2009 RIP-IT Fall Challenge Champions !!
Great job on the weekend ladies. Allowing only 7 runs on the weekend and scoring 45 will more often then not bring good results. That was the case this weekend as we went undefeated.
GAME 1
OHIO WAVE 9
Excaliber 2
WP: S. Bullock
3 Hits / 0 BB's / 7 K's
This run rule game was close for the first 3 innings as it was tied 1-1. In the 4th inning We scored 5 runs to blow it open and then followed up with 3 more runs in the 6th. This was done with only 8 players as we had 4 girls out for that first game.
Offensively Tabby Enicks had 3 hits, C. Martin had 3 hits and Burke had 2 hits. Wolter, Bullock and Carpenter all had hits as well.
GAME 2
OHIO WAVE 13
OHIO Hawks (93) 2
WP: E. Froment
1 Hit / 4 BB's / 12 K's
This game like the first was played in some tough conditions. The players kept thier concentration and played very well scoring 5 in the 1st inning, and following that up with 1 more in the 2nd and 4 in the 3rd. Froment never allowed the Hawks to get anything going as she struck out 12 and allowed only 1 hit.
Offensively we welcomed Ashley Hanes back after a long time out with and injury and she repsonded with 3 hits. Martin also had 3 hits and Enicks, Wolter, Froment and Burke all had 2 hits each.
GAME 3
OHIO WAVE 10
Dayton Yellow Jackets 1
WP: S. Bullock
3 Hits / 0 BB's / 7 K's
This was another run rule game in 5 innings as Bullock never allowed the Yellow Jackets to get anything rolling. Offensively Carpenter lead the way with a huge HR and a solid single and she was on all 3 times up. Hanes also had a huge game with a 2B, a 3B and she alos reached on an error. Bullock helped her own cause with a 3b and a single. Enicks also had 2 hits, while Martin & Burke had 1 hit each.
3 - 0 in the Pool and the # 1 Seed.
Semi Final Bracket Game
OHIO WAVE 8
Valley Storm 15U 2
WP: E. Froment
3 Hits / 1 BB / 10 K's
Facing much better conditions then on Saturday we welcomed back the players that we were without on Saturday and they
all made an impact. Phillips led the way with 3 hits including a double and Wolter also had 2 hits including a huge HR. Carpenter had 2 hits including a 3B, and Hawk remained hot with 2 more hits and she scored 2 runs. Hanes and Bullock each added hits.
Championship Game
OHIO WAVE 5
Valley Storm 18U 1
WP: S. Bullock
3 Hits / 1 BB / 8 K's
This was a solid Championship game by each team and it was very well played the way that these type of games should be. The Wave scored early in the 1st inning as Hawk reached on an error Martin singled, and Burke knocked them in. That would be all the run support that bullock needed as she allowed only an unearned run in the 3rd, and closed the door from that point on.
Offensively Martin was on fire with 3 hits including a 2 run triple in the 4th inning. Burke had 2 hits and Enicks, Hawk, Carpenter and Wolter each added hits. It was a great team erffort and an excellent way to end the Fall.
On the weekend the defense allowed only 7 runs, committed only 3 errors and the pitchers struck out a total of 47 batters in 5 games (9.8 per game) while allowing only 13 hits (2.5 per game). Offensively we scored 46 runs (9.2 per game).

MIDWEST COLLEGE SHOWCASE
Great job by everyone this past weekend in the Midwest College Shjowcase Event. We got to play some excellent teams and while the weather was challenging on Saturday it was good to see the sun shine all day on Sunday. Like we mentioned before the weekend started these six games were not so much about wins and losses as it was about working hard, executing situations and most of all exposure. I think that each of represented yourselves and the team well.
We ended up finishing 2nd in our Pool to the ILL Sluggers out of 6 teams. Thats the team that we tied 2-2 on Sunday. They ended up allowing 4 less runs then we did. Of course we played two excellent teams from outside of our Pool in the Lasers 94 and Lasers Aqua. I think that they were both better then any of the teams in our Pool for sure. So job well done.
The pitching was storng all weekend as both Sami and Emily adjusted well to the 43 foot pitching distance. Offensively we did well especially Sunday however we do have to correct some of the base running issues that popped up. The effort was strong but the execution needs to be better.
Defensively we did Ok for the weekend. Our outfield play has improved and infield was solid for the most part but there is always room for improvement and the effort was solid.
This weekend we wrap up the Fall at our own tournament which was postponed from last weekend and then its off for a few weeks. These will be full 7 inning games with 1 hour 40 minute time limts so we should get some great work in. The tournament will combine 18U and 16U teams and we will have three pool games on Saturday and then bracket play on Sunday.

