Roster Form
Click here for roster form.

This must be turned in 15 minutes prior to your game time. It is required that every child play at least 50% of the game. Failure to give at least 50% playing time could result in suspension for the coach.

The only time this is not required is when a player misses practice, is injured or ill. Parents must agree to this by signing the bottom of the roster prior to the game. If the player is absent from the game make a note on the bottom of the form.

Selection of Coaches, Team Picks and Draft Procedures

Thanks to all the coaches that responded to the League’s request to coach this season. It's a large but greatly rewarding task. You and your time are very much appreciated!!

A few notes for you.............

We are standardizing the player evaluations. This will be discussed during the mandatory coaches meeting.

One coach will be allowed on the field for Freshman & Sophomore tackle leagues for the 1st 2 games.

The rule is now a mandatory 3 point stance, tackle to tackle

Weight limits to run the ball:
            Fresh = 75lbs
            Soph = 90lbs
            Jr = 105lbs
            Sr = 120lbs

We will be utilizing 2 tackle game fields to reduce the length of days, Monday games will be conducted only as needed.

Only 3 reserve players are allowed (coach's child/children do count in this number).

The WFL requires that all coaches, including your assistant coaches, complete a coaches application and background check. The authorization is on the coaches application. HERE

Selection of Coaches:

All Head Coaches in the Wylie Football League must be twenty-one (21) years of age and of good moral character. Any exception to age requirement will require Board approval.

A minimum of eight (8) weeks prior to the first designated practice session or league function  per each season; the Board shall begin accepting applications from the persons desiring to participate as a coach in the Wylie Football League.

The applications shall be designed to reflect the qualifications of the applicant. The application, when completed, shall show the number of years of coaching experience with the names and dates of the teams coached, and number of years of playing experience with the names and dates of the teams for which the applicant played, and the application shall require a short narrative of the applicant's coaching philosophy. Based on the information available, the Board shall determine the applicant's qualifications.

In examining the applicant's qualifications, the Board may call the applicant for a personal interview. In addition, the Board may, for purposes of determining the applicant's qualifications, request assistance from qualified persons from outside the Wylie Football League.

The names of all assistant coaches shall be submitted by the Head Coach to the Board for approval. There shall be no more than two (2) official assistant coaches to a team.

Coaches who have been assigned to a team by the Board shall attend all meetings, schools, clinics, or workshops designated by the Board as "mandatory". These clinics shall include items that need yearly review by coaches at all levels of responsibility; such as first aid, rule changes and review, fund raising procedures, and coaching techniques. A Head Coach or his assistant coach, representing their team, who miss a mandatory meeting, shall be subject to disciplinary action.

All coaches must sign, and have on file with the Wylie Football League Secretary, a Coaches Application, Coaches Agreement, and Code of Conduct form, and agreement for background check prior to assignment to a team as Head Coach or assistant.

Assignment of Teams

Teams shall be assigned to head coaches on the following basis:

A returning head coach shall have first choice on the team he coached the preceding year. Seniority shall prevail in team assignments if all other factors are equal. Seniority is defined as complete seasons of participation as a coach or board member of Wylie Football League. Any Head Coach abandoning his team during the season without Board approval shall forfeit all earned seniority immediately.

For each season a coach or Board member is inactive in the league, he or she shall lose seniority in the reverse order from which it was gained.

Seniority credits shall be earned as follows:

1. Head Coach - One (1) per year
2. Board Member - One (1) per year
3. First, Second and Third Assistant one-half (½) per year

After three (3) years consecutive experience, all assistants shall receive one (1) credit per year thereafter. Any person finishing the year at a position affording a higher seniority than the position held at the start of the year shall earn seniority at the higher rate provided the promotion was Board approved.

The Head Coach must notify the Secretary and furnish required information in order for records to be kept. It shall be the duty of the Secretary to establish and maintain seniority records on all coaches.

Draft Procedures

Each Head Coach will be provided a list of players for their respective league that they are evaluating. The Head Coach may use that list to determine his draft order or selection of players that are eligible to be drafted.

Players who were unable to attend the evaluations, or register the day of evaluations, will be eligible for the draft but they will be randomly selected by the coaches picking their number out of a hat, box, or basket (blind draft).

Selection of Team name and draft order:

Each league will randomly draw out of a basket their draft selection. The person-drawing number one will have the number one (1) draft pick and preference to team name and color. The person drawing number two will have the number two (2) draft picks and so on and so forth.

However, a Head Coach, who is returning to the same league, in accordance with the seniority rules, has priority if he chooses to select his same team name and colors. The Coach can choose his team name and colors before his designated draft pick but he cannot draft a player until his regular selected draft order.

A Head Coach, who has played in the WFL, and has moved one level up in league play, may also choose his team name and colors before his designated draft pick but he cannot draft a player until his regular selected pick. An Assistant Coach, who has played in the WFL, may keep the team name and colors of his previous team but isn’t awarded the opportunity to move up from his selected draft order.

Number of pre-selected draft picks:

If a head coach and/or assistant coach(es) or team parent have children playing on their team, they must declare them before the draft is started. If a Head Coach has a child declared then the first draft pick is his child. The next draft pick is the 1st Assistant Coach's child and so on and so forth. The Head Coach could possibly have up to three (3) draft picks selected before the regular draft.

If the head Coach doesn’t have a child but his assistant coaches have a child then the head coach retains the first pick but doesn’t have a second or subsequent pick depending on the number of assistants he may have. The head coach may also declare a Team Parent as one of his assistants and use his/her child as a draft pick. The team parent is not required to be an on field coach or attend all the team practices.

If the Head Coach or the Assistants have multiple children then the head coach or assistants/team parent's child each count as a draft pick with the maximum being three (3).

Conducting the draft:

The draft will be conducted by members of the WFL board and is open to the Head Coaches, Assistants and Team Parent. A member from the board will ask each head coach to name their assistant coaches, team parent (if applicable) and pre-selected players.

The member will have each coach select a number from out of the basket, hat, or box. The number will be that teams draft selection order. The member will then inform each coach of the draft order. At that time, the board member will take into account the seniority of each coach and seed each coach by draft and seniority for team name and colors.

The board member will then seed each coach by draft order and pre-selected players. The board member then will announce the start of the draft and the modified draft order to take into account coaches with pre-selected players.

The board member will then call on a coach to select a player from the draft. The coach may select any player that attended the evaluations using any criteria they wish. Once the coach has made the selection, then that selection is final! However, if a head coach decides to trade with another coach and both coaches agree and the rest of the coaches don’t object then they may trade. The trade must take place no later than the first five minutes after the final player is selected and the WFL Board declares the draft over.

After the draft, the board member will be responsible for making sure that each team has an equal number of players and will finalize the rosters.

Special rules:

A Coach may take more than one player during a single selection if the players are blood related, related by marriage, or are living in the same household, and the parents made a specific request to keep the children together. The board will only allow a coach to use his regular pick and his next pick to keep the family together.

This rule doesn’t apply to friends, cousins (not living together), car pool teammates or any other circumstances the parents may have.
