STARZZ BASKETBALL SEASON ONE COMES TO AN END

After months of planning, practice, and headaches associated with a new program, STARZZ Basketball completed its first season of competition at the Mid-America Youth Basketball State Championships, in San Antonio, Texas.  Both boys teams finished the tournament with one loss each, which just happened to have occurred in the championship games.  Both teams completed thier final tournament with 4-1 records and second place finishes.  The Lady Starzz 2014, 6th grade girls, finished fourth in the tournament.

STARZZ Basketball teams played a total of 129 games, compiling a combined 81-48 won-loss record.  The teams competed in fourteen tournaments, while making 33 team tournament appearances.  Of those 33 appearances, STARZZ Basketball teams won eleven championships, finished second five times and  third seven times.  Twenty-three top three finishes.

These were outstanding accomplishments and should be credited to the dedicated volunteers, parents. players, and generous sponsors who supported the STARZZ Basketball program.  We also thank the individuals and organizations who worked so hard AGAINST our success. It is their actions which served as the additional motivation contributing to the success of this program.

STARZZ Basketball will continue to build on the successful Season One, as we prepare for Season Two.  We have many plans and expectations for Season Two, as will be expanding our number of teams, recruiting additional coaches, and increaslng number of  young men and women in our program.  Dorothy and I look forward to Season Two and we hope that you will also join us as members of the 2010 STARZZ TEAM!  Thank you!

CEDAR PARK  "RUMBLE IN THE PARK"

STARZZ Basketball took its traveling show this week to the Mid-America Basketball Tournament in Cedar Park, Texas.

In their first pool play game, the 7th grade boys beat the Copperas Cove Cobras, then lost only their second game of the season to the Austin Toros. In three tournaments, the STARZZ 7th grade boys only losses have come at the hands of the Toros’.  The loss to the Toros forced the 7th grade boys into the third-place game against the Salado Slam.  Rashard Odomes’ clutch free throw shooting at the end of the game sealed the deal for the STARZZ 7th grade boys as they finished in third place.

The 8th grade boys jumped on the Liberty Hill Wildcats and Austin Wildcats in their first two games of round robin play.  Having secured at least a second place finish, the 8th graders needed a win over Texas Extreme for the tournament title.   The Texas Extreme hung tough throughout the first half, before finally falling to the STARZZ 8th graders.  The 8th grade boys have now won two consecutive tournaments and improved their record to 7-4.

The STARZZ Basketball 6th grade girls continued their winning ways.  They defeated the Austin Hoops, the Dripping Springs Lady Tigers, and the Georgetown Dribblers on their way to winning the 6th grade girls division.  In three tournament appearances, the girls are 9-2, with two first place finishes and one third place finish.

The STARZZ Basketball 8th grade girls went 0-2 in pool play with a forfeit to the Austin Wildcats, on a scheduling error, followed by a loss to the Centex Triple Threat.  In bracket play, the 8th grade girls defeated the BCS Lady Bears 8th, to finish the tournament in fifth place.