2009 14U ASA "A" Eastern Nationals
5th PLACE FINISH OUT OF 64 TEAMS.
Highest finishing team from Ohio. Great job ladies !!
Let me say that we are very proud of the players on the 2009 14U Ohio Wave team for their excellent showing at the ASA "A" Eastern Nationals in Sterling Virginia. I have to say that this was one of the most exciting yet injury filled seasons that we have every had. Through it all the players never made excuses and they played with everything they had. It was a great team to be around and many leaders revealed themselves as the season wnet on.
Here are the results of our efforts at Nationals this year and we want to thank each and every player and their families for the sacrifices and commitments that each of them made to this successful 2009 season.
POOL GAME # 1
OHIO WAVE 5
DEL. MAGIC 6
LP: Froment
6 Hits / 12 K's / 6 BB's
This was a 12 inning ITB marathon that was a great way to start the tournament. The Delaware Magic team was a solid team and a worthy opponent. Our bats were not warmed up yet as we unloaded them after the trip to Virginia but the pitching and defense was excellent. Delaware tied the game in the 7th inning to send it to ITB and each team executed very well in the 8th, 9th , 10th, and 11th innings until the 12th inning when we made a mistake in the top half of the inning. After advancing our runner from 2nd base on a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt by Carpenter we brought in a pinch hitter to try to score the runner from 3rd and once again take the lead. She hit a sinking line drive just over the 2nd baseman and I thought it was going to drop so I had the runner release. The center fielder made a great showstring catch and doubled off the runner for the 3rd out. Delaware failed to sacrifice the runner to 3rd and with 1 out they did get a bunt single and we then loaded the bases to set up a force at any base. Ultimtaly the batter hit a slow roller to SS and it was fielded cleanly but we had no chance to make an out and the winning run scored. It was a tough loss but we did get an extra 5 innings in so it was like being able to play another game.
POOL GAME # 2
OHIO WAVE 9
L.I. Thuinder 5
WP: Nealiegh
7 Hits / 2 K's 1 BB
This game we were able to break out the bats and produce some offense. With Phillips nursing a sore ankle Gaddis came in and did a great job at 2nd base and had a single and a walk and scored twice. Carpenter was on fire with 3 hits a run scored and 2 RBI, Erwin had 2 hits and 3 RBI and also scored a couple runs. Hanes, Froment, Harshbarger and Colton all hads a hit as well. Solid defense was played behind Nealiegh as we had an error free game.
TOURNAMENT GAME # 1
OHIO WAVE 8
R.I. Lightning 1
WP: Froment
2 hits / 4 K's / 1 BB
For the second game in a row we were alive and well offensively. Scoring 3 in the 1st and 3 in the 2nd effectively took the Ligthning team out of the game. French and Nealiegh lead the way with 2 hits each, and Phillips, Harshbarger, Erwin Carpenter, Wolter, and gaddis each had 1 hit as well. Nealiegh did the big damage with 4 RBI. We played excellent defense once again allowing only 1 error in the first inning.
TOURNAMENT GAME # 2
OHIO WAVE 5
M.C. BLAZE 1
WP: FROMENT
6 Hits / 14 K's / 0 BB
This was a great game and the atmosphere was awesome. The game was played under the lights and the stars were out. We jumped on them right out of the gate as Hanes cleared the right fielder with a triple off the fence. She scored when harshbarger singled and the the game was on. Hanes again got things going in the 3rd inning as she lead off with a single and Nealiegh scored her with another bomb to the fence. That would be all the runs that Froment would need as she dominated the Blaze hitters. The Wave defense was awesome as we played error free ball and extended the errorless inning streak to 13. Great win and we moved on in the winners bracket.
TOURNAMENT GAME # 3
OHIO WAVE 2
Valley Xtreme 1
WP: Froment
6 hits / 7 K's / 2 BB's
Well this one was a great game as the runs were at a premium. Valley Extreme took a 1 run lead in the 4th inning and held it until we came to bat in the bottom of the 6th inning. Phillips got things started with a single and Hanes bunted her over the 2nd Base. After a Harshbarger ground out and a walk by Erwin Nealiegh came to the plate and delivered a 2 out triple to right center field to score both runs. Froment shut them down in the top of the 7th one, two three. and we advanced one more game in the Winners bracket. Once again for the 2nd straight game the defense played an error free game to extend the consecutive inning mark to 20. Thats flat getting it done !
TOURNAMENT GAME # 4
OHIO WAVE 2
W. V. Fireballs 3
LP: Froment
Hits: 4 / 6 K's / 3 BB's
This is a game that we let get away from us. In the end we played a good game, but not good enough. We out hit them but we also stranded 9 runners on base and just could not deliver the big hit when needed. Wolter had 3 hits in the game and a walk but as a team we struck out a tournament high of 8 times in the game. On a positive note we played yet another error free game (3 in a row) defensively and extended our errorless inning streak to an amazing 26 innings. Outstanding !
TOURNAMENT GAME # 5
OHIO WAVE 6
Carolina Cardinals 2
WP: Nealiegh
5 Hits / 2 K's / 0 BB's
Froment saved it with 1 hit, and 4 K's over the final 3 innings.
This was another awesome game under the lights and Nealiegh started on the mound and pitched 4 very good innings. Froment came in to close the door and move the team on to Sunday morning. This was a great team effort all the way around. Offensively just about everyone had a hit but Gaddis and Wolter seemed to be in the middle of all of the scoreing. Defensively we played yet another error free game (4 in a row). Needless to say we definately were playing our best defense at the right time of the season. That improved the errorless innings streak to 33. WOW !
TOURNAMENT GAME # 6
OHIO WAVE 6
PEGASUS 0
WP: Froment
Hits: 2 / 7 K's / 2 BB's
The rain came on Sunday morning right as our game started and when it ended the TD decided to revise the format to 1 hour time limits and that really changed the fee of the tournament. We prevailed after a long rain delay. We hit the ball very well led by Phillips and Harshbarger who had 2 each. Wolter added 1 and Colton and Brooks each had a walk. The defense stayed red hot as we played yet another game without an error. That makes 5 consecutive games and 37 innings.
TOURNAMENT GAME # 7
OHIO WAVE 1
L.I. BANDITS 4
LP: Froment
5 Hits / 4 K's / 0 BB
This ended up being our last game of the tournament. The Long Island team was a good team but we did not have our best offensive effort. We only had 5 hits thru 6 innings off of their pitcher who was not the best that we had seen all weekend by far. We hit some balls well but their outfield was solid and they made some nice outs. Our defense completed an amazing run by going 6 straight games without and error to wrap up the tournament (43 consecutive innings) and our effort there was outstanding. Overall we committed only 4 for the entire tournament.

