    Report on Hatters game
June 1, 2002  --   The new look Phoenix cadettes team had a baptism of fire against a fast, powerful Sheffield Hatters side coached by former Scotland star Ann " Jimmy" Jamieson.

All the Phoenix youngsters got plenty court time and everyone worked hard but the talented Hatters girls proved a little too strong in most areas.
We played well in spells but found it difficult to score consistently against the English team who won comfortably 32-92

Amie Harkins was the team's top scorer on the day with 8 points followed by Mary Melville and Lauren Anderson on 6 apiece, Catriona Bissett and Gillian Renilson hit 4 and Kayleigh Gibson and Carol Slviera on 2 each.

Well done girls this was a great experience for you all and sets the level of basketball we all hope to achieve.

    A Tale of Woe
February 17, 2003  --   Midlothian Saints 47-42 win over Phoenix saw them lift the Scottish Senior Women Championship.
Phoenix started the season with high hopes of going all the way but the loss of several key players at crucial stages of the season meant we were always up against it.

Before a hoop was even shot in earnest starting guards Lynsay Campbell and Kerry Marshall announced they were both expecting babies leaving a huge gap to fill in the back court.

A few games into the season saw Leigh McKenzie badly breaking a finger which kept her on the sidelines until January.

Worse was to come in December when influencial centre Julie Ritchie damaged her knee and required surgery on her cruciate liagment which will keep her out until next season.

Just when it seemed things could not get any worse Shirley Campbell badly sprained an ankle in training and Carol Smillie was sidelined with a damaged shoulder.

Even player-coach Nicky Smith has aggravated an old achilles injury but it is hoped many of these injuries will be on the mend prior to our bid to retain the Scottish Cup which begins in a few weeks time and hopefully ends at the Kelvin Hall Glasgow.

Cadettes win last two League Games
March 2, 2003  --   In the final round of Lothian League games the Phoenix Cadettes won both of their back to back games at Meadowbank this afternoon to finish with an excellent record of six wins and three losses.

The first win, 30-22 over West Lothian Weavers was a superb performance bearing in mind our twenty-four point defeat by the same team a few weeks ago.

The second was an easier game against the young East Lothian Peregrines side and resulted in a comfortable 30-14 with most players getting on the scoresheet.

Well done girls it has been great fun working with you all and we hope you can stay together in the future.
It is hoped to run our own Mini Leagues at Boroughmuir on Monday's after the Easter Break so watch this space.

Jets and Crew through to Final
June 16, 2003  --   Jets and Crew eased into the Play Off Finals with comfortable wins over the Lasers and Sting of 74-26 and 73-36 respectively.

This sets up a real exciting battle of the Giants with Jets keen to overturn their one point defeat the last time these two sides meet.
In the third place game, the Lasers have their last opportunity to chalk up a win against the Sting.

Final Night Programme (Monday 23rd June):

    6.00: 3rd Place Final - Lasers v Sting
    7.00: Final - Jets v Crew
7.45: Quiz Prize giving and plans/discussion for next season.

Please complete your online surveys and quiz answers by Saturday 21st June.

Remind your parents to pick you up around 8.15pm next Monday

Jets Triumph in Mini League Play-off
June 23, 2003  --   Jubilant Jets upset the form book by topling unbeaten favourites The Crew 43-29 in the final game of the Mini Leagues.

Crew badly missed their top scorer Amy Harkins who was unavaliable for this crunch clash but to their credit battled all the way with some intensive defence in the early stages of the gamed before tiredness set in.
Jets finally had too many scoring options, with Vikky Ballantyne top scoring with 12, Mary Melville on 11 and Lois Taylor and Gillian Renilson on 6 each.
Catriona Bissett worked hard to inspire her Crew team and top scored with 12 and was well assisted by Elsbeth Helfer on 8 and Rebecca Dommett on 4.

In the battle for third place Sting pipped the Lasers 49-30 with skipper Stephanie Williamson leading the way with an evening high of 19 followed by Catherine Falconer on 16.
Lasers leader Lauren Anderson had a great game also knocking down 16pts.

Well done to everyone and congratulations on your committment, sportsmanship and sense of fun over the last few months.

Keep checking out the website over the summer as I will be posting details of next seasons arrangements and if you really want to improve your game over the summer check out the new page on coaching tips.

