How teams are chosen for each age group

T-Ball:  Preferably for ages 5 and under.  The t-ball coordinator will receive a list of players who have signed up to participate from the league President.  The teams will be divided evenly starting with oldest to youngest.  Special requests will be given when applicable.  We strive to keep the teams to 9-10 players each, that is solely dependent on the amount of coaches who volunteer their time.   Practice times vary upon coaches availability, but normally twice a week.  Once games start, you can expect to play 2 to 3 games a week.  Season ends around the 2nd week of June.

Minors AA:  For ages 8 and under.  There will be an evaluation held each year with the focus of basic baseball skills (hitting, pitching & fielding).  From that evaluation the volunteered coaches will draft their team from those results. There are 2 divisions that make up the Minors AA.  There is an American league and National league.  Normally, there are 2 practices a week (dependent on coaches schedule) and when the season starts, you can expect to play 2 - 3 games a week.

National League: 100% kid pitch. This division will follow the guidelines of the 8U Clarence Boyd tournament rules.  Players in this division demonstrate an above average skill set during evaluations.

American League: 100% coach pitch

Minors AAA: For ages 11 and under.  There will be an evaluation held each year with the focus of basic baseball skills (hitting, pitching & fielding).  From that evaluation the volunteered coaches will draft their team from those results. There are 2 divisions that make up the Minors AAA if we have enough players to do so.  There is an American league and National league.

National League: This division will consist of 9 to 11-year-olds that aren’t drafted for the Majors division.  The remaining players drafted would be decided by their rating from the evaluation night. Players in this division display an above average skill set during evaluations.

American League: This division was designed for players that are still developing in the basic skill sets of baseball.  In this league, we will build the confidence of the players by focusing on the fundamentals of the game.

Majors:  For ages 9-12.  All 12-year-olds must compete in this division.  We believe this division should focus on refining the players' tools for the next level with very little rotational play.  Players that are drafted for this division should show techniques in throwing with accuracy, be able to make the routine plays, and exhibit proper hitting form at the evaluation.

The design for these divisions is to give each kid an opportunity to play within their own skill set of talents. We believe that it will allow for players to learn other key positions and IT will build a stronger foundation for the future of Dallastown baseball.

Dcll tournament selection process

international & boyd participants.

New to 2016 teams can now be chosen and start practicing on June 1st.  Coaches will be discussed at the board meeting prior to the month of June.  The DCLL President will provide the board with his recommendations of the coaches for all age groups.  See age group below. If a league officer chooses himself/herself in the position of the Head Coach, the board must have an approval rate of a 2/3 votes.  Those results must be reported in the Meeting Minutes and sent to the District President; Pete Kline for approval prior to the District Int’l Tournament Affidavit Meeting. Coaches can’t be announced until June 1st.

Majors International (must play in majors)/ Majors Boyd

10/11 International (if we have enough players interested)

 9-10 International/9-10 Boyd

 7-8 Boyd

Each Manager will nominate players that he/she think are deserving of being placed on the ballots for each age group.  When that process is finished, about 2 weeks before June 1st each Head Coach will receive a list of nominated players for each age group.  The manager of each regular season team will be required to submit a total of eight (8) players and two (2) alternates NOT on their team, for each age group. The ballots need to be turned in one (1) week prior to June 1st.  There MAY be a mandatory coach meeting to discuss borderline players where the coaches are able to fight for their players. Ultimately, we want to get the best 12-13 players to represent Dallastown Cougars Little League.

Players will be given one (1) point for each vote in slots 1 through 8, and one-half point for each alternate vote in the final two (2) slots.

Votes will be tallied by the League President and the Player Agent, as long as the President isn’t managing a team.  If the League President is managing a team, the player agent and one other board member will tally up the votes. A list will be formulated by the order of total votes and reviewed on May 31st.  The top ten (10) vote getting players who accept the honor of being selected will be rostered on their respective teams.  The remaining 2, 3 or 4 roster spots (depending on how many you want to carry) will be bonus picks given to the Head Coach to be decided on.  The players not chosen for each International Team will be requested to play for DCLL Boyd tournament teams.

Little League:  The manager and coaches shall be regular season managers/coaches from the major /minor divisions.  The manager will then be asked to pick their own coaching staff and scorekeeper, with a maximum of two (2) assistant coaches pending board approval.  The manager of each tournament team is required to submit in writing the dates/times of desired practices times to League scheduler, Andy Knaub.

PLAYERS SELECTED TO A TOURNAMENT TEAM MAY NOT BE NOTIFIED BEFORE JUNE 1ST.

Why does it cost so much to play?

Cougars tries very hard to keep the costs as low as possible. Please keep in mind we have to pay for player insurance, equipment, uniforms, field rentals, and umpires. We will try and hold a few fundraisers throughout the season to try and help offset costs for these items.