MIDWEST WORLD SERIES (Berliner Park, Columbus Ohio)
2009 MIDWEST WORLD SERIES
(BERLINER PARK, COLUMBUS)
POOL GAME # 1
OHIO WAVE: 10
Macomb Explosion 2
WP: Nealiegh (6 K's)
Offensive Stars: Gaddis 3 hits, Colton 3 hits, Erwin 2 hits, Nealiegh 3B, Carpenter 2 hits, Phillips 1 hit
POOL GAME # 2
OHIO WAVE: 6
NEW ERA: 5
WP: Froment (10 K's)
Offensive Stars: Phillips 2 hits, Colton 2 hits, French, Froment, Erwin, Carpenter each had a hit. The game was won in walk off fashion in the 7th inning as Colton led off with a hit, Gaddis also singled, French sacrficed then over with a great bunt, Froment also bunted to load the bases and Lauke had an infield single to score the winning run.
POOL GAME # 3
OHIO WAVE: 2
OC Outrage: 4
LP: Hanes
Offensive Stars: Nealiegh had the only hits that the team had in a tough loss to a very good team. hanes pitched very well and deserved better as she only allowed 2 earned runs, but we just could not generate any offense off of the Outrage pitcher.
AFTER POOL PLAYED WE EARNED A # 2 SEED
BRACKET GAME # 1
OHIO WAVE: 8
Aurora Raiders: 1
WP: Nealiegh ((4 K's)
Offensive Stars: Phillips, Harshbarger, Hanes, and Nealiegh all had 2 hits. Gaddis added 1
BRACKET GAME # 2
OHIO WAVE: 7
NKY BANDITS 4
WP: Hanes: (1 K)
Offensive Stars: Froment and Phillips each had 3 hits but Froment was the start of the game as she busted 2 huge over the fence bombs, one in the 4th and another in the 6th to really put the dagger in the heart of the Bandits. Gaddis and Hanes also added a hit each.
BRACKET GAME # 3
OHIO WAVE: 4
HIGH VOLTAGE: 3
WP: Froment (12 K's)
This was yet another awesome game. Two very good teams battling head to head for 8 innings. In the end The Wave executed our ITB to perfection as Hanes bunted Harshbarger over the 3rd on the first try and Nealiegh lifted a huge fly ball SAC Fly to right field to score Harshbarger from 3rd and advance us into the next game. Phillips, Colton, Harshbarger, Hanes, and French each had a hit and Froment stayed hot with two more hits (one of them just a few feet short of going over the fence). Kudos goes to Hanes who had the perfectly executed sacrifice bunt in ITB.
BRACKET GAME # 4
OHIO WAVE: 1
INDY SHOCKERS: 2
LP: Froment (9 K's) Only 3 hits - no earned runs
Offensively we simply did not do enough to score some runs and advance to the Championship game. We only K'd 3 times but we seemed to hit everything right at a fielder and they made all of the outs. Kudos to Gaddis as she found a way to keep the final inning alive with a great at bat in the 7th inning. Phillips followed with a single to knock her in but we then stranded the tieing run and failed to advance to that final game.
Overall a frustratng weekend as we played most of the tournament shorthanded. Sunday with 5 games to play we had on 9 players. No excues just stunk to not be a full strength.

