Do I have to be able to tumble in order to make the Cheerleading Squad?

NO, you do not have to tumble. If you have tumbling skills, then by all means, show us what you've got at tryouts. Obviously, the harder tumbling skills that you acquire, the more points you will gain in this category of judging for tryouts.

What cheer /material are we suppose to preform at tryouts?

You will be learning the material for tryouts during the tryout week, which will be taught to you by the VBHS Seniors.

Can we have copies of our Teacher Evaluation forms once our teacher complete them?

NO, The Teacher Evaluation Forms are shredded immediately after the score is logged from the form.

Can I be involved in other extracurricular activities, and still be on the cheerleading team?

YES, as long as VBHS cheerleading comes FIRST! All practices, events, competitions, banquet and games are mandatory. You cannot miss a cheerleading function for a different activity.

What if I am on a dance team, but would also like to be on the cheerleading squad. Can I do both?

Again, YES, as long as VBHS cheerleading comes FIRST! All practices, events, competitions, banquet and games are mandatory. You cannot miss a cheerleading function for a different activity.

We have a family vacation scheduled in July, is this excused for missing practices?

YES, as long as your vacation dates do not interfere with UCA camp and that your vacation dates were turned in by an e-mail to Mrs. Kouns, from your parent, ahead of time.

If I obtain an injury that prevents me from participating at practice, do I still need to come to practice?

YES, you will still need to attend practice and dress out, unless you have been given prior permission not to attend.

If I make the team and then quit, will I be able to tryout next season?

No one is ever denied the opportunity to start the tryout process BUT, for an example: If you were on the Varsity team and quit, then tried out the next season for Varsity, you may be given the opportunity to make the Junior Varsity team, but not the Varsity level.

What if I did not cheer last season on the VBHS squad, but wanted to tryout this year, could I make the team?

Absolutely, if you have the skills, talent and score high enough to make the team at tryouts.

Is the UCA Summer Cheer camp mandatory if you are on the team?

YES, make sure you check the camp dates on this website calendar.

How can I submit a new question?

Look at the menu on the left hand side and click on “Coaching Staff”. Then click on Coach Kouns’s email and submit your question. OR, you may ask your question in the "MESSAGE BOARD" area, it it will be answered as well as added to this list.

Can I choose to cheer for football only or competition only, if I make the team?

YES. All athletes who make the JV or Varsity football squads will cheer for football games. If you want to compete, you do not have to tryout again.  If you want to tryout for the competition squad only, you may choose do so.

What can I be working on now, to help my chances on making the football cheerleading team?

Work on your jumps, push-ups (the correct push-up form), and sharp, correct motion and dance technique.  Your grades will also be evaluated as well as Teacher Evaluations. 

What if one girl makes the team but she plans on attending Charter next year, will she be able to cheer?

Yes, we have had Charter School students on the squad in the past and it works out fine, as long as you make your schedule work around cheerleading practices, Pep Rally's and cheerleading functions.

Where will the JV information be posted before and after tryouts?

The JV information will be posted on the Varsity Web Site.

If a cheerleader was on Varsity last year, does that mean that they are automatically on Varsity this year?

No. Everyone starts tryouts on a clean slate. No one is guaranteed a spot on either squad.

How much does it cost to be on the VBHS cheerleading squad?

There is no cost for competition fees, hotels, travel, gas, and food for the athletes on the team. These funds are generated through our fundraising events.

The initial start up fees include $280.00 for UCA Cheer Camp, and the cost for camp/practice clothes, shoes and warm-ups that you may need.

A fee of $25.00 per month will be needed for our tumbling coach that comes to the gym once a week.

What if I cannot make the first parent/cheerleader meeting, is there any important information I need to know?

You would need to pick up the cheerleading tryout package from the VBHS Main campus from Mrs. Kouns, because these forms are due the week of tryouts. You will also need a copy of a current physical. The forms are located in my office, in the Administrative building on the main campus.
