New Names for Divisions

Age Divisions

The following outlines the age changes to the divisions for the 2009/2010 Season. The names of the age divisions are changing from the current terminology (Petite, Tween, Junior, etc.) to the "U" Classification. The following outlines the age changes to the divisions for the 2009/2010 Season. Please note the clarification that, for example, U9 refers to "under 9" so ages 8 and under. It does not mean 9 and under.

DIVISION NAME CHANGES

Old Div.            New Div.          Age               Born (for 2009/10 season)
Pre-Bunny  U6     5 & under     2004 and later
Bunny  U9     6 & 7     2003, 2002
    8 (w/no exp)     2001 (as noted)
Novice U10    8 & 9    2001, 2000
Petite U12    10 & 11    1999, 1998
Tween U14    12 & 13    1997, 1996
Junior U16    14 & 15    1995, 1994
Belle U19    16, 17 & 18    1993, 1992, 1991

To clarify the U9 and U10 age divisions, if someone is registering to be a Bunny for the 2009/2010 season they should register as a U9. If someone is supposed to be Novice for the 2009/2010 season they should register as U10. This does not mean that Novice/U10 is a 1-year division, but that someone who is 8 could register for either Bunny or Novice depending on their experience and ability (example: a new player born in 2001 with no previous Ringette experience will register U9 while a player that has played the game previously will register for U10). Please make this clarification on your registration form.

Note: 5 year olds with experience may be placed in the U9 division upon request depending upon experience and ability. 8 year olds with experience may be placed in the U10 division upon request depending upon experience and ability.

Registration fees will be based on the division the player is placed in:
2009-2010 Fees:

$100 Pre-Bunny (U6)
$200 Bunny (U9)
$300 Novice (U10), Petite (U12), Tween (U14), Junior (U16), and Belle (U19)

Strathmore Minor Ringette Assocation has decided to set a firm registration deadline prior to evaluations for the 2009-2010 season.

Registration deadline is September 3rd
. Any player who registers after this date is not guaranteed to be placed on a team. This deadline will allow the time needed to properly analyze the numbers registered and prepare the evaluation and communications to everyone before the evaluations start. All registrations received after September 3rd from players who played in Strathmore last year will be assessed a $100.00 penalty in addition to their registration fee.

Late Registrations (received after September 3, 2009).
Late registrations will be subject to an additional $100.00 registration late fee. Registrations submitted after this deadline will be reviewed and acceptance will be at the sole discretion of the Strathmore Minor Ringette Association.

All players from ALL age divisions MUST attend Evaluations.
Please refer to schedule to confirm your evaluation times

As per Ringette Alberta, if registration numbers determine 2 or more teams in an age division, they will be assigned as follows:

·         U9 and U10 - balanced teams, no tiering

·         U12 – The number of teams in the U12 division will be based on registration numbers and evaluation input

o    2 teams: 1A, 1B team*, or two balanced B teams

o    3 teams: 1A, 1B and 1C team*

·         U14 and up: The number of teams in these divisions will be based on registration numbers and evaluation input

o    2 teams: 1A, 1B team

Player Releases

Whether your player was released from Strathmore, or to Strathmore, or simply played in Strathmore but belong to another home association, there are new procedures outlined by Ringette Alberta and our Zone 2 regarding these situations.  If you are interested in a release for whatever reason, the process begins with registering with your home association, then with RAB policies, Zone 2 policies and Home association's policies each situation will be discussed and decided upon.

Just to be sure everyone understands:

Athletes must register with their home associations first.  The boundaries, if you are unclear on them, are posted on the Zone 2 website.   http://www.zone2ringette.ca/bylaws.html