2009 STINGRAYS RESULTS
5TH PLACE FINISH
POOL GAME # 1
OHIO WAVE 2
INDY DIA. CHIX 1
WP: Froment
5 Hits / 7 K's / 1 BB
Offensively Carpenter, and Phillips hads hits and in the 5th Inning Gaddis had an RBI on a FC and Froment knocked in the eventual winning run on a Sac Fly to LF.
POOL GAME # 2
OHIO WAVE 2
Lasers Red 6
LP: Froment
Hits: 3 hits / 3 K's / 1 BB
Offensively we out hit the Lasers 6 to 3 but missed a big opportunity in the 3rd to tie the game when we left 2 runners on 2nd & 3rd with only 1 out. Defensively we played poorly in the 2nd inning as 5 of the runs allowed were unearned on a few errors. Three errors in the outfield sealed our fate and we ended up with the number 2 seed.
Rain all day saturday ended up shortening the tournament to a single elimination format.
BRACKET GAME # 1
OHIO WAVE 5
Buckeye Heat 2
WP: Froment
Hits: 2 / 5 K's / 3 BB's
Offensively Carpenter had 2 hits, Phillips, Froment, Hanes (2b), Nealiegh all had hits. Hanes ended up knocking in the eventual winning run in the 2nd inning.
BRACKET GAME # 2
OHIO WAVE 2
Lou. Sluggers 3
LP: Froment
Hits: 3 / K's: 10 / BB's: 3
In what had to be one of the best games of the season we dropped a heart breaker in ITB to a very strong Louisville Slugger team. Froment pitched a great game and for the first all 3 runs allowed were unearned. After giving up 1 run in the 1st inning on an error the pitching and defense took over until the 5th inning when we tied the game on a base hit by Harshbarger, then a FC by French, and an RBI base hit by Froment. after a scoreless 6th by both teams the Sluggers had the first shot in ITB. With the bases loaded and 1 out Froment struck out the next batter to give us a great chance to get out of the inning. The 3rd out was almost made on a diving attempt by French in foul territory but the ball just went off the end of her glove after a great effort. The next pitch produced a routine ground ball but we were not able to make the out at 1st and 2 runs scored. In the bottom of the ITB inning we executed well and had a huge chance to win in wlak off fashion. With 1 out Harshbarger knocked in Carpenter to make the score 3-2 and after a French single, Gaddis grounded out to 2nd base to advance the runners to 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs. A strike out ended the game and our 2009 Stingrays run that produced a 5th place finich for the third straight year.