Have a great summer and see you all in August

    New Season Started
September 2, 2003  --   The first Youth and Local league training sessions took place last night at Boroughmuir and an excellent turnout was achieved for both groups.

    Youths 6.00 to 7.30pm
Twenty five girls attended this section and it was great to see so many of last seasons players back with a special welcome to the three new girls, Romy from the Czech Republic, Kirsty from Dallas, Texas and Mhairi increasing the ever growing St Thomas's contingent.

Following discussion with the players the club will enter teams into the Lothians Central Venue Leagues at both Under 16 & 18 age level.

These games are all played at Meadowbank Sports Centre on Sundays from October through to April.
All players wishing to play in these games will be required to register with Basketball Scotland.
The cost of this and entry to the league to cover facility and referee costs will be a one off payment of £25 per player payable when returning registration form.

Monday night sessions will continue to be £1 per week.

All players are reminded to bring this each week and also to return their Consent form next Monday.

We will also be starting up the popular Mini Leagues in October which will run alongside the regular coaching sessions.

Local League Senior 7.30 to 9.30pm
Good to see plenty new faces joining in with this group and it is hoped with the availablity of both halls we can combine both competitive and recreational basketball throughout the season.

Players are reminded this is initially set up as a pay and play session costing £2 per night.
There is plenty room for more players so please spread the word.

    Phoenix Girls in Representative Squads
November 11, 2003  --   The Club is delighted to announce that four of it's young players have recently been selected for representative squads.

Sally Watson hoped to try out for the Edinburgh U13 Squad but so impressed the coaches that she was selected for both the Under 13's and 14's and was invited to join the National Under 15 development group.
Brilliant job - well done Sally.

Megan Grant and Carol Silviera were successful in getting into the Under 14 squad and Ellen Grant has been invited to join the Edinburgh Primary team.

This is a tremendous achievement by all the girls and a great incentive for all the other players within the club.

The Junior(Under 18) season gets under way this Sunday 16th November with two games against Bridge of Allan Bruins (10.00am) and Dunfermline Reign (1.00pm).
After an upbeat training session at Boroughmuir last night the team for these games is as follows:

Catriona Bissett (capt), Morna Hill, Gillian Renilson, Emma Hart, Romy Hricova, Sally Watson, Mary Melville and Rebecca Watson.

All players please report to Meadowbank Sports Centre reception at 9.20am.

Junior Season off to a Flyer
November 16, 2003  --   Phoenix Juniors got their season off to a tremendous start in the Clydedale Bank Central Venue Leagues at Meadowbank today.

Despite the squad being reduced to only six players due to unavailablity of Morna and Gemma they recorded huge wins over Bridge of Allan Bruins (54-4) and Dunfermline Reign (70-9)

All the girls worked really hard defensively and the great bonus was the points spread with everyone sharing in the scoring.

Top scorers on the day was Romy with a total of 30pts followed closly by Catriona on 29 and Sally on 26pts.

Full reports on both games can be found on the Game Results page.

    Kool Kats Stung
November 30, 2003  --   It was mixed fortunes for the Phoenix Cadette teams in the opening round of games in the Under 16 Central Venue Leagues.

First up where the 16's who after a slow start ran out convincing 25-5 winners over Midlothian Saints.

The young 14's faced a baptism of fire against a strong Kool Kats side full of Edinburgh representative players. With many of the girls playing their first ever competitive games it was no surprise to lose 60-11 although there was a marked improvement in their second game when they went down to Saints 36-8. Good effort girls your performances will improve as the season goes on.

The highlight of the day was the 16's victory over a highly rated Kool Kats side. This was a hard fought game and Phoenix well deserved their 24-19 win. - Great job guys!!!

Later on, across town at Wester Hailes the Phoenix Senior team were following the example of the Cadettes with a great 71-59 win over city rivals Kool Kats in the Natonal League.

Point Guard Lynsey Campbell was back to her old form with a game high 20 points with captain Les Jackson on 14 and Leigh McKenzie-Armstrong hitting 13.

This is the teams best performance of the season and puts them back on track in the championship race.

Check out game results for full reports and scorers of all games.

    Saints Slammed
December 9, 2003  --   With the full Team Lochhead in the crowd cheering on mum, Phoenix moved back into contention for the league title with a comprehensive 57-36 win over current leaders St Mirren at Wester Hailes yesterday.

After a low scoring start and only one point in it at half time, Phoenix gradually got their offensive game going and with Les Jackson and Ali Paton dominating the boards at both end of the court ran out convinving winners.

