What do I need to sign up for football?
You must pay the registration fee, complete the required paperwork and provide a copy of your birth certificate and a physical before conditioning starts (Monday July 27, 2009)
What do I need to sign up for cheer?
You must pay the registration fee, pay for required personal items, complete the required paperwork and provide a copy of your birth certificate and a physical before conditioning starts (Monday July 27, 2009).
When do football and cheer practices start, how many days a week?
Monday, July 27, 2009. We practice 5 days a week (Monday thru Friday Normally 5:30-8:00 pm) until labor day, at which time, we go to 3 days a week. (Normally 5:30-8:00 pm, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday).
Where is football and cheer practice held?
DYFC football players and cheerleaders all practice at Hall Park in Dixon.
Where are Dixon’s home games played?
Home Games are generally played at the old Dixon High School. In the event of a schedule conflict or field problem we may play elsewhere.
How far do we have to travel for away games?
We play the Sonoma Dragons, Petaluma Panthers, San Marin Colts (Novato), Rohnert Park Warriors, West County Tigers (Sebastopol), Santa Rosa Stallions, Redwood PAL Golden Bears (Santa Rosa), Central City Phantoms (Santa Rosa) Windsor Knights, Healdsburg Bulldogs and Ukiah Lions.
Is transportation provided to and from practices or games?
The league does not provide transportation to and from practices or games but parents are usually able to arrange for rides with coaches or other members of the team if needed. All drivers should be licensed, have insurance and their vehicles should have seatbelts. Drivers should also make sure that they bring home anyone they take to a practice or a game unless other arrangements have been made.
Do I as a parent have to volunteer and why do I have to volunteer?
Yes, it takes approx 60 parents to run a home game. We need volunteers to set up the game field, work the stadium gate, weigh football players, work the snack bar, clean up field, take down field, monitor PAR, work on the chain gang, etc.
What football gear is supplied by DYFC?
The league supplies all the required equipment except cleats. This includes: equipment bag, helmet, shoulder pads, home game jersey, away game jersey, practice jersey, practice pants, game pants, game belt, practice belt, game socks, thigh pads, knee pads, hip pads, tailbone pad and one mouthpiece. Cleats are considered a non-provided mandatory item.
What football gear is not provided by DYFC?
The league does not supply cleats, girdles, jock strap, athletic cup, arm pads, elbow pads, undershirts, water bottles or specialty pads. These items can be purchased at most sporting goods stores that carry football equipment. Check with your teams coach prior to buying specialty items.
Can players wear helmet visors?
No
Do players need to wear athletic cups?
Not a required part of gear, but a recommended part of gear.
Can football players wear game jerseys to school?
Yes, we encourage the kids to wear their jerseys on Fridays to show team spirit.
Can football players practice in game jerseys or game pants?
No, the kids can not practice in their game jerseys or game pants. Their will be consequences if they wear their game uniform items to practice.
Where can we buy practice jerseys?
Practice jerseys are usually provided by the league but they can also be purchased at most sporting goods stores. Check with your coach prior to buying a practice jersey to make sure your child will be allowed to wear it.
Do we get a discount at any sports stores?
Not at this time.
What color jersey do we wear for home games?
Home game jerseys are green. Away game jerseys are white. Your kids coach will tell them which jersey they need each week. Your kid may need to bring both home and away jerseys to scrimmages and games.
Does the players mouthpiece have to be a certain color?
Yes, a players mouth piece should be green or black in color. It can not be red or clear. We usually have mouthpieces available for purchase so check with your kids coach.
Why do the players need to be at the field 1 1/2 hours before a game?
Players must arrive early for weigh in certification and warm ups before each game. Players that miss weigh ins will not be allowed to play in the game.
Can a game or practice be canceled due to weather?
Practice is not canceled due to weather hot to cold! If practice is not called off by the coach or board and a player chooses not to come due to weather (hot or cold), the player may be benched for a portion of the next game. Coaches are aware of the limits of players especially during the hot summer months and will adjust their practice accordingly.
Can parents be on the sidelines during a game?
No, this rule will be strictly enforced for the 2009 season by coaches and board members. It not only distracting to your child, but it is distracting to the coaches, and referees as well. If you want to be on the field during a game volunteer to coach or do PAR or chains.
Can parents or guardians help at practice?
Background checks are conducted on all of our volunteers. Please check with your head coach first! Do not just step onto a practice field without asking the head coach first.
What does it mean when a game goes to scrimmage?
A game goes to scrimmage when one team is ahead by 28 points or more. If the losing team scores after a game goes into scrimmage, it does not take the game out of scrimmage.
Can a player wear gloves during a game?
Yes, they should be green or black in color if possible.
Can players play offense and defense?
Only at the Junior Pee Wee level and above. Mighty Mites have additional rules, that do not allow a player to play offense and defense in the same game.
Can girls play on football team?
Yes, girls can play football.
Do players and parents have to pay at the gate before a scrimmage game or competition?
Parents must pay. Children under 16 are free.
How can I volunteer?
You can contact our team parent coordinator or our concessions chair person to volunteer. We need all the help we can get. It takes about 35 parent volunteers per day, plus our board members to help run a home game. Without the parents help we will not be able to offer concession or apparel sales at our home events.
How long is the season?
The regular season start July 27th and runs through October. Their will be play offs and special events in the month of November and December.
Can I apply for a scholarship?
We ask that all families pay the registration fee whenever possible but we do not want to turn kids away, therefore, we occasionally offer scholarships which must be approved by the executive board. Contact the executive board if you have questions regarding scholarships.
Can parents or guardians attend a board meeting?
The majority of DYFC board meetings are closed to the general public but the DYFC may hold open board meetings. Please contact our president or athletic director if there is a special issue you would like discussed at a board meeting or have added to the agenda prior to the meeting date.