Coming off our Championship in the 2008 GAPSS 14U Division we returned this year with the task of repeating. Easier said then done as our offensive woes continued, and injuries continued.
POOL GAME # 1
OHIO WAVE 1
CINCY DOOM 2
LP: Froment
Hits: 2 / K's: 10 / BB's: 2
This was a 0-0 game until the bottom of the 5th when Wolter led off with a single that was misplayed into a triple.
Nealeigh got the RBI with a ground out to 2nd. Other then that only French (1 hit & 1 BB) and Hanes (1 hit) reached base.
Frustrating loss as we wasted an excellent pitching effort.
POOL GAME # 2
OHIO WAVE 9
MC Madness Red 2
WP: Nealeigh
4 hits / 4 K's / 1 BB
The offense woke up a little as we knocked out 10 hits and had a few BB's as well. Hanes led the way with 3 hits and 4 RBI and Harshbarger and Wolter also had 2 hits each.
|
RIP - IT CHALLENGE RESULTS
The 2009 RIP-IT Challenge did not turn out the way that we wanted or expected but we played some good games and found a few things out about our team. mainly nobody can be taken for granted !
GAME # 1
OHIO WAVE 3
MV XPRESS 2
WP: Hanes
5 Hits / 5 K's / 2 BB's
The offense was led by E. Nealeigh who had a walk off triple to win the game. Hanes & Wolter had 2 hits each and Froment had a double.
GAME # 2
OHIO WAVE 12
OHIO KAOS 0
WP: Froment
1 hit / 10 K's / 1 BB
The offense was led by K. Gaddis with 2 hits, and every other player reached base via a hit or by being HBP. Overall a very solid offensive performance.
GAME # 3
OHIO WAVE 8
C. OHIO ICE 0
WP: Nealeigh
Hits: 3 / K's: 1 / BB's 0
Offensively the team was led by Harshbarger with 3 hits, Erwin with 2 hits, and Colton and Nealeigh each added 1 hit. Carpenter walked twice.
GAME # 4
OHIO WAVE 9
CINCY STORM 0
WP: Froment
1 Hit / 14 K's / 0 BB's
Offensively we plated 6 runs in the 1st inning and never looked back. Solid game all the way around.
FIRST BRACKET GAME:
OHIO WAVE 11
OHIO FLYERS 0
WP: Froment
No Hits / 11 K's / 0 BB's
Froment throws a no hitter and offensively everyone gets into the act. We play our third error free game of the weekend but it appears that we were saving them all up for one game.
2ND BRACKET GAME (SEMI FINAL)
OHIO WAVE 4
C. OHIO ICE 6
LP: Hanes
After making only 2 errors in the first 5 games of the tournament we must have decided to use them all here and we did as we committed 3 of in the 2nd and 3rd innings leading to all of the runs that the Central Ohio Ice team would need. Offensively it was a little frustrating to have 10 hits and 2 BB's and only come away with 4 runs. By far our most frustrating game of the season especially considering that we run ruled and 1 hit the very same team just one day earlier.
Congrats to the Central Ohio Ice as they went on to defeat the Ohio Classics in the Championship game as well.

Great job on a well played tournament in Toledo (6-12-09 thru 6-14-09). This year we finished with a 5-2 record in the 14U "A" division and that combined with the fewest runs allowed secured the championship for us.
To my knowledge this was the first time that any Ohio Wave team has won their division at the Toledo Tune-up.
GAME RESULTS:
GAME # 1
Ohio Wave 14
Renagades 0
WP: Hanes. 1 hit / 1 BB / 4 K's
Harshbarger led the way with 3 hits.
GAME # 2

LP: Froment: 4 hits / 3 BB's / 7 K's

GAME # 3

Irish Gold 1

Champions 2009 Heatin it Up ASA Qualifier !!
Great job ladies on our first time out this season. It was great to see all of you back out on the field and as the weekend went along we could see all of you getting your softball skills back to normal. We were a little behind until late Sunday but overall we looked very good. Having said that we have a long way too go before we ge to where we expect to be. Lets keep working hard and building the team that we all want.

