    Bucknell Women's Rowing

Academically, Bucknell is unique.  With 3,400 students and a student-faculty ratio of 11-to-1, Bucknell combines the personal feel and attention of a small college, but has the academic and athletic resources of a large university.  In addition to a broad liberal arts college curriculum with 50 majors and 60 minors, we also offer strong professional programs in engineering, business, education, and music performance. To top it off, Bucknell has one of the safest and most beautiful campuses in the country.

Athletically, our women's rowing program provides one of the most balanced and exciting opportunities available in college athletics.  We do quite a bit of sculling during the fall season and our fall schedule is unique in regards to its flexibility, designed to encourage a balanced lifestyle uncommon in Division I athletics.  In the classroom, our team is always top 2 out of 27 varsity programs in the Bucknell Athletics Department for the highest GPA.  Our first year rowers and coxswains have recently achieved a GPA of 3.67 putting them ahead of almost any group of freshman student-athletes in the country.

Our racing schedule includes top ten ranked programs such as UVA, Princeton, Harvard, Ohio, and Michigan. We are the four-time Patriot League Champions, two-time ECAC Metro Champions and in 2007 our lightweights were the IRA National Champions!  Last year we raced at the Eastern Sprints against the Ivies and the rest of the best competition on the East Coast, finishing 8th ahead of Cornell, Syracuse, Northeastern, Navy, and Columbia. We compete every four years in the Royal Henley Regatta and Bucknell alumni rowers have also gone on to compete at the World Championships and the Olympics.

We have a very ambitious program, but we always keep things in perspective.  Academics will always be your top priority, you can go abroad in your junior year, and you will have a whole lot of fun as a member of one the most dynamic rowing programs in the country.

The links will get you to the Summer Senior Day invitation page.

Coaches Letter to student athletes - note the coach can not contact students until their junior year or that would be a NCAA violation.  Any rower who is interested can contact Coach Miller on their own.

    Dear Ms. ,

Coach AJ Miller here from Bucknell University Women’s Rowing.

Congratulations on being a thriving student-athlete.  If you are looking for a place that has a great balance between athletics and academics, Bucknell University might be a good fit for you.  Academically, Bucknell combines the personal feel and attention of a small college, but has the academic and athletic resources of a large university.  Athletically, we are knocking on the door of the top 20 fastest programs in the country.

Click here <http://www.departments.bucknell.edu/athletics/womensrowing/BucknellWomensRowing/Index.html> for our team slide show to get a feel for what we are doing here at Bucknell.

Please feel free to email me anytime at wrowing@bucknell.edu with your academic and athletic profile, or call me at 570.428.4266.   I look forward to hearing from you.

    Coach AJ Miller

    February 24, 2009
Doug has been contacted by the assistant rowing coach at Syracuse University who is responsible for all of their recruiting.  Currently they am still recruiting for the fall of 2009.  They are looking for any seniors who are division 1 caliber (or have the potential to be) that have not committed to a college or university yet?
Additionally, looking forward, they are also collecting information for the high school class of 2010.

Ayone who might be interested in rowing at Syracuse, a Division I school, especially any graduating seniors, please contact Doug McCaig at dmccaig@comcast.net.

    Milwaukee School of Engineering

     December 9, 2007

     Dear Coach,

I am writing to let you know about the Men’s Intercollegiate Rowing program started at the Milwaukee School of Engineering this fall.  I would like to please ask that you pass this letter on to the parents and athletes in your high school program as a way to introduce our new team.

At MSOE we are one of only two fully funded programs in the entire Midwestern United States. We row out of the new Milwaukee Rowing Club boathouse on the Milwaukee River, where two former Olympians train, and a gold medalist from the U.S. Men’s 8 in 2004, Chris Ahrens, started his career.  We have a new 210,000 sq ft athletic center, and a schedule that includes spring break training in Texas.  We also travel to the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia, and the national championships in Camden, New Jersey.  We have both lightweight and heavyweight teams.

Why MSOE?  Because not only are we building a nationally recognized rowing program, but the education students receive at our #9 ranked engineering school will make them a top job candidate for the specialty of their choice upon graduation.  We offer a 4-year graduation program that is almost unheard of in engineering schools.  Engineering courses begin in the first semester as opposed to programs at other schools which don’t offer engineering courses until sophomore year.  Internships are available after sophomore year which all but guarantee a job offer upon graduating.  Finally, the average graduate from our school makes a starting salary of over $51,000.

If you want further information concerning our program please fill out our online athletic questionnaire .  You can also apply online for free at MSOE.edu.  Please do not hesitate to call or email me if you have specific questions, and certainly let me know if you would like a tour of our campus and facilities.

     Go Raiders!

     Sincerely,

     Mike Bailey
