Bulldogs Walk-Off with a Win in Opener

HIGHLIGHTS

North Babylon 4, Centereach 3: Steve Burke led off the seventh with a walk, stole second scored the winning run on an errant throw in the bottom of the seventh and Dan Hausmann, Ryan Guthrie and Joe Barbuto each had an RBI to lead North Babylon in its League IV opener.  Doug Drew collected 2 hits for North Babylon and Joe Barbuto and Brandon O'Neill each collected their first varsity hits.

Hausmann's 5 RBIs Powers Bulldogs Past Centereach

HIGHLIGHTS

North Babylon 10, Centereach 5: Ryan Guthrie's sacrifice fly made the score 6-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning. Danny Hausmann hit a grand slam in the sixth inning to provide the final margin and Patrick McCabe got out of a two-on, two-out jam in the fifth and pitched the final two 1/3 innings for the save to lead North Babylon (2-0) in League IV. Five of North Babylon's starters had at least two hits and Andrew Rosa picked up his first varsity win.  Mike Amandola reached base four times and scored three runs.   Hausmann finished the game with 5 RBIs and Nick Balfe collected his first varsity hit.

Barbuto allowed five hits and one earned run in six innings for the win in his first varsity start and Steve Burke went 3-for-4 with four steals, a run and pitched a 1-2-3 seventh for the save. Ryan Guthrie had a first inning RBI single

North Babylon 6, Centereach 5: Reliever Steve Burke entered a 6-5 game with the tying run on third and nobody out in the sixth, and promptly retired the side before pitching a scoreless seventh to earn the save for North Babylon (4-2) in League IV. Burke went 2 for 3 with two runs and two stolen bases. Dylan Towey went 3 for 4 with an RBI, run and stolen base. Danny Hausmann went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a run. Mike Aprano went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI.

North Babylon 1, Half Hollow Hills West 0: Joe Forde had a pinch-hit single to drive in pinch-runner Ralph Tallarico with two outs in the top of the eighth inning in League IV. Andrew Rosa pitched eight innings, allowed three hits and had seven strikeouts for North Babylon (5-5) and Steve Burke went 2-for-4. Brad Camarda pitched eight innings, allowed five hits, no earned runs and had eight strikeouts for Half Hollow Hills West.

Vricciariello Tosses Complete Game 3-Hitter

Highlights: North Babylon 5, West Babylon 2: Carmine Vricciariello threw a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts while allowing one earned run to lead North Babylon (7-12) in League IV.  Charlie O'Neill's RBI single in the top of the third broke a 1-1 tie.  Kenny Fils-Aime was 2-for-4 with a double, stolen base and two RBIs.  Danny Gambardella was 1-for-3 with a run scored, stolen base and a RBI.  Matt Dimino scored a run and made two defensive stand out plays in the field.  Dimino made a running catch in the rightfield gap to rob Andrew Bartifranco with two men on base and threw at a runner at third attempting to advance in the bottom of the seventh on a base hit.

Carmine Vricciariello earned the save by retiring Joshua Outsen with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Bulldogs led 10-2 to start the seventh.  Tyler Schmitt was 2-for-2 with a double, two runs scored, three stolen bases and a RBI.  Junior Dan Bavuso recorded his first varsity hit with a pinch-hit RBI double in the 6th inning.

Senior Greg Carrick earned his first varsity win and senior Charlie O'Neill pitched a perfect seventh to earn the save. Junior Nick Trentalange was 2-for-3 with a run scored and ignited the 7th inning rally with a one out single.
