LAST LAFF WINS CHICORA LEAGUE TITLE

On Tuesday August 15, in Game 1 of the Chicora League Championship Series. The Chicora Moose edged the Last Laff by a score of 9-8. Tyler Callihan provided a 3 run blast for the winners while Erik Fuhrer and Sluggo Smith each launched solo shots. Nathan McCollough hit a single and double for Moose, and Brent Bell chipped in two singles. For the losers, Chris Miller had a two run shot while Doug Rodgers and Travis Bellis each hit solos.

The action continued on Wednesday August 16 in Game 2 of the CLCS. From the onset, it looked like Moose would coast to a victory, jumping out to an 8-0 lead in the top of the 1st. Sluggo Smith led the charge with a solo blast to dead center that landed somewhere near Oakland Township School. Tyler Callihan, Dayne O'Donnell, and Chad Bell each had extra base hits in the inning as well. The Moose would extend their lead to 14-3 by the top of the 6th. But, somehow the Last Laff exploded for a 12 run 6th inning to take the lead 15-14. Shawn Bellis and Dave Craig each had key extra base hits in the inning. The Moose was not done yet though. In the top of the 7th the Moose tallied 4 runs to take a 3 run lead. Smith and Erik Fuhrer hit back to back doubles in the frame. Finally, in the bottom of the 7th, Jim Harmon and Chris Dietrich led off with singles and Brian Horner knocked them in with a triple to the left center gap. Travis Bellis drove Horner in to tie and Craig later drove in the game winner with a hit to the right center gap.

On Thursday August 17, The Last Laff jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first and never trailed en route to a 7-5 victory. The Moose challenged several times but the Last Laff's defense stepped it up, turning 3 double plays in the game. Top hitters for the winners were Dave Craig with a homerun and a triple and Travis Bellis with a triple and a single. Tyler Callihan homered for the Moose and Brian Hobaugh had an inside the park homerun as well. With the win, The Last Laff leads the 5 game series 2-1.

On Tuesday August 22, The Last Laff beat The Moose 14-12 to secure the league championship. It was close for most of the game until the Last Laff used a 6 run 5th inning to break a tie and take a 6 run lead. The Moose battled back though, scoring 3 in the 6th and 3 in the 7th to cut the lead to 2. Top hitters for the winners were Mike Fleeger and David Hilderbrand each going 4 for 4. Fleeger had a homer, 2 doubles, and a single. Hilderbrand had 2 doubles and 2 singles. Chris Miller, Dave Craig, Jim Harmon, and Beau Rattigan each had extra base hits in the game also. For The Moose, Nathan McCollough had 2 triples and 2 doubles, Jason McCollough had 2 doubles and a single, Andrew "Larrytime" Larimore had a triple, double and a single, and Sluggo Smith hit a 2 run blast in the top of the 7th to cut the lead to 2, after being walked 4 consecutive times before that. The homerun marked Smith's league leading 20th homerun on the season.

The championship is the first one for the team since being sponsored by the Last Laff, and the second one in team history. The other one was in 1997 for the Chestnut Street Inn. It was the Moose's first trip to the championship series in their 5 year team history.

SEMI FINAL RESULTS

In Game 1 of the semi final round, Chicora Moose (South #1) beat Armstrong Beer (North #2) by a score of 9-5. Several homeruns were hit in the game including shots by Erik Fuhrer, Sluggo Smith, Mark Flick, Richie Toy, and Jason McCollough. Any further details would be appreciated.

In Game 1 of the other semi final matchup, Last Laff (North #1) nipped Long's Market (South #2) by a score of 9-8. Long's led for most of the game jumping out to a 5-0 lead in the 1st, and extending that lead to 8-1 in the top of the 5th. But the Last Laff rallied with a 3 run homer by David Hilderbrand in the bottom of the 5th to cut the lead to 8-4. Then, in the bottom of the 6th after singles by Mike Fleeger, Travis Bellis, and Ronny Harnish, Keith "Dingo" Lehman hit a base clearing triple to tie the game. Brian Horner then drove Dingo in for the game winning RBI.

On Tuesday August 8th, in Game 2 action, Moose knocked off Armstrong 24-13 to secure a trip to the championship series. In the other semi final game Long's evened the series at 1-1 by winning 9-7 over Last Laff. Dave Cushey homered to lead Long's to victory. Long's will play Last Laff Thursday in Game 3 to decide who will face Moose in the Championship.

On Thursday August 10th, The Last Laff hung on to defeat Long's Market 9-7 in Game 3 of the Semi Finals. With the win, The Last Laff will face The Chicora Moose in the Chicora Area Softball League Finals next week. Todd Mellish homered for Long's in the 1st, while Chris Miller hit two run homer to break a 6-6 tie in the bottom of the 5th.

1ST ROUND OF PLAYOFF RESULTS

In first round playoff action, on Monday July 31st, The Chicora Moose (South Division, Seed #1) defeated Jo - De Pizza (South Division, Seed #4) by a score of 17-5. Erik Fuhrer, Josh "Sluggo" Smith, and Jason McCollough each homered to power their team to victory. Also, on Monday July 31st, Armstrong Beer (North Division, Seed #2) edged The County Line Tavern (North Division, Seed #3) by a score of 11-10. No further details were available. In Tuesday August 1st action, Long's (South Division, Seed #2) beat Toaster's (South Division, Seed #3) 7-5; Moose (South #1) beat Jo De Pizza (South #4) 18-6; and Last Laff (North #1) beat VFW (North #4) 24-7. Sluggo Smith and Tyler Callihan both had Homeruns to lift Moose to victory. With the win, Moose advances to the semi finals and will most likely play the winner of the Armstrong Beer / County Line series. Travis Bellis hit his 7th Homerun of the season to help the Last Laff to their victory. Any other details of any games would be greatly apprecicated.

The first round of the playoffs continued Wednesday August 2nd. Long's (South #2) topped Toaster's (South #3) 15-3. Long's advances to the semi finals and will most likely play the winner of the Last Laff / VFW series.

In the last game of the first round, Last Laff outlasted VFW 8-4 in a tight battle. The win boosts Last Laff to the second round against Long's Market.

TOASTER'S WINS JULY 1ST TOURNAMENT

Despite some scheduling problems, we were able to get the entire 6 team tournament done in one day using the 7 Hills and St. Wendelin's fields. Toaster's Saloon (Chicora League) won the championship, going undefeated in the tournament, beating Otto's Outlaws (Clarion County League) in the finals. The official order of finish is as follows:

1st Place: Toaster's Saloon (Chicora League) 3-02nd Place: Otto's Outlaws (Clarion League) 3-2
3rd Place: County Line Tavern (Chicora League) 2-2
4th Place: Chicora Moose (Chicora League) 1-2

AFC Wins Memorial Day Weekend Tournament

AFC from the Field House League won the Memorial Day weekend tournament at 7 Hills Road. In the first round, The Chicora Moose beat Merchants, and AFC beat The Last Laff 13-8. Then, in the losers bracket, The Last Laff beat Merchants 13-4. In the King Seat Game, AFC knocked off the Moose. After that The Last Laff beat Moose 12-9. Finally, AFC beat the Last Laff in the championship 13-11. A good time was had by all. Special thanks goes out to Jeff Tait of the Merchants, who umpired a total of 3 games behind the plate, including the championship.

Chicora Teams Knocked Out Early From Field House Tournament

GR Mitchell's came through the losers bracket late Saturday and all of Sunday to defeat Star Grill twice to win the championship. The tournament's final money spot went to heavy underdog, Class C- Merchants.
