SPORTSMANSHIP: Sportsmanship is defined as conduct becoming to a sportsman rivalry and graceful acceptance of results.

CODE OF ETHICS

The Board of Directors of the Carrollton/Farmers Branch Little League (CFBLL) has mandated the following Code of Ethics. All coaches, managers, umpires, and league officials will be held accountable to this Code of Ethics. Any member of the CFBLL found in violation of this Code of Ethics is subject to disciplinary actions up to and including expulsion from the league and its activities..

(Manager, Coach, Player, Spectator and Umpires)

MANAGERS AND COACHES --- Coaches shall be expected to adhere to the following provisions. Any coach expelled from any game by an Umpire or Director shall attend the next scheduled Board of Director's meeting to review the matter and face possible disciplinary action.

q       No coach shall criticize a player in such a manner as to hold him up to ridicule of other baseball players or spectators.

q       NO SMOKING on the field or in the dugout during a game.

q       Appear at games or practice while in an intoxicated state at any time. Intoxicated will be defined as an odor or behavior issue.

q       It shall be the duty of the manager to see to it that NO ONE but players and approved coaches occupies the player's bench or dugout. All players not on the field should remain inside the dugout during the game.

q       Little League Baseball is for the youngsters. Coaches are to make themselves as inconspicuous as possible. Too much interference by adult personnel delays and detracts from the game.

q       Coaches are not permitted on the playing field during a game except during a timeout request to have a pitchers mound conference.

q       Managers and Coaches are expected to conduct themselves with the dignity associated with their position and so as to set a good example for the players.

q       It shall be the duty of the Manager and Coach to secure the cooperation of his players and player’s parents in carrying out the provisions of this code.

PLAYERS --- Players may be expelled from any game by an Umpire for disrespectful conduct toward any coach, umpire, spectator, and fellow player or for the violation of any of the following rules. Such player shall be restricted to his team's bench for the remainder of the game and shall be prohibited from participating in his team's next game as a player or base coach, but must dress and be present at the game.

Disrespectful conduct shall include but is not limited to:

q       Abusive or profane language.

q       Handling of playing equipment in such a manner to indicate displeasure.

q       Gesture in such a manner to indicate displeasure.

q       Refusal to obey orders of game officials or coaches as to equipment, wearing apparel and conduct, while on the field.

q       Any action not consistent with gentlemanly conduct and good sportsmanship.

q       Any attempt to inflict physical or mental harm to another player, spectator or umpire.

q       Disputing a judgment of an umpire or belaboring any decision of an umpire.

UMPIRES --- Umpires are expected to conduct themselves on the field with the dignity associated with their position.

q       It shall also be the duty of the umpires to conduct the game in accordance with the provisions set forth in this code.

q       Any disciplinary action taken by any umpire under this code shall be reported in writing within 24 hours to the Board of Directors.

q       Once the umpire shows up at the field for a scheduled game, he is in charge and his decisions are final. No one, including Board members, will over-rule an umpire at the field.

q       An umpire will give one warning if there is unacceptable behavior by anyone during a game, but if the behavior is determined to be Flagrant Misconduct by the umpire, the individual(s) identified by the umpire will be asked to leave the playing field, spectator area and field complex.

q       Umpires may consult with Board members and/or Managers and coaches regarding interpretation of rules, but the umpire’s decision will be the final decision.

q       Any disciplinary actions against umpires will be discussed at Board meetings only.

SPECTATORS --- Spectators are expected to conduct themselves in the stands and within the complex by following these provisions.

q       At any time, lay a hand upon, push, shove, strike, or threaten (verbally of bodily) to any member of the CFBLL.

q       Be guilty of heaping personal verbal or physical abuse upon any official for any real or imaginary belief of a wrong decision or judgment.

q       Be guilty of an objectionable demonstration of dissent at an official’s decision by throwing of any object of a forceful unsportsmanlike action.

q       Be guilty of the use of profane, obscene or vulgar language in any manner at any time.

q       Appear in the stands, or anywhere on the CFBLL complex while in an intoxicated state at any time. Intoxicated will be defined as an odor or behavior issue.

q       No smoking while in the stands. Smoking will only be permitted in areas, which are outside of the complex grounds away from spectator stands or dugouts.

q       Speak disrespectfully to any manager, coach, official or representative of the league.

q       Shall challenge an umpire’s authority. The umpires shall have the authority and discretion during a game to penalize the offender according to the infraction up to and including removal from the game.

The Board of Directors will review all infractions of the CFBLL Code of Ethics. Depending on the seriousness or frequency, the board may assess additional disciplinary action up to and including expulsion from the league.
