MARCO ISLAND SOCCER CLUB FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT IS 3v3 SOCCER?
3v3 soccer is one of the fastest growing forms of soccer today. The game is fast paced with lots of nonstop action. The game is played with 3 players from each team playing on a small-sided field, usually 40 yards long by 30 yards wide and 30x20 for 7 years and under. Goals are 8 ft wide by 4 ft tall and there is a goal box which can vary in size from 10x8 ft to 12x8. No player is allowed to touch the ball in this goal box. The game is very similar to regular soccer except there are no off-sides and the games tend to be higher scoring. Also, neither team has a goalie. Players develop good ball handling and passing skills as well as benefit from more interaction with the ball.
WHEN IS THE 3V3 SOCCER SEASON?
Most of our teams will form in February and start practicing in February or March. Although there are tournaments year round, the 2013 local 3v3 tournament season officially starts mid-March and ends mid-July. However, each team may also qualify for the Challenge Sports National Championships in late July/early August and/or the Kick-It World Championships in mid January of the following year, both held in Orlando at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, (participation in these tournaments is optional).
HOW DO I BECOME A MEMBER?
As an individual player, your family may request membership or be invited to play for a team. A player’s acceptance into membership will be dependent upon the approval of the MISC Board of Directors as well as the coach of the team the player would be placed on. A coach may also put their own team together and request acceptance into the club. Again, acceptance would be up to the MISC Board of Directors.
HOW DO I REGISTER?
All players must register online at www.marcoislandsoccer.org and click the Player Request or field a team form on the top right side of the site. Registration will provide the MISC with player’s and guardian’s contact information, age and uniform sizes.
WHAT DOES IT COST?
The 2013 Membership fees are:
CLUB MEMBERSHIP - $70 per player per year
*covers skills training, administrative and insurance costs.
UNIFORM COST - will be no more than $50 per player
*includes jersey, shorts, 2 pair of socks and 2 practice t-shirts.
TOURNAMENT FEES - Tournament competition is more costly than your typically recreational league because each tournament requires an entry fee. Tournaments entry fees typically range from $170-200 for local tournaments to $350-395 for regional or national championships.
Tournament entry fees will be divided among players. Estimated cost per player is as follows:
# OF PLAYERS 6 5 4
LOCAL(PER PLAYER) $30 $35 $42
CHAMPIONSHIPS(PER PLAYER) $65 $80 $100
Teams may play in as many tournaments as they choose at their own cost.
HOW ARE PLAYERS ALLOCATED TO TEAMS?
Players will be evaluated for their skill level and coaches will determine whether or not the player will be included on the squad. All players will participate in training and interclub scrimmages to hone their soccer skills. Players for a given age group and gender will be pooled together to make one or more teams for the purpose of competing at a tournament. It is the sole responsibility of the head coach to determine who will play at a given tournament based on their performance in practice and availability to participate in the tournament. Membership does not guarantee that a player will be chosen to participate in a tournament.
WILL I GET EQUAL PLAYING TIME?
Although playing time in 3v3 Soccer is probable due to the frequency of substitutions, our main objective as a club is to be competitive within the recreational or competitive division in which we compete. We do encourage that each player play. However, we do not maintain any playing time requirements for players and the amount of playing time that a given player receives is under the full control of the coach.
HOW MANY TOURNAMENTS WOULD WE PLAY?
Generally, teams would typically participate in 1-2 tournaments a month. However, the club does not require participation in any tournament but encourages participation in the 3 scheduled Naples tournaments. Teams may individually choose to participate in any tournament. There are several tournaments available within .05-4 hour drive. A list of local tournaments can be found at www.challengesports.com or www.3v3live.com.
WHAT IS REQUIRED AS A COACH, PLAYER OR PARENT?
Once a team/player has been accepted, they will need to provide the following:
1. Each player will be required to enter their information on the Club’s website via the Player Request form
2. Registration Fees (see Membership Fees)
3. Proof of Age: Birth Certificate or Passport
4. Each player and coach must sign a Parental Waiver, Medical Release and Code of Conduct form.