If the team can keep up this defensive intensity and stay fit there is every possibility they will be in amongst the silverware at the end of this season following this performance.

    Report on Edinburgh Tournament 2003
December 22, 2003  --   The Junior and Cadette teams both finished in Runners up spot in the 2003 Edinburgh Basketball Tournament at Meadowbank last weekend.

On Saturday the cadettes opened the tournament with a comfortable 51-16 win over the young Kittens team and in the second game were leading Pentland Star 25-13 with only two minutes to play
when Sally Watson crashed to floor with a painful knee injury that required a trip to the sick kids in a "blizzard".

This certainly put a huge damper on the rest of the team but with only five players left they all decided to play in the tournament decider against Kool Kats.
Despite great efforts from all they finally went down 31-68 at the end of an exhausting and traumatic day.

On Sunday the Juniors were in action and it was great to see Sally cheering the team on from the bench in a wheelchair.

Everyone at the club wishes her a speedy recovery and hope to see her back on court early in the New Year.

In the first game Phoenix faced a young Scotland Development squad and after a slow start Polonia pulled away to a 26-8 win in a low scoring game in the Arctic Hall 3.

Next up were a strong Kool Kats side and in one of the most exciting games of the weekend Phoenix were edged out 23-31.

In the final game the team overcame an initial strong challenge from Pentland Star to win 41-19 with an excellent second half display.

Well done to all the young players for your efforts over the weekend with particular mention to Mary Melville and Rebecca Watson who played in all six games and must be looking forward to a well earned rest over the festive season.

Several Phoenix senior players including Ali Paton, Julie Ritchie, Elise Lovell, Lynsey Campbell, Leigh Armstrong and Shirley Campbell were also in action for the Scottish National team who held off a spirted challenge from the Scottish Juniors to win 80-53.

    Festive cheer to you all

    Juniors triumph in new Uniforms
February 22, 2004  --   Resplendid in their brand new electric-blue uniforms and warm up tops, made possible through the clubs recent succesful Lottery Award, the Phoenix Juniors got back on track with two hard fought wins over West Lothian Weavers and Cumbernauld Chiefs 37-21 and 24-14 respectively.

Full reports of both these games can be found on the Games Results page but all credit to the girls for grinding out two tough victories.

Special mention must go to Rachel Furness who in her Junior debut came off the bench in both matches and hit several vital baskets at crucial stages of the games.

One of the most encouraging aspects of the two games was the points spread with all the players contributing fairly evenly to the scoresheet.

At the half way stage of the leagues Phoenix are currently sitting in top spot of both the Junior and Cadette leagues. Well done to you all but keep up the intensity for the second half of the season.

Listed underneath are the current scoring averages for the season but remember it is not all about scoring and the club is fully aware of all the players who play tough defence, rebound and create opportunities for others.............

    - REMEMBER BASKETBALL IS A TEAM GAME!

Rebecca top scores in Double Win
February 29, 2004  --   In her first games in almost a month, Rebecca Watson stepped up her offensive game to help guide the Cadette 16's to two wins at Meadowbank this afternoon.

With top scorer Romy Hrcovic out with a viral infection and several other players unavailable it was once again a depleted squad that took the court against East Lothian Peregrines in the first game.
Despite a shaky start and losing 3-8 at the first quarter, the team led by Rebecca on 11 points pulled away to win 32-25.

The second game matched up the Phoenix 16's against the younger 14's and with the 16's now reduced to only four players they had to "borrow" 11-year old Meredith McIntosh from the 14's squad to field a starting five.

In a game played in an excellent spirit the 16's edged out their wee sisters 48-13 but the younger players are improving with every game and once they can start putting the ball in the basket more regularly they will soon start to get closer in future games.

    Full reports in Game Results.

The scoring table for the 14's is as follows:

    Seona 16
    Megan 15
    Carol 14
    Vikky 12
    Lauren 9
    Elaine 7
    Jodie 7
    Simone 6
    Ellen 5
    Meridith 5
    Roisin 2

Seniors have to settle for Runner-up spot
February 29, 2004  --   Despite a superb 54-39 away win over Midlothian Saints in the final game of the season, the Senior team has had to settle for runners-up spot in the National League despite having beaten their Midlothian rivals on two out of three occasions this season.

