
Tom Ryan Head Coach
Tom is entering his second year as the Radnor High School Head Coach. Coach Ryan spent the previous six years at West Chester University. He was an assistant for both Rick Daniels and Bill Zwaan. He was a position coach for two years with the tight ends and four years with the linebackers. He was a position coach for two years with the tight ends and four years with the linebackers. During his time at West Chester he coached numerous All – PSAC players, and All –Americans. West Chester was a National playoff team the past 3 years, and in 2004 went all the way to the National Semi-final game.
Prior to coaching at WCU Tom spent seven years as an assistant at Upper Darby High School. Tom was the Special Team Coordinator, while also coaching the receivers and linebackers. Tom coached many All- Central and All- Delco players.
Tom received his undergraduate degree from West Chester University in Health and Physical Education where he lettered 3 years in football. He also received his Masters at West Chester University in Athletic Administration. Tom was the Department Head of Health and Physical Education at Drexel Hill Middle School in the Upper Darby School District. He also is a graduate of Upper Darby High School where he lettered in football 3 years.
Tom is currently a Health and Physical Education teacher at Radnor High School.
Eric Ruffenach Offensive Coordinator/ Wide Receivers
Coach Ruffenach is entering his second season as an assistant coach for the Raiders. He will handle the offensive play calling this year and resume his role as the wide receiver's coach. Eric has played football for 18 years either at wide receiver and/or defensive back. Coach Ruffenach played his high school ball at Upper Darby High School where he lettered 3 years. He was a member of the first ever football playoff team. He served as the team captain in his senior season. He originally began his college career at Widener University where he lettered as a freshman, but soon transferred to West Chester University with successful coach Bill Zwaan. He played wide receiver and lettered all four years and was a member of the 2004 National Semi-finalist team.
Eric graduated from West Chester University with a degree in Health and Physical Education in May of 2007. Eric is a teacher in the Radnor School District.
Brett Thomas Offensive and Defensive Line
Brett is a learning support teacher at Radnor High School. Coach Thomas was a 2001 graduate of West Chester University, with bachelors in special education and a dual minor in history and communications. Brett received a lacrosse scholarship to play for West Chester where he was a four year starter. Brett played football at Marple Newtown High School from 1993-1995, where he was a 3 year starter at safety and cornerback, in addition to serving as the teams primary kick returner. Brett has previously coached the pound football team at Radnor Middle School.
Nick Casertano Special Teams/Wide Receivers/Linebackers
Coach Casertano is a 2001 graduate of Upper Darby High School, where he earned four Varsity letters as the team’s kicker. Nick is the second highest scorer for kickers in Delaware county history and first all time in the Central League. Nick has a Bachelors degree in Health and Physical Education from West Chester University. He will begin his first full time teaching year at a middle school in the Upper Darby school district.
Chris Sydnor Defensive Backs/Running Backs
Coach Sydnor is a 1981 RHS graduate. He received Honors in Sports, All-State in football (running back), and All-American is Track & Field (sprints). He played four years on a football scholarship to PSU, and started two years as a Defensive Back. He was a member of PSU’s 1982 National Championship Team (Penn State’s first). He was a 9th round draft pick of the LA Raiders. After pro-football, he served as assistant coach for Radnor from 1987 -89. This is his ninth year coaching for Radnor. He is married and has two children.
Erik Hollingsworth Running Backs/Defensive Backs
Erik is a 1993 graduate of Strath Haven High School. At Strath Haven, he played football, wrestling and baseball. Erik went on to play football at King's College from 1993-1996 where he was a strong safety and punt-returner, as well as co-captain his senior year. Erik received a B.A. in Criminal Justice and went on to work at Glen Mills where he coached wrestling from 1997-2006. Erik is currently the Head Wrestling Coach at Strath Haven, where he was an assistant last year. He also is the JV Baseball coach at Strath Haven. Erik played rugby league for the Glen Mills Bulls/ Aston Bulls from 1997-2007. He represented the United States 5 times playing for the USA Tomahawks. Erik is a Special Education teacher at The Academy, located in Norristown, PA. In addition, Erik was a Corporal United States Marine Corps. Erik lives in Wilmington, DE with his wife and two sons.
John McGillian Quarterbacks
Coach John McGillian played four years of baseball and football at Upper Darby High School where he was graduated in 1997. Coach McGillian was a 2 year started for the Royals as a Quarterback. He then went on to play baseball at Albright College where he was nationally ranked in E.R.A in Division III. After playing at Albright, Coach embarked on a coaching career that has included stints at St. Laurence Grade School and Monsignor Bonnor High School before joining the Royals four years ago. While with the Royals, Coach McGillian was responsible for guiding Quarterbacks for the football team as well as pitchers and middle infield for the baseball team.
Coach McGillian took over the reins of the Radnor baseball team in 2008. This 2008-2009 school year will be the first year for Coach McGillian as the quarterbacks coach for the Raiders and will be the 2nd year to embark as the Head Coach of the Raiders baseball team.
Mike Bonner Offensive Line and Strength/Conditioning
Mike was a two year varsity letter winner at Ridley High School and was on the team that won the Central League title in 1996. Mike graduated from West Chester University in the spring of 2002 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Health and Physical Education. Currently attending Neumann College for his Master’s in Education.
Coach Bonner is in his 4th year of teaching Health and Physical Education at Upper Darby High School. Mike coached the freshman football team at Upper Darby High School in 2006. He was assistant on the freshman team last year
Jeff Potter Freshman Head Coach
Jeff graduated from Ridley High School in 1992. He was a three sport athlete playing football, wrestling, and lacrosse. Jeff went to Penn State where he graduated with a degree in Kinesiology. He received his Master’s in Education from Widener University and is currently in his twelth year teaching at Upper Darby High School. Jeff has coached football for ten years, at both Garnet Valley High School and Beverly Hills Middle School.
Scott Dudley Freshman Defensive Coordinator
Coach Dudley is a 2000 graduate of Haverford High School, where he was a standout football player at linebacker and offensive guard. As a senior co-captain in 1999, Scott helped the fords to a 9-3 record and earned 1st team All-Central League and 1st team All-Delco honors at linebacker.Scott graduated from West Chester University in 2005, receiving a Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology, with a Fitness Specialist focus. He previously attended Millersville University as a freshman and sophomore, winning two letters as a linebacker. In his senior year at West Chester, Scott was the starting middle linebacker on a squad that won the 2004 PSAC East Championship and the Northeast Regional Championship, and advanced to the NCAA Division II National Semi-finals (losing to the eventual national champion).
Scott is currently a Sports Performance Coach/Personal Trainer for ALL-Fitness and Go! Athletics. He has also worked for a number of area sports-performance companies that focused on off-site speed, agility and quickness training. Scott has helped organize and run numerous local speed camps for hundreds of athletes of different ages in a variety of sports. Additionally, he has designed and implemented programs for Division I, II, and III college athletes, and has worked with a number of NFL combine prospects. Scott is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
