Frequently Asked Questions
What forms do I need to have ready for tryouts?
All student athletes will need to have a physical and an Athletic Clearance Form filled out and on file with the ASB office. The ASB office will give a stamped copy to be turned into the head coach before they can tryout. In addition, the 2012-2013 Handbook Agreement Form which is at the back of the Claremont Baseball Program Handbook also needs to be signed and turned into the head coach.
Where can I get the forms for the program?
All forms are on the Claremont Baseball website under the forms tab. Additional information can be found under the handouts tab. Both are kept up to date.
Does each student interested in trying out need to be at all four tryout days?
Yes, each student athlete must be present all four days.
Do the students have access to athletic lockers to store clothes to change into?
Yes and no. Our student athlete baseball participants can use the locker room to change into their baseball attire. However, they should bring their backpacks and other bags with them to the field. The lockers are locked in the afternoon before practice is over.
Do student athletes need their own bat? Helmet?
No, students do not need their own bat or helmet. Each level has a set of team helmets to use. Other students have bats and they may be willing to share. Just ask before you borrow for batting practice.
Bats don't fit in either the academic or the gym lockers, what should student athletes do with their bat keeping in mind that some of these bats are quite expensive?
Some of our student athletes have been able to store their bat bags in some classrooms depending on the teacher. While other students carry it with them.
What's up with this BBCOR designation on a bat?
BBCOR stands for Batted Ball Core of Restitution. This is the measurement used to determine a balls exit speed following contact. All bats need to have the BBCOR label on them for that bat to be legal.
I understand you encourage parents helping out with the dugout club or other committees but what if the student athlete doesn't make the team, are parents expected to continue?
No. In the event a student athlete does not make a team and his parents had volunteered to participate in the Dugout Club, they will not be required to continue.
When are practices?
Practices are Monday thru Friday from 3:15pm to 5:30pm (end time adjusts with Daylight Savings). All practice times are subject to change.
When are games?
Games are scheduled on Saturdays during the fall. In the spring, games can be on any day but Sunday. Each year our league games move from a Tuesday/Thursday schedule to a Wednesday/Friday schedule. Tournament games and non-league games will be scheduled around those.
What if a student athlete plays fall and/or winter sports, when should he come out/try out?
Student Athletes that are not participating in fall sports are to tryout during September. Those participating in winter sports can tryout during September as well. Those that make the 1st cut can then participate in their winter sport, returning at the conclusion of that season for the final tryout period. Those participating in a fall sport will report to the Varsity field for tryouts the Monday immediately following the conclusion of the fall season.
