MASA COED Rules
1) MASA Spring / Summer Rules remain applicable for Fall Ball !!!
2) Twenty Player Roster - NO ELIGIBILITY
3) NO ROSTER CHANGES - unless of injury with doctor's note
4) Proper MASA Fall Ball Picture ID Required (Orange Card)
5) Game Times - 6:30, 7:45
6) Games - 7 innings - 1 hour 20 min time limit - NO 1 PITCH
7) Softball Wood Bats for Men - MASA Approved Bats for Women
8) Ball - Dudley Thunder SY
9) Each team supplies a ball for the game
10) Ball Count - 1 Ball & 1 Strike
a) with 1 Courtesy Foul For the Women
b) No Courtesy Foul for the guys (Summer Rules apply)
11) Line up - Game can start with 9 players on the field.
(Must have more Females than Males)
Example:
9 Players - 4 Men & 5 Women (NO automatic out after 9th batter)
10 Players - 5 Men & 5 Women or 4 Men & 6 Women
11 Players - 5 Men & 6 Women
12 Players - 6 Men & 6 Women or 5 Men & 7 Women
Cannot have more Men than Women on the field or in the lineup.
Batting Order must alternate gender. Doesn't matter whether a male or female bats first, but it alternates from that point on.
Courtesy Runner, Injured players, Substitutions should be of the same gender under normal game conditions, unless the MASA shorthanded override rule is applied which allows for 9 or 11 players being used, the higher number of eligible players must be female.
Walks - The ball is dead. A walk to a male batter will result in a two (2) base award. The next batter (a female) shall bat.
EXCEPTION: With two (2) outs, the female batter has the option to walk or bat, only after the male batter has walked.
Defensive Alignment - Ten Players are on defense. In the outfield, two are male and two are female. In the infield, two are male and two are female. Teams may then play these defensive players in any position they choose.
The only restriction is if the pitcher is male the catcher must be female and if the pitcher is female the catcher must be male. Unless you are playing more females than males.
Infield Fly - MASA override rule in effect. Once announced Infield Fly or Infield Fly if fair ,The ball is DEAD and the batter is out and runners may not advance.
Ejections - A team cannot continue play shorthanded as the result of a ejection. MASA shorthanded rule cannot be applied if there is an ejection. There must be a eligible replacement for the ejected individual - Male for Male & Female for Female, Female for an ejected Male is NOT acceptable under these circumstances.
Interference and Obstruction - MASA has a severe penalty for interference or obstruction which may be applied if the umpire deems necessary as outlined below.
Any player running into a defensive player at any time, regardless of where the fielder is stationed, with or without the ball, may be ejected from the ball game. It is the runner's responsibility to avoid a collision. If the fielder is creating an obstruction, the umpire will make the call.
Sportsmanship - MASA has severe penalties for unsportsmanlike behavior and it will not be tolerated.
Alcoholic Beverages are NOT ALLOWED in dugout, playing area or fields.