Ohio Wave 3 Cincy Doom 2
Lets all keep KP in our thoughts and prayers as she heals from a real scary injury that she recieved in the Championship game. Looks like we might not have her on the field for a few weeks at best and maybe 4 weeks at worst.
Also, we will be without Pee Wee this weekend as she visited the doctor on Monday and was told that she had to shut it down for a few weeks due to tendonitis in her throwing elbow. She is not allowed to catch or hit for now.
That means that we will all have to step it up another notch this weekend as our opponents will not be very sympathetic. We have plenty of faith in every player that we have to get it done, and know all will have thier chance.

GENERAL INFORMATION
PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE TO OUR 2009 TRAVEL SCHEDULE
We had to make a change to our 2009 travel schedule and I wanted to get the information out htere ASAP.
We were planning to play in the GEM City tournament (ASA) on the weekend of July 17th - 19th, but the 16U age group was sold out. The 14U age group does not have the type of competition that we are looking for especially with it being our last tournament before the ASA Eastern "A" Nationals. There are no other tournaments that weekend (within a reasonable distance) that will provide the type of challenge that we are looking for. So we ended up entering the following event on the weekend of July 24th - 26th.
All Sanctioned World Series at Berliner Park in Columbus, Ohio.
As it turns out most of our other Ohio Wave teams will be there as well and at this time there are 28 teams from 6 different states and it looks like it will be a nice challenge before heading off to Virginia. I think that its possible that they could end up with 30 plus teams in this age group and we should be able to get alot of games in as well.
Sorry for the late notice but we thought that this would be the best option to get us ready for the Nationals.
WHERE ARE OUR PLAYERS PLAYING RIGHT NOW:
Best of luck to all of our players who will be begining their High School fastpitch playing careers very soon. I will try to keep up here with their teams records and highlights as best I can. Here are the schools that our players represent:
Arcanum
Greenville
Twin Valley South
Monroe Central (Indiana)
Southeastern
Miamisburg
Thanks,
Coach Rich / Coach Erin

RIP-IT 2009 ASA "A" NQ CHAMPION
The 2009 14U team got off to a great start with a perfect record at the first annual RIP-IT Fall Fastpitch Classic. The Championship helps the team meet one of it's first goals of the season. That was to qualify for the 2009 ASA Eastern "A" Nationals that will be held in Sterling Virginia.
The team had a few rough spots and we have a few things to work on this winter but overall the players gave a great effort in the 6 games that they played. With a perfect record of 6-0 here is the game results:

Double Header scrimmage vs. Valley Storm 18U
We want to thank the Valley Storm 18U team for inviting us over for a double header scrimmage on Nov 2nd. The weather was perfect and both teams played very well. Here is a brief summary of the two games:
Game # 1
Ohio Wave 1
Valley Storm 2
E. Froment pitched the first game and threw very well, allowing only 2 hits over 4 innings while striking out 7. The 5 BB's allowed were not an indication of how well she pitched. Overall the defense played very well with only 1 error in the game. The offense was led J. Erwin who tripled and K. Phillips who had a solid single. E. Nealeigh reached base on a hard hit ball that the 2nd baseman misplayed and also had an excellent sac bunt in the 5th inning.
Game # 2
Ohio Wave 4
Valley Storm 2
E. Nealeigh pitched a very effective game as she picked up the win in the 2nd game. Going 5 innings and allowing only 3 hits and striking out 2 she was supported by some very good defensive play. The 2 runs she allowed were unearned and she walked only one batter in the game.
Offensively the Wave totaled 7 hits with K. Harshbarger leading the way with 2, and J. Erwin (3B), C. Carpenter (3B), J. Colton (single) E. Froment (single), and K. Phillips (3B & 2 runs scored) all chipped in. The Wave had runners on in every inning and scored in 4 of them.
Overall it was a great day of work against a very good Valley Storm 18U team and we appreciate Rob giving us a call and inviting us over.
