We are currently accepting applications for our fall 2013 season. Please consider joining our team of remarkable coaches to provide an incredible Girls on the Run experience to the girls in your community.
Head Coach
The Head Coach works with her team of coaches to facilitate the Girls on the Run curriculum to a group of 8-15 program participants. She works closely with the Council Director and serves as the primary point of contact for parents/guardians of the girls on her team. Throughout the season, the head coach will serve as a role model, exhibiting a healthy lifestyle and positive attitude. Most importantly, the Head Coach will have fun with the girls and encourage positive behaviors.

Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and deliver/supervise 24 - 75 minute (or longer) Girls on the Run lessons in a manner consistent with GOTR philosophy and curricula
  • Serve as a role model for the girls by being on time, listening attentively, having a positive demeanor and outlook, and leading a healthy lifestyle
  • Manage team and coach schedules and communications
  • Encourage girls as they play games and participate in activities
  • Mediate disputes amongst girls in an immediate and respectful manner
  • Interact with parents/guardians of program participants
  • Plan and coordinate the end of season celebration
  • Plan and coordinate a community service project
  • Attend end of the season 5K run and encourage the girls participation
  • Attend regularly scheduled coaches meetings
  • Return all coaching materials as received in a timely manner
  • Be yourself…and have fun!

Time Commitment:
  • Attend a 4.5-hour coach training session (new coaches) or a 2-hour coach refresher session (returning coaches) prior to the start of the season
  • Prepare for delivery of lessons (typically 15-30 minutes to read through and plan)
  • Attend and lead or supervise two lessons a week for 12 weeks (plan to arrive 15 minutes prior to the lesson start and remain until all girls are picked up or delivered to aftercare)
  • Attend pre-season head coaches meeting and up to two in-season coaches meetings (~1 hour each)
  • Attend a First Aid and CPR certification course, if necessary
  • Submit to a criminal background check in accordance with GOTR policy and state and local ordinances
  • Attend and/or participate in the end of season 5K event
  • Plan and execute an end-of-season team celebration

Requirements:
  • Must be female and over the age of 21
  • Must be CPR & First Aid certified
  • Must complete an application and non-compete form
  • Must submit to a criminal background check
  • Must complete a full coach training or refresher session with Council Director
  • Must attend pre-season and in-season scheduled Head Coaches meetings
Assistant Coach
The Assistant Coach assists the Head Coach in all aspects of program delivery at a Girls on the Run program site.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist Head Coach in the preparation and delivery of 24 - 75 minute (or longer) Girls on the Run lessons in a manner consistent with GOTR philosophy and curricula
  • Serve as a role model for the girls by being on time, listening attentively, having a positive demeanor and outlook, and leading a healthy lifestyle
  • Encourage girls as they play games and participate in activities
  • Assist Head Coach in planning and coordinating the end of season celebration
  • Assist Head Coach in planning and coordinating a community service project
  • Attend end of the season 5K run and encourage the girls participation
  • Attend regularly scheduled coaches meetings
  • Be yourself…and have fun!

  • Must complete an application and non-compete form
  • Must submit to a criminal background check
  • Must complete a full coach training or refresher session with Council Director
  • May attend in-season Head Coach meetings as a substitute for Head Coach
Student Coach
The student coach assists the Head and Assistant Coaches with lessons and serves as an encourager, cheerleader, and “superstar” supporter during workouts and 5K runs.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist the coaches, as needed, in delivery of 24 - 75 minute (or longer) Girls on the Run lessons in a manner consistent with GOTR philosophy and curricula
  • Serve as a role model for the girls by being on time, listening attentively, having a positive demeanor and outlook, and leading a healthy lifestyle
  • Encourage and cheer for girls as they play games and participate in activities
  • Participate in games and workouts with the girls
  • Assist the coaches, as necessary, in planning the end of season celebration and community service project
  • Attend the end of the season 5K run
  • Be yourself…and have fun!

Time Commitment:
  • Attend a 4.5-hour coach training session (new coaches) or a 2-hour coach refresher session (returning coaches) prior to the start of the season
  • Attend two lessons a week for 12 weeks
  • Attend and/or participate in the end of season 5K event
  • Attend the end-of-season team celebration

Requirements:
  • Must be a female high school student over the age of 14
  • Must complete a volunteer application and non-compete form
  • Must complete a full coach training or refresher session with Council Director
Site Coordinator
The Site Coordinator serves as the liaison between the school or facility administrators at Girls on the Run program site(s), the coaches at that site, and the Council Director. He or she will also promote the GOTR program and work on securing new program sites.

Responsibilities:
  • Work with school or facility administrators to secure facility access for GOTR program delivery
  • Complete necessary paperwork (i.e. facility use applications) to reserve a suitable outdoor and indoor area for GOTR program delivery
  • Measure and mark a running loop/area for workouts
  • Promote the GOTR program and help recruit coaches and participants at your site(s)
  • Maintain regular communication with site coaches and Council Director regarding program and facility
  • Assist site coaches in identifying and reserving space for end-of-season celebration

Time Commitment:
  • Attend a pre-season planning meeting with the Council Director (~1 hour)
  • Meet with school or facility administration, as necessary, to promote the GOTR program and secure approval for facility use
  • Meet with site coaches, as necessary, and assist in securing space for end-of-season celebration

Requirements:
  • Must complete a volunteer application and non-compete form
Running Buddy
A running buddy escorts one or more GOTR girls on the adventure of their first (or second or third...) 5K event. Running buddies provide encouragement and lots of high-five's throughout the race and especially at the finish line.

Responsibilities:
  • Attend at least one GOTR lesson prior to the 5K event to meet your GOTR buddy/ies
  • Officially register for the 5K event (submit own registration form and payment to the appropriate sponsoring organization)
  • Accompany (run or walk) and provide encouragement to your running buddy/ies throughout the race
  • Escort your running buddy/ies to parents/guardians at conclusion of the 5K event

Time Commitment:
  • Attend at least one GOTR lesson to meet GOTR buddy/ies
  • Participate in the 5K event with your buddy/ies

Requirements:
  • Must be a female high school student over the age of 14 OR an adult over the age of 18
  • Must complete a volunteer application
  • If over the age of 18, must submit to a criminal background check