The team are feeling particularly aggrieved as the title would have been theirs if basketballscotland had not ruled that the game against Kool Kats be forfeited back in October when we only had four fit players. Even if the club had lost the game they would have still won the championship as the governing body have even taken away the one point that losing teams are awarded.

This is extremely disappointing for Coach Harris and all the squad who have worked very hard this season and the governing body must rethink their rules on this matter bearing in mind the precarious state of senior women's basketball at present and allow greater flexiblity in what is still very much an amateur sport in Scotland, with clubs operating on very limited budgets and small squad sizes.

On a more positive note the club must now put this behind them and strive for a good Scottish Cup run with their league position seeding them with home advantage right through to the Finals where hopefully they can seek revenge over Midlothian Saints at Meadowbank Stadium on Sunday 4th April.

    Phoenix Youths in Representative Squads
March 23, 2004  --   The club is delighted to announce that several players have been selected for representative squads that will compete for Edinburgh in inter area events over the next few months.

Rebecca Watson, Carol Silviera and Megan Grant

    Edinburgh Under 14

    Edinburgh Primary Schools
Ellen Grant, Meredith MacIntosh, Louise McKenna and Alison Wood

    Phoenix Lift the Scottish Cup
April 4, 2004  --   Phoenix's senior women more than made up for the disappointment of losing out on the league title by a technicality when they overpowered great rivals Midlothian Saints in a tough final at the Meadowbank Arena.

Apart from the opening minutes Polonia where always ahead with the team dominating the boards both on offence and defence.

Although everyone was outstanding special mention must go to pointguard Elise "Lovelle" who withstood tremendous Saints pressure for the whole game yet controlled the offense superbly and contributed an invaluable 11 points.

Veteran Centre Les Jackson was also in great form with 12 points before having to leave the game early in the last quarter with a badly dislocated finger.
Other scorers were Julie Ritchie and Leigh Armstrong on 8 each with Shirley Campbell and Ali Paton both scoring six.

Congratulations to all the players for stepping up their game at the right time to fnally win the match 54-48 and lift the National Trophy for the second time in three years.

This was a fitting end to hard fought yet succesful season and was celebrated well into the night!

In the mens final City of Edinburgh Kings made it a Capital double by coming back strongly to defeat Falkirk Fury.

Giants & Pirates off to winning starts
May 10, 2004  --   The Giants and Pirates both got off to a flying start in the opening rounds of the Phoenix Mini Leagues at Boroughmuir.

Giants finally overcome some tough opposition from the Crew in a game that was tied 33-33 at the half.
Playing the better team basketball in the second half, Giants finally pulled away to win 73-58 led by Rebecca Watson on 24 points and some spirited play from Merry MacIntosh, fresh from her starring role in the triumphant Edinburgh primary school team ending with 18 points plus 16 from point guard Gill Renilson.
Romy Hricova and Rachel Furness replied for the Crew with 24 and 18 respectively supported by Carol Silviera on 12.
(The club extends it's best wishes to Rachael who has been selected to play for Edinburgh under 14's in this weeks Inter Area Championships through in Paisley)

In the the other game Pirates were missing several senior players and only had five to start. Merlins lent them Ciara Barnes which turned out to be disasterous for them as she preceeded to team up with her sister Eilis to lead the Pirates to an awesome 108-25 victory scoring a massive 18 and 40 points respectively.
Merlins had no answer to the Pirates fast breaking basketball and the Barne sisters were well supported Ellen Grant on 21 and Hannah Calder with 12.
Sheona Paxton top scored for Merlins with 12 points

Hopefully Merlins can get back on track in their next game against Crew with Ciara back on their side!!

In the other game the two unbeaten sides Giants and Pirates go head to head with the winners taking top spot in the league.

Remember these games will be played on Monday 24th May with no games on the 17th due to yet an other Public Holiday.

Check out this Saturdays Edinburgh Evening News as reports of all the Mini Leagues will there.

    Pirates lift Mini-League Title
June 29, 2004  --   Pirates finally lifted the Phoenix Mini-League title with an exciting 85-71 win over the Crew.
Crew started off strongly and took a ten point lead at the end of the first quarter but with both coaches Woods and Bremner agreeing to field primary aged girls only in the the 2nd it was a chance for the Pirates to come roaring back into the game.
With Claire Edmonds in great form the Pirates took a fourteen point lead at half time and despite some good basketball from the Crew they could not reduce the deficit in the second half with the points difference still remaining fourteen at the end.

