Cup Dedications
First photo:
The Russell Cup, named after former rink manager Russell DiPietro, was dedicated at the conclusion of Game One of the A league final. Russell served as the rink manager up from its opening in the mid 90s to 2004. The cup was named after him in 2007. This was his first visit to the rink since he left.

The Lee Myers Memorial Cup is dedicated in memory of former rink patron Lee Myers. This cup is for the B league and was dedicated at the conclusion of Game 1 of the B league finals. Lee lost his life in the mid 2000s after battling cancer. He most notably played with Your Mom (the team). Accepting the dedication on behalf of the family was his dad, Bud Myers.
We thank everyone for their participation during the dedications.
Overall MVP: Steve Poulton:Steve Poulton becomes the third player in New Castle rink history to capture both a roller trophy (Lee Myers) and the Switzer Cup (Footer Trophy). (Previous to him, Chris Pesce and Dan Faraoni captured Russell and Switzer). He net-minded every game for the Wildebeests, all but three for the Unit and filled in for many teams throughout the course of the year. His overall record finished above .500.
Roller MVP: Scott McKee: During the Spring and Summer sessions, Scott led both sessions and both leagues in scoring. A former Mahoning Valley Phantom, Scott plans to return next summer from college and pick up where he left off.
Footer MVP: Chris Pesce: Chris led the Spring and Fall in league scoring and is always a double threat on offense and one of the best backcheckers in the league. Not far behind him in scoring is his teammate Dan Foley.
Best Goalie of the Year: Andy Palumbo: Boasting some ridiculous save percentage, Andy finishes as goalie of the year, capturing all three Russell Cups and coming up especially big in the Angry Pirates/Polish Club Series in the summer.
Rookie of the Year: Joey Anastasia: A sophomore at New Castle High School, Joey took his first year at New Castle hockey and became one of the top offensive threats on his teams.
Most Improved Player of the Year:James HardingHarding has come a long way from where he was last year. From playing the man to playing smart, positional two way hockey. His shot has dramatically improved as well.
The YMCA Values Award: Michelle Lutz I've spent five minutes trying to think of anyone who at one point or another this year hasn't lost their cool. She wins, end of story.
Best Defenseman: Aaron Lewis: This was a tough one to select. Aaron still remains the best defenseman in the league with his quick outlet ability and good positioning. Honorable mentions to Matt Orres, Matt Cosgrove, and Sig.
Most Improved Team of the Year Roller: Dipskate They have come from a walk in to an elite competitor. Look for this franchise to consistently make runs for the Lee Myers over the next few years. Honorable mention to Gear, although you played pretty consistent all along.
Most Improved Team of the Year Footer: The Unit The result of the Chinchilla franchise, they have gone from a .500 competitor to two trips to the finals, one loss and one win.
