ABOUT OFBA
 
Oak Forest Baseball Association (OFBA) is a non-profit 501(c) 3 charitable organization made up entirely of volunteers.  OFBA has an agreement with the Oak Forest Park District and works in collaboration with them for field maintenance.  OFBA is paid for by registration fees and by many fundraising efforts.

VOLUNTEERS
Volunteering is vital to the success and viability of OFBA.  This organization cannot run without the help of each parent or family member doing their part.  Without volunteers, we cannot exist. 
 

This year each family must volunteer for three (3) opportunities during the baseball season. 

Every family must work a MANDATORY (2) shifts in the concession stand.  Listed below are the ways family members can volunteer to reach the three mandatory opportunities. Only Pony players are exempt from Volunteering and Concessions.

IN-HOUSE BASEBALL
 
“In-House" baseball is the core reason for OFBA to exist.  Any individual between the ages of 4 - 14 has the opportunity to play organized baseball.  We have over 500 kids making up almost 50 teams. Our divisions and their age limitations are as follows: 
 
2016 SEASON
T-Ball
  • 4-6 Year Olds 
  • Pre-K to Kindergarten 
  • Play at Ridge School Fields and Scarlet Oaks School 
  • Birth Dates: September 1, 2009 - August 31, 20011
Pinto
  • 7-8 Year Olds 
  • 1st & 2nd Grade 
  • Play at Ridge School Fields 
  • Birth Dates: September 1, 2007 - August 31, 2009
Mustang
  • 9-10 Year Olds 
  • 3rd & 4th Grade 
  • Play at Convent Park and Tower Park fields 
  • Birth Dates: September 1, 2005 - August 31, 2007
Bronco
  • 11-12 Year Olds 
  • 5th & 6th Grade 
  • Play at Convent Park and travels to other local towns 
  • Birth Dates: September 1, 2003 - August 31, 2005
Pony
  • 13-14 Year Olds 
  • 7th & 8th Grade 
  • Play at Central Park, Shooters and will travel to local towns 
  • Birth Dates: September 1, 2001 - August 31, 2003
November – Early Registration with early discounts
January – Regular Registration
***These registration dates give the Board reasonable time to plan and prepare for the upcoming season.
 
Batting Cages
  • Hit for $1
  • Must be registered for the next season
  • Beginning in November
  • Open Tuesdays 
Manager selection
  • Sign up forms to volunteer to manage are available during registration. 
  • Each manager and coach must submit to a Criminal Background Check.  
  • Don’t think you have the time to commit to manage a team, consider that there are many parents willing to help. 
  • It can be a wonderful experience for you to share time with you own child as well as to make a difference in others lives. 
  • Haven’t coached before, we have a coaching clinic each early spring and there are plenty of experienced coaches in OFBA to help. 
  • Manager evaluations - at the end of each season, parents on each team are asked to evaluate their manager in several categories. This evaluation is part of the basis for selecting managers.  
  • Final manager approval and selection will be done by the OFBA Board in February.
Player Draft
  • Late February, managers will meet by division and draft players. 
  • Managers are informed of a player’s previous history by evaluation forms that show the players ranking by his/her previous managers.  
  • We encourage an attempt to get as equal teams as possible. 
  • Draft day is also the opportunity to facilitate the following; 
  • Special placement requests such as “buddy”, car pool, friend manager, etc, are NOT allowed.
  • Relative placement (brother, sister, cousin) are allowed and will be accommodated per request,
  • Parents are reminded that no manager should suggest to you that your child will be on his team.
  • Any special request to not be placed with a particular manager should be noted on your registration form.
Games and Practices
  • March - Team practice begins in the batting cages.  
  • April - Team practice outside begins 
  • Mid April through June – Regular Season Games
  • Late June - Playoff Games.  
  • OFBA cannot guarantee that all scheduled games will be played if the weather does not cooperate. 
  • Every effort will be made to re-schedule rain outs.  
  • Games are scheduled;
    • Weekdays (except Wednesdays) at 5:45 pm 
    • Saturdays at 10:00am, 12:30pm, 3:00pm, 5:30pm or 8:00pm.  
Uniforms and Equipment
  • OFBA provides an official MLB team jersey, pants, socks and hats. 
  • OFBA provides a team equipment bag with batting helmets, catchers gear, ice packs, etc.
  • Purchasing a personal batting helmet is recommended for hygiene purposes.
  • Each player will need to provide his/her own glove, bat and cup (boys). 
All Star Game
  • Late June, each team will select 2-3 players to represent their team in the annual All-Star game. 
  • The manager will select, at their discretion, within the limitations that the player has not played part-time travel and are not playing July all-stars, and will be moving up to the next division.
Picnic
  • August - Each year OFBA has a picnic for the players and their families at Central Park or at the Convent fields
  • Jumpies, Games, Music
  • Raffle Tickets winners announced.
  • 50/50 Raffles
  • Bean Bag tournament
Pictures
  • April – a scheduled day and time will be communicated to each team.
  • Each player will take an individual and a team picture.
  • Picture packets with pricing will be provided to each family. 
Umpires
  • OFBA is proud to have its own internal umpire program. 
  • We provide spring / summer jobs to over 30 kids in the community each year. 
  • Training and equipment are provided.
  • Kids can start at 14 years old. Sign up to umpire at Registration.
 