Some excellent team basketball from both teams plus several fine individual performances brought the season to a fitting end.

First up were the Under 16's who comfortably eased passed the East Lothian Peregrines challenge 56-13 before going on to defeat great rivals Kool Kats 49-24.

The Juniors were keen to match the standard set by their "wee sisters" and powered to a comfortable 41-16 victory over last years winners Midlothian.

Full reports and scorers can be found on Game Results

On Saturday the Under 14's had a more mixed day with an opening four point win over their twin team Boroughmuir Phoenix before losing fairly heavily to a strong West Lothian side.

Scottish Juniors v Phoenix - Match Report
February 1, 2005  --   Phoenix lost 45-54 to a strong Scottish Junior side in a fast exciting game at Portobello High School
Both teams had big squads with Phoenix fielding several juniors and cadettes plus a guest appearance from former player Leigh Armstrong who is now living in England and playing in the EBL for Manchester Mystics.

The game started at a furious pace with Polonia taking an early lead before five straight baskets from the powerful Angela Taylor put the Scottish side up 15-7 at the end of the first quarter.

At the start of the second Phoenix had their strongest spell and led by Lynsey Campbell and Ciara Barnes stormed into a 28-25 lead at the half.

Phoenix fielded a very young side for most of the third quarter and although all the girls gave a very good account of themselves the more experienced Juniors edged into a 37-36 lead at the end of the 3rd.

Several of the "veteran" Phoenix players had been involved in a training sesion prior to the game and began to feel the pace allowing the Juniors to extend their lead to 54-45 led by 15pts from Rose Anderson and 13 from Angela Taylor.

Scorers for Phoenix were Julie Ritchie 11, Lynsay Campbell 9, Les Jackson 8, Ciara Barnes 7, Shirley Campbell 6, Ali Paton 2 and Leigh Armstrong.

Special mention to Ciara Barnes who had a great game and must surely have boosted her chances of getting into the national squad and to Sally Watson and Eilis Barnes who made their debut at this level and have both been include in the Scottish Cadette squad

Cadettes & Juniors Win All Games
February 20, 2005  --   Despite both teams missing key players Phoenix Cadettes and Juniors each won both their games in the Lothian Central Venue Youth Leagues this weekend.

The Juniors got back on winning ways with victories over West Lothian Weavers (40-30) and Pentland Star (40-15)to take them back to top spot in the Junior league with an 8-1 record.

The Cadettes remain unbeaten this season with an 8-0 record and had solid wins over East Lothian Peregrines (42-16) and Dunfermline Reign (59-19)

Personal Kit Questionnaire & Club Logo
    Logo Samples
February 25, 2005  --   Following requests from several youth players an online questionnaire has been set up to find out your views on purchasing personal items of kit such as hooded sweatshirts, t-shirts etc.

It would also be a good opportunity to select a club logo and on the attached document there are a few samples or you may wish to design your own.

To access please click on the Kit Questionnaire link on the left hand menu, complete the form and submit to site.

Cadettes March On - Juniors Stutter
March 7, 2005  --   Phoenix Cadettes maintained their unbeaten run this season with convincing wins over Dunfermline Reign and East Lothian Peregrines to remain in pole positon in the Under 16 leagues

The Juniors despite beating Midlothian Sunshine and West Lothian Weavers went down to Kool Kats in a game that might well decide the Junior winners.

There was even greater disapointment amongst many other coaches, players and supporters when it was learned that Kool Kats are to be allowed to replay all the games they defaulted on 20th February.

It would be ironic if other clubs who were unable to reschedule these games were then "defaulted" despite being able to play on the original dates.

Full reports and scorers of all games can be found under Game Results.

    Cadettes Lift the League
April 3, 2005  --   Phoenix Cadettes lifted the Lothain Under 16 League title after defeating main challengers Kool Kats 30-15 today. They also overpowered Dunfermline Reign 107-16 to maintain their unbeaten run this season.

The Junior side also had two good victories against Pentland Star and East Lothian Peregrines to guarantee at least runner up spot in the Under 18 Leagues.

Well done to all the girls for all your efforts and hard work this season.

Full reports of all these games can be found under Game Results

May 9, 2005  --   Many of the girls in the youth programme were involved in the Edinburgh Girls Basketball Festival held at Portobello High School on Saturday 7th May.

