FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
|
What division and/or conference will you play in?
Because the football program does not have varsity status, we will not be in an NCAA division or conference for the forseeable future. Instead, our club team will play in a semi-professional league called the Northeast Independent Football League (NIFL).
|
Why a semi-pro league?
Because football at UVM is not a varsity sport, we are not allowed an NCAA schedule. And, since there are no established leagues for collegiate club football, we decided to join an established semipro football league. It also helped that the University of Maine, another collegiate club team, play in the same semipro league.
|
Does this mean UVM is moving toward having a varsity team?
No, not at all. Football is a very expensive investment and, to the best of our knowledge, the University is not in a position to make such an investment at this time. Decisions on varsity football are soley up to the UVM Trustees and Athletic Department, so they are the ones to call to say you support football.
The football club was started because a group of UVM students wanted to play football. We thank the Athletic Dapartment for assisting us with trainers and travel accomodations, but we do not have any influence on decisions regarding varsity sports in any way.