TRAVEL BASEBALL
OFBA offers, in addition to the In-house baseball, optional travel baseball. Travel Baseball is designed to offer the more developed players an opportunity to play more games and against similarly organized teams.  See Travel By-laws for further information.
 
Part-time Travel
All players who participate in Part-time travel must also play in-house baseball.  The emphasis for part-time travel will be on the development of the players and their enjoyment of the game. 
 
Try-outs
  • February each year
  • In the batting cages
  • Player evaluations for hitting, fielding, throwing and pitching are done by the OFBA Board.
  • Age levels;
    • 8U – player must play 2nd year Pinto In-house 
    • 9U – player must play 1st year Mustang In-house 
    • 10U – player must play 2nd year Mustang In-house 
    • 11U – player must play 1st year Bronco In-house 
    • 12U – player must play 2nd year Bronco In-house 
    • 13U – player must play 1st year Pony In-house 
    • 14U - player must play 2nd year Pony In-house 
Manager Selection
  • Intent letter submitted to OFBA Board before February.
  • OFBA Board will interview and select Manager prior to the try-out. 
  • Manager will be present at the try-outs and will select the team.
The season
  • March - Team Practice begins in the Batting cages.
  • April through June – Games on Wednesdays and Sundays.  In-house games are not scheduled on these days.
  • Travel to local Chicagoland towns to play other Part-time travel teams.
  • Limited number of games to protect the young players arms from injury.
Costs
  • Approximately $150-$200
  • Uniforms, League fees, Umpires, Equipment.
 
July All-Stars
July All-Stars is separate from Part-time Travel and the In-house All-star game. This is done as to allow those who do not wish to continue to play into July due to vacations or other obligations the flexibility to still play part-time travel. 
 
Try-outs
  • Early June each year
  • Player evaluations for hitting, fielding, throwing and pitching are done by the OFBA Board.
  • Age levels;
    • 8U – player must have played 2nd year Pinto In-house 
    • 9U – player must have played 1st year Mustang In-house 
    • 10U – player must have played 2nd year Mustang In-house 
    • 11U – player must have played 1st year Bronco In-house 
    • 12U – player must have played 2nd year Bronco In-house 
    • 13U – player must have played 1st year Pony In-house 
    • 14U - player must have played 2nd year Pony In-house 
Manager Selection
  • Intent letter submitted to OFBA Board before May.
  • OFBA Board will interview and select Manager prior to the try-out. 
  • Manager will be present at the try-outs and will select the team.
Tournaments
  • Team Practice begins right after the team is selected.
  • Three (3) local tournaments.  
  • Age 8-12, one tournament being the Oak Forest Battle in the Burbs.
  • Age 13-14, three (3) local tournaments. 
  • Travel to local Chicagoland towns to play other Part-time travel teams in competitive tournaments.
Costs
  • Less than $100 if you played Part-time travel.
  • Approximately $150-$200 if you did not play Part-time travel.
  • Uniforms, Tournament fees, Equipment.
 
Full-time Travel  
All players who participate in Full-time travel do not play in-house baseball, part-time travel or July all-stars.  The emphasis for full-time travel will be on the development of the players to play against other very competitive travel teams, the enjoyment of the game and to be ready for high school baseball. 
 
Try-outs
  • August each year
  • Player evaluations for hitting, fielding, throwing and pitching are done by the OFBA Board.
  • Age levels;
    • 11U – player must have played in OFBA the previous season.
    • 12U – player must have played in OFBA the previous season.
    • 13U – Open tryout, but 60% of players must have played in OFBA the previous season.
    • 14U – Open tryout, but 60% of players must have played in OFBA the previous season.
Manager Selection
  • Intent letter submitted to OFBA Board before August.
  • OFBA Board will interview and select Manager prior to the try-out. 
  • Manager will be present at the try-outs and will select the team.
The season
  • August through October - Team Practice outside (at Managers discretion).
  • November through March – Team Practice in the batting cages.
  • 11U & 12U - Play 45 – 55 games and travel to other baseball organization and play against very competitive full-time travel teams.
  • Some out of state/overnight travel to tournaments.
    • 12U - team will travel to Cooperstown, New York and play in the Cooperstown Dream Park tournament.
    • Extensive Fundraising will be done to travel to Cooperstown.
  • 13U & 14U - Play 50 – 60 games and travel to other local baseball organizations and play against very competitive full-time travel teams.
  • Some out of state/overnight travel to tournaments.
Costs
  • Approximately $600-$800
  • Uniforms, League fees, Tournaments, Umpires, Equipment.

 

FALL BASEBALL

OFBA offers Fall Baseball to those players that want to continue developing their game.  Fall Ball begins at the end of August and goes through October or until the weather no longer cooperates.  Players must register for the division that they will be in the following season. Fall Ball is a great way for players to learn the new rules at the level that they will be going into the following season.