Phoenix co-hosted the Festival along with basketballedinburgh and were involved in four games throughout the day.

First up were the Under 14 B team who opened the festival with a game against Kool Kats B.

In the next game the Under 14's A squad took on the visiting Irish team from Killester. This was a tremendous learning experience for the Phoenix youngsters as the Irish team had been together for almost four years and were undeafeated for the last two!
The girls did really well and although well beaten in the end competed well against the tough defending Dubliners.

In the third game the 14 A'S mete old rivals Kool Kats and in a good game went down by around 15 points.

In the afternoon it was the turn of the Cadettes to take the floor against the Scottish Under 14 development squad.
With several last minute call offs due to exam study and illness the team hastily recruited a few Kool Kats Cadettes to fill out the bench and with Junior MVP taking up the player.coach role it was a new look cadette team that took to the court.
This was a fast exciting game with the young Scottish team, who were on average more than two years younger than the Phoenix girls, putting on a spirited display.
In the end the "Phoenix Select" proved to be a little too strong and experienced and pulled away to a 46-31 victory.

In the evening several of the players met up at the Kings Manor Hotel with the Irish, Scottish and Kool Kats players to enjoy a meal and round off an excellent days basketball.

    Congratulations Katie
June 13, 2005  --   The club would like to congratulate Katie Boyd who was a member of the Scottish Under 14 squad that recently travelled to Newcastle for a series of games.

The team won three out of four games only losing to an Under 17 side.

Katie performed well and scored 10 points over the weekend and we hope this is the start of a long international career for her.

    Next Season
June 20, 2005  --   As the season draws to a close the club would be most grateful if all players and coaches could give me some feedback on their plans for next season.

Would everyone involved with the club please complete the simple questionaire on the website even if you do not wish be involved next season.

The club is aware that several players are moving on to university and other challenges and we would like to offer our thanks for their committment over the years and wish them well in the future.

We have also been in discussion with the City of Edinburgh Club about encouraging our talented younger players to play in the National Leagues with them, but still retain links with the club so if you have ambitions to play at a higher level this is a great opportunity.

The club is aware that several of our senior players have recently attended a level 1 coaching course and I would be delighted if any of them wished to become involved in the youth programme.

There are still a few sessions left so please get along so we can have a chat about next season.

    Remaining sessions

Mon 20th and 27th June at Boroughmuir
    6.00 to 7.30pm: Under 14 Mini League
    7.30 to 9.30pm: Seniors Cadettes & Juniors

Thurs 23rd & 30th June at Drummond High

    7.15pm to 9.30pm: Seniors, Juniors & Cadettes

Good Luck and Thanks to Gill
June 24, 2005  --   This Monday 26th June sees the final training session for club stalwart Gillian Renilson.
The Craigmount High student is off to university in Aberdeen and will be sadly missed by all at the club.

Gill has been with Phoenix for three years playing at both cadette and junior levels and has proved to be one of the most committed and enthusiastic players.

You can always rely on 105% effort rom Gill as she proved a great inspiration to all players around her and this season was just piped for the junior leagues MVP by her own team mate Ciara Barnes.

All at the club would like to thank her and wish her well at Uni and hope she continues playing on the college team.

Hope you will come back and see us during the holidays - good luck and best wishes.

Under 14's win two out of three first games
November 6, 2005  --   Phoenix's brand new under 14 side took to the court for the first time today and recorded a tremendous two wins from three games.

Their only loss was in the opening game to a very experienced Kool Kats team who applied a lot of early full court pressure on the young Phoenix girls.
Despite starting with only five players the Polonia girls responded well and fought right to the end in a 22-31 defeat.

This was still a great result and with the arrival of seven fresh players it was a twelve strong bench that faced up to the Edinburgh primary squad in the second game.
In a tough, exciting game the Phoenix 14's recorded their first win 31-24 before going on to defeat East Lothian Peregrines in their final match 33-22.

This was a great days basketball for all the girls taking part with all the games played in a friendly atmosphere.

The team spirit in the Phoenix team was exceptional with some awesome "chanting and singing" coming from the bench.

A big well done to all the players: Naimh Barnes, Erin Barnes, Katie Henderson, Caitlin Robertson, Jenny Boyd, Jenna Howieson, Fiona Jackson, Robyn Bell, Ellen Grant, Meredith MacIntosh, Claire Edmonds and Louise McKenna plus a massive Hi-5 to Coach Viv.

