The only reason to cancel any game would be due to weather conditions, school closing, or not being able to use middle school gym due to school function.

 

If any game is canceled due to above:

I will give you alternate home dates to relay to opposing coach, if away opposing coach should do same.

Coaches, Players, and Fan Conduct

 

Note: Each town MUST print out the Code of Conduct for Players, Coaches and Fans and distribute a copy to every coach and parent, who must in turn sign the sheet to indicate that they have read and will comply with these rules. Copies should be collected by the coaches and given to the TL, who will retain the copies for the duration of the season. It is the responsibility of the TL to maintain possession of these signed sheets and to present them to the BTBL if/when they are requested. Towns may substitute their internal form but it must reference BTBL’s code below.

 

Code of Conduct

 

              Inappropriate conduct will not be tolerated before, during, or after a game. This includes the use of profanity anywhere in the gym. Fans, coaches and players will be supportive of their team, and at a minimum, “polite” to the referees and theopposing team.  Fans and coaches should realize that engaging in conversation and/or criticism of any referee is poor sportsmanship and will not improve the referee’s performance. In fact, this behavior will surely result in a distracted referee, and the fan/coach who is engaging should realize that they are on their way to an outcome (ejection) which they, their town, the BTBL, and most importantly, their children do not want.

 

              Any player ejected from a game will automatically be suspended from the following game. Non-player suspensions will be for three games following ejection. Failure to comply will result in forfeiture of said game and the suspension shall be extended until the person complies with the suspension. Exception: coaches who are ejected in the last game of the season shall only be suspendedfor one game (including Playoff and Championship Games). All second offenses (ejections) will be an automatic season suspension for players, coaches and fans.

 

              If a parent or coach-parent is suspended for a second time, their child will also be suspended for the remainder of the season.  Towns may add to the BTBL’s suspensions at their discretion.             

 

              If any fists are thrown by a fan or coach, the offending person shall be suspended for the season and local police should be notified.

 

              NO ONE SHOULD APPROACH REFEREES AFTER A GAME other than to say good game, thank you or have a good night. Approaching a referee after a game by a coach or fan to criticize or complain is poor sportsmanship and will result in a three game suspension if the referee reports the incident. Similarly, no coaches or parents should approach opponent coaches or parents or engage with them in any way during or following the game.

 

              Questions of rules should take place during the game at a time out or between quarters, otherwise questions should be emailed to your town’s BTBL Assignor.

 

              The League Director shall notify the Town Contact regarding game(s) to be missed as a result of suspensions due to ejections. During their suspension, suspended players, coaches, and fans are not allowed in the facility where their team is playing.

 

              Lastly, the BTBL will comply with all NJ state laws pertaining to youth sportsmanship, bullying, and conduct at public and/or youth sporting events. In other words, incidents included in this section and ones that are not included but are equally as severe may be subject to additional scrutiny should the BTBL or a subscribing town seek to bring an action against a disorderly person(s). Towns are encouraged to involve local police when the safety of any attendee of a game is in question.

Coaches,

 

Wednesday January 2, begins our new season please read below before you start your first game.

1. Read the general rules and the rules particular to your grade. Keep a set of rules for your grade in your scorebook. DO NOT assume referee knows the rules relating to your grade. You should go over press rules with the referee prior to the start of the game. Rules can be found at www.bergentravelbasketball.com. See tabs on left side of screen.

2. If you are playing away call the opposing coach to confirm game, time and location. Contact information can be found under Contacts at the above web site.

3. Schedules and directions can be found on the web site.

4. Scores must be reported to the web site under report results within 24 hours after game whether home or away. Do not assume opposing team will report score.  Only coaches may report scores DO NOT let team members report score. It does take time for web site to be updated with current score do not keep sending score.

5. If there is a problem at the game and there were rejections from game please report same to me with details of who was rejected. If you have problems with the referee send me details of incidence, who you were playing and date and time. During season there is not much that can be done but we do discuss problems after the season.

6. Instruct your players not to argue with the referee. I would suggest coaches not argue with the ref. In my experience the coach will always be on the loosing end of argument.

7. Please make sure you read rule 8 regarding conduct during games. Remember Coaches, you behavior is an example your team will follow. You will be held to a higher standard. If you are suspended you will not be asked back next year. Ir you are suspended during season you may be removed from your coaching responsibilities during the season. We have never had a Fort Lee coach suspended.

8. If you have a question regarding opposing teams' players status regarding eligibility to play on that team, in score book indicate name and number and report it to me. I will question league. 

9. Please make sure players clean up after game. If playing at home, please clean up water bottles etc. before leaving gym. If you are last team to play that night, MAKE SURE gym is empty and everyone has left school building before leaving. If there was an incident at gym regarding damage to building or any fights please report incident to me as soon as possible. 

10. Finally please submit roster to me by this weekend listing players name, uniform number and school attending. If not attending Fort Lee Middle School need home Fort Lee address.

You'll come to a light at Riveredge which you'll go through. You'll now notice a fenced in track on your right. Make a right after the fence. TMS gym doors are first doors on the right side.

From 9W or Palisade Parkway headed South- Exit the Palisades Pkwy at Exit 2 and make a left at the light to pick up 9W headed south. Follow directions above accept you'll be on 9W south for a few miles before coming to Tenafly. Coming south you’ll make a right onto E. Clinton.

From 95N or 80E. Take exit for Broad Ave. for Englewood/Leonia ( I think it's x71). Bear right toward Englewood. Pass through a few traffic lights, then keep straight through a stop sign. The road will end at another traffic light where you'll make a left onto Palisades or E. Palisades. Make a right at the second traffic light onto Engle. Stay on Engle for a few miles. After Englewood hospital you'll go straight after the next traffic light and stay on Engle until the next light which will be E.Clinton Ave in Tenafly. Make a left and follow the directions above picking the directions up at the highlighted word Engle Street.
