4 victory over Morgantown, and Dylan Bongiorni, who kept Mon Valley off balance on the way to an 11-4 victory in the second day of tournament play.
Weirton's Broncos also recorded a number of outstanding plays in the field, including a diving catch in left field by Connor Mogan and a diving catch by Dylan Bongiorni in foul territory in front of his own bench. Shortstop Nick Battista came up big in the field as well, turning double plays in critical situations throughout the weekend.
Also contributing to the winning effort with clutch hitting and outstanding defense were Dustin Cuprik, Michael Drizake, Evan Harris, Eric Hutchinson, Seth Klar, Daniel Pietranton and Marcus Prather.
The Bronco squad is coached by Joe Tunno, Anthony Pietranton, John Bongiorni, Mike Battista and Don Mogan.

Weirton Softball Pirates: 2007 Champions
After posting a 13-1 regular season record, manager Frank Fuccy had high hopes for his Pirates squad as they entered the 2007 post season tournament. Following a great tournament, the stage was set. The Steubenville Astros came from the losers bracket to face the Pirates in the Championship.
Steubenville beat the Weirton 11-1 on Saturday to force the deciding game. The Weirton Pirates went on to win the championship game, beating the Steubenville Astros 6-4.
The Weirton Pirates are Madison Burchill, Micah Dibacco, Ashlyn Drizake, Dylan Fenske, Jenna Fonner, Allison Fuccy, Jessica Glass, Alyssa Kelly, Kelly Lemasters, Emily Little, Rebekah Mazur, Maria Notni, and Anya Risk.
Congratualtions! Great job Pirates!

Weirton 13-14 All-Stars take 2nd!
Following a tournament opening 7-5 loss to Upper St. Clair, the WBA 13-14 year old stars won 5 straight games to battle back to the Championship. These wins included defeating Upper St. Clair and a 15-0 win over eventual champion Claysville, before losing 4-2 in the championship game to finish second among the eight teams competing in the WBA 5th Annual Open Tournament.
The 13-14 year olds will now compete in a tournament in Akron, OH before beginning sanctioned PONY tournament play. Good luck boys!

Weirton 8's: Champions
The Weirton 8 yr old All-Stars entered their 1st tournament of the 2007 Post Season, as the team traveled to Wintersville, OH for the Annual Firecracker Pinto Tournament. After an impressive win versus Steubenville, Weir faced a heart breaking loss to Toronto and found themselves in the loser's bracket.
These 12 boys showed a desire to win and how much heart they had, as they battled through the loser's bracket to get back to the championship. Through the loser's bracket the had to win games against Weirton 7's, Steubenville, and Toronto for the right to meet Wintersville Blue in the Championship.
Following the double header wins against Steubenville and Toronto on Monday, the Weirton 8's faced the tall task of beating Wiintersville twice to secure the championship, and they did just that. After a Game 1 thriller, 18-17 win, they followed it up with a 19-17 win to win the 2007 Wintersville Firecracker Pinto Tournament.
The Weirton 8's are Matthew Anderson, Adam Cowden, Cody Enrietti, Chayton Luevano, Chris Mazar, Michael Mills, Hunter Payne, Reis Petrovich, Jacob Schubert, Donavan Spencer, Brandon Waugh, Chad Zablackas, Manager Dave Cowden, and Coaches Rob Petrovich, Bill Waugh, Mike Payne, and Gerard Spencer.

2007 Weirton 8's: Warren Twp Runner Up.
The Pinto 8's continued thier impressive run through July reaching thier 3rd straight championship, only to come up short, losing to Bethlehem 12-11.
Bethlehem had defeated the Weirton squad earlier in the week, sending them down to the loser's bracket. From there Weirton battled, winning games against Union Local, Steubenville, Wintersville Blue to get back to the championship.
In the Championship, Weirton won the first game 13-11 to force a necessary game 2. Then, as stated above, the Bethlehem team came out on top to become the 2007 Warren Twp Champion.
Congrats to the Weirton 8's who are 15-3 in tournament play following 3 great tournaments.

Tri State Medical 14U Champs
Congrats to the Tri-State Medical girls for going wire to wire to capture the 14U End of Season Tournament Championship, going undefeated in this double elimination tournament, knocking off opponents from Brilliant, Steubenville, and Weirton.
Members of the 2006 Championship team are Marina Bradley, Meika Buffo, Samantha Buffo, Julia Cupini, Monica Derby, Desi Frohnapfel, Marlee Gross, Melissa Lamp, Courtney Moss, Jennifer Nogay, Emma Platt, Kassi Robinson, and Nikki Robinson.
Tri-State Medical is managed by Coach Dave Robinson, Coach John Buffo, and Coach Mark Lamp.