Looking forward to the next games on Saturday 6th December !!!!!!!

Locked out by the Grumpie Janny in Week 4 of Mini Leagues
June 9, 2003  --   Despite Megan gaining permission from Mr French, (the English teacher?) that the hall was OK this week the Janny had other ideas.
With almost 30 girls present and eager to play the "jobsworth" Janny was in no mood to allow the Phoenix all stars access to the Courts to do battle in week 4.
This was a major disapointment to everyone with the Jets eager to end the Crew's unbeaten run and the Lasers thirsting for their first ever victory boosted with the inclusion in their squad of the famous Tutu.

With only two weeks to go in the season there is not enough time to replay these games so we have decided to set up an NBA-Style play off.

After three games Crew head the table with Jets second, Sting third and Lasers fourth.

As in the NBA the first play fourth and the second play third with the winners of each game meeting in a final showdown for the championship.

To confirm, this will be the programme for the next two weeks:

Monday 17th June - Semi Finals
    6.00: Crew v Lasers
    6.45: Jets v Sting

    Monday 24th June - Finals
6.00: 3rd/4th Game (two losers from last week)
6.45: Final (two winners from last week)

Apologies to everyone for this weeks shambles and if anyone has any questions on any of the above raise it on the Forum and I will attempt to answer.

Lets go teams and good luck to you all.............

April 6, 2003  --   Congratulations to Gillian Renilson, Catriona Bissett and Morna Hill who have all been selected to play in the Cadette League All Star game against the League winners Kool Kats at Meadowbank on Sunday 13th April.

The girls have been rewarded for their consistant excellent performances throughout the season and the club wishes them well.

The game will take place prior to the Senior Lothian Cup Finals with a 10.30am tip off.

All players are encourage to attend and cheer the girls on.

Cadettes win three out of four
January 27, 2003  --   The young cadette team put on a tremendous performance at Meadowbank yesterday to win three out of their four games.

Faced with four games back to back, this was always going to be a tough day but with four players calling off with colds and injuries, this reduced the squad to only eight players.

An opening 36-14 win against Pentland Star set up victories against East Lothian Peregrines (32-16) and West Lothian Weavers (57-46) before the leg weary team lost the final game against Kool Kats.

Another brilliant performance by all the players, congratulations to you all and well done.

Total points spread for the day was as follows:

    Morna Hill 56
    Catriona Bissett 44
    Rosie Adams 23
    Gillian Renilson 22
    Carol Silviera 8
    Lynsay Gow 6
    Megan Grant 2

and remember our next games are on Sunday 9th February against Kool Kats (12.00) and Pentland Star (2.00pm)

Cadettes clinch runners up spot in Edinburgh 2002
December 28, 2002  --   Phoenix finished in an impressive second place in the four team Cadette tournament held at Meadowbank today.
With most of the squad meeting each other for the first time only half an hour before the first game
    this was an excellent performance.

In the opening game against Pentland Star the team got off to a great start with some fine fast break action establishing a 20-8 half time lead and with all the bench actively involved in the game ran in comfortable winners 32-20.

The second game against the unbeaten Kool Kats was always going to be the toughest.
With Kool Kats winning their opening game 45-5 the younger Phoenix players started a little nervously but with some spirited defence and some inspirational offence from Morna Hill the team began the second half only 6-10 down.
Midway through the second half the deficit was reduced to only two but the Kool Kats offence stepped up a gear to eventually see off our spirited challenge to win 32-19 despite a buzzer beating three pointer from Morna.

Beaten, a little tired but certainly not dismayed Phoenix entered the final game against East Lothian Peregrines in upbeat mood and tore off into 17-1 half time lead.
Relaxing a little in the second half the team comfortably emerged winners by a 32-13 scoreline which secured second place in the Tournament behind Kool Kats.

This was a tremendously spirited performance with all the girls performing well and it is hoped this group will stay together and compete in the Clydesdale Bank Cadette league over the next few months.

Congratulations girls, have a great New Year and hope to see you all at training on Monday 13th.

Top Scorers in the Tournament were:
    Morna Hill - 47
    Gillian Renilson - 20
    Catriona Bisset - 8
    Alex Gibson - 6
    Carol Silviera - 2

And a special mention to Megan and Ellan Grant in their first ever competitive games - well done girls (and thank your mum for doing the scoring!)
